Ds was planning to visit his dad at some point over Christmas. Looking at trains last night, they were absolutely extortionate and for two days, inc 10 hour travel time, it wasn’t worth the price.

Ex h has gone mental. Sent me a text last night saying that as I chose to move so far away from him, it’s my responsibility, and I should bring ds to him for contact. I have to drive him or pay the train fare. He’s going to “take advice” on next steps.

Ds is 22 years old. Yes, twenty-two. Not two. A grown man.

Has his own job, didn’t know when his leave would be until last night so couldn’t plan in advance, and to be honest, he’s a grown arse adult who is working Christmas Day anyway and what he does with his free time and his money is no longer any of my business.

I am wondering on what these next steps will be? Solicitor, perhaps? Or maybe he will go for full custody? I mean, ds lives with his girlfriend now, so I presume it’s her he would take to court, not me? Or perhaps their landlord? Who knows!

Oh and I know I’ll get asked why he still has my contact details. It’s because, every so often, he will do something batshit like this and honestly, I find it hilarious. When ds was 18, he said he was going to court for full custody and was contacting solicitors as ds didn’t want to go to uni, so this is nothing new, the man is just a fucking idiot. I tell him to let me know how it goes and then ignore him.

What a lovely thread, despite (or probably because of) your ex being such a twat. So brave of you to call his bluff when he was trying to panic you that he'd lost your DS. I commend you also on preserving their relationship as best you can. Has the girlfriend thought about applying for CMS, now that DS is living with her?

@Mydogisamassivetwat Shows you should never lose your sense of humour. It’s to be found in the darkest of moments. Thanks for cheering me up.

Having read your entire thread, you sound incredibly brave, strong and funny. And a wonderful parent. Saluting you!

Your ex sounds like a loony arsehole, but what age was the DS when you moved away from the ex? If he was still a dependent this is a bit of a dick move tbh. It's attempting to sabotage him having a relationship with his dad, and to my mind is on the same moral level as separated parents trash-talking each other to the children.
I'm sure people will ask "So should women not be able to move away from their exes?" and the answer is, morally, no they shouldn't.

Jesus Christ, no. The best thing I ever did was move my children and I away from my abusive ex husband. The best thing.

amusedbush · 18/12/2024 22:18

What a dick 😂😂

Although this thread just reminded me: my mum let me know recently that she and my dad have updated their wills, so I no longer get custody of my brother if they both die.

Which is a relief because he’s 28 and, frankly, I couldn’t afford to feed him. His wife can keep him 😅

Loloj · 18/12/2024 22:23

Different situation but this reminds me of when my ex threatened to send the police to my sisters wedding. My son was her page boy but the wedding fell on “his weekend” (my ex’s) and he was refusing to swap. He even had his solicitor write me a letter saying that he would not allow my son to attend his aunties wedding as he was not prepared to swap weekends. The solicitor must have thought he was a right knob! In the end I just sent a laughing emoji and said I’d see the police at the wedding. Needless to say no police arrived.

LostittoBostik · 18/12/2024 22:31

"Do you now the maddest thing about this?

We never went to court. Never had a custody arrangement. Ds lived with me and his dad saw him whenever he liked. That was it. No fighting over anything (we didn’t have anything material to fight over), it was all so easy, filled in divorce paperwork, he had an affair, didn’t deny it.

Then he went nuts.

I think it’s all still because I left him and that makes him look bad. It was like 15/16 years ago. Get over it."

@Mydogisamassivetwat It's because you took a decision that affected his life that he couldn't control, and he still can't stand it. What a prick.

Tahlbias · 18/12/2024 22:36

🤣🤦 What a knobhead he is!!

Well unless the child was born an adult i presume when they were born they were a child first? So no not sure what i missed, yes they are an adult now which is why he does not make sense still does not change the fact the op made a choice to be in a relationship and have a child with him

Your post is a textbook example of the First Rule of Misogyny: ex-H has turned into a prick but that's somehow the woman's fault for not possessing a crystal ball at the time of the marriage.

I think I would have replied....was this meant for another ex of yours with a child?....or have you been drinking again?

Helpless99 · 18/12/2024 22:59

This made me laugh out loud.
Your ex is deluded and deranged

SapphireSeptember · 18/12/2024 23:00

@ARichtGoodDram Was it your ex that was bragging to his current girlfriend about playing the system so she gathered up the evidence and sent it to his ex wife and ex girlfriend? Might have been someone else, but it was brilliant!

Itsnotmyjobtoeducatestupid · 18/12/2024 23:02

Message saying you’ll pack his overnight bag and book bag with his new class reader and to save EH the hassle DS will have some snacks

My ex had a shit fit and did exactly the same when ds had a baby with his long term girlfriend

Ds is not his son,he's fuck all to do with ex but ex had tried to make it his business

This is the same ex that left me with his two children, has never paid a penny and left me to abuse a 14 year old girl and he got her pregnant

But no,I'm the disgusting one for 'allowing' my 24 year old son to have a baby in a long term loving relationship

For the record,'his' children are delighted for ds and are a fantastic aunt and uncle to the baby

There are no limits with this type of dickhead

Edited for typo

Edited

He got a 14 year old girl pregnant? 🤢 What happened to him? Poor girl. 😟

Brilliant 😆

My dad told me that he and mum had updated their wills so that when they die I don't have to live with my Auntie H any more. I was disappointed, I love my Auntie H she always spoils me rotten even though I'm 45 and I'm sure DH wouldn't mind...

Relocationlocationetc · 19/12/2024 00:03

Why on earth did you divorce this absolute catch?

Beentheredonethat0 · 19/12/2024 00:03

Miepmiep · 18/12/2024 20:55

@Beentheredonethat0 you’ve just reminded me of my ex who also blamed me that our close friends wouldn’t speak to him any more because they were “embarrassed” that I had left him and couldn’t face him. I pointed out that they were actually my friends and the husband probably didn’t want to speak to him because ex had tried to have an affair with his wife, and she didn’t want to have anything to do with a sex pest 😂

Oh no 😃 what a complete twat! Yes when I think back, my ex co-opted all my friends. Latched on to my contacts and by extension was both invited and attended some of the best social events London had to offer. He did business with some of them! He got clients out of them.
He was delusional to think he could treat me like crap and it not have repercussions for those that cared for me. But I didn’t go round bad mouthing him, he was still the father of my DS. But those who asked were told the truth. I was hardly going to lie to my closest friends. It was up to them whether they wanted to continue seeing him. I didn’t mind one way or the other, besides I had my DS (who was under a year old) to bring up alone, so I was busy.
It’s amazing what these ar*eholes do and expect no f ing consequences to their atrocious behaviour!
I seriously wonder what planet they think they’re on.

Coaster99 · 19/12/2024 00:13

Does he shake his fist and yell at clouds too? Gawd, no wonder he’s your ex, what a dingbat!

JFDIYOLO · 19/12/2024 00:15

What is wrong with them.

It's like they run a predictable and consistent programme.

So many men think women and children are things, not quite human, property to be owned and controlled.

And when the property is taken away from them (including when she leaves) they seem to go batshit. Weirdly detached from reality.

It is funny - but it's awful at the same time.

I agree - Shit My Ex Says would be a brilliant book.
