I hope the verdict brings her some relief but she's the bravest woman I've ever heard of.

I find the idea that there were this many men willing to rape an unconcious woman on one website, within 50km of her home, absolutely terrifying.
What does this tell us about the people we see around us?
Gisele, you are an inspiration - a truly brave woman - and I salute you.

And one was her next door neighbour. It's truly horrifying.

I think a couple of wives/partners were standing by their men...

France is still a deeply Catholic country and divorce isn't really an option if you're RC. I still can't understand why you would stand by your husband when convicted or rape though even if faith was a factor.

Very glad they’ve named those disgusting bastards. Hope they enjoy their time in prison.

I didn't think they had? Their surnames were just initials.

dottydodah · 19/12/2024 10:46

Thank god the husband got 20 years .Nothing can make up to Gisele for this horrific abuse though .Apparently he raped her on the side of the road, on the way back from his Sons house! The other men involved are disgusting and immoral .What worries me as well ,is that in Australia I think there was a similar case but nothing could be proved (The Guardian ) dont have the link . Meaning there could be more men like this out there Horrific

OverdueForAnEyeTest · 19/12/2024 10:49

They were all named during sentencing. The names are available in the live reports.

I hope that somehow they get that piece of shit who is still on the run in Morocco.

LostittoBostik · 19/12/2024 10:50

But some have only got 10 years.

Which makes Gisele's point entirely.

The BBC are reporting her daughter has fallen out with her because they found pics of her drugged on the laptop too and she didn't feel her mum was supporting her enough.

I'm hoping that gets investigated too?!

He's been prosecuted on this but there is not enough evidence to prosecute on assault and he denies it

PandoraSox · 19/12/2024 11:01

Jean-Pierre Marechal is the second man to receive a verdict – he is found guilty of attempted rape and aggravated rape of his wife, as well as drugging her.

The 63-year-old earlier admitted to following Dominique Pelicot’s lead, drugging his own wife for five years, raping her and inviting Dominique to rape her too.

He has since said that was he did to his wife was “atrocious” and admitted: “I was a rapist, but I’m not anymore.”

He got 12 years, his lawyer thinks he could be out in three.

Part of me feels it is a shame France got rid of the guillotine.

JingleB · 19/12/2024 11:03

The sheer gall of these two rapists claiming they “are victims too” beggars belief.

If you read back to the Guilty verdicts on the BBC thread they are named in full.

ChimpanzeeThatMonkeyNews · 19/12/2024 11:08

Pelicot's lawyer was 'jeered at' from the public gallery, for suggesting that he might appeal the verdict.

The almighty brass neck of him.

That man should suffer until his last breath.

I wish nothing but the very best to Mme Pelicot and her family.

Edited

'Not a rapist anymore' It almost makes me want to laugh, in a hollow, hysterical way.

I'd say once a rapist, always a rapist.

DodgyCousins · 19/12/2024 11:12

Does anyone know whether the prosecution can appeal sentences in France? I'm surprised they've been given less than the prosecution asked for in such a high-profile case. Now is the time to send a clear message.

One of them a drug dealer! The bare nerve of these fuckwits.

It’s like a murderer claiming they are no longer a murderer as they aren’t actively going round killing people any more!

Yes, what this says about 'ordinary' men is horrifying.

I've recently been doing some reading about WW2, and the way the Japanese and Russians in particular (though no army was innocent of it) used sex and rape as a reward for soldiers is sickening. Millions of women were raped.

And her next door neighbour “falling into his trap.”

Yeah, mate, that well known trap of “raping your comatose neighbour and filming it”… we’ve all been there, amiright?

Unfortunately this case has convinced me that this type of thing is much more widespread than women could ever believe.

feellikeanalien · 19/12/2024 11:26

The terrifying thing is that if he hadn't filmed it he, and the others, would probably have got away with it.

I just find it incredibly unsettling that, as other pps have said, there are so many men that are prepared to do this and not only to do it but to try to justify themselves.

Aintnobodygottime · 19/12/2024 11:29

Freesiabritney · 19/12/2024 11:25

Unfortunately this case has convinced me that this type of thing is much more widespread than women could ever believe.

There are studies done of men where a high percentage say they’ve raped a woman, but only when they are asked about actions that constitute rape but not actually whether they’ve raped. They don’t recognise themselves as rapists though. It makes unfortunate sense given how many women have been raped and sexually assaulted that far more men that we like to think are committing these offences.

FuckItItsFine · 19/12/2024 11:30

This whole thing just makes me cry. Gisele is just an incredible woman. I could never be so strong. It’s so hard not to hate men on days like today.

Honeycrisp · 19/12/2024 11:31

Isn't that the maximum he could get?

Great verdict anyway. Very pleased for Gisele and her kids, and as always in awe of her bravery.

I doubt that's a major factor. More than half of French marriages end in divorce, higher than in the UK. And for anyone so devout they'd be concerned about this, separation and end to legal partnership is still an option - it's only remarriage that could be problematic.
