Children: ‘No Christmas, Please!’ YAY!

So, my teenagers confirmed last night they don’t want to do Christmas! They just want to spend the day with family, relaxing, eating good food, playing with the dog and watching old films - no roast, no presents, no forced interactions with family they don’t like.

Not sure whether to laugh, because honestly just eating nibbles, fruit and salads all day whilst we watch Star Wars and DH loses so badly at scrabble he tosses the tiles across the table again sounds amazing, or to cry tears of joy because they actually agreed on something together (honestly, it’s the first time I can remember them ever agreeing)

Not even anything to really comment on here. I just wanted to post and say how happy I am that we all get a day off and can actually just relax without any pressure! Obviously did not say this to them, just nodded and said ‘oh that sounds lovely’ but I am so pleased!

So this one is a bit rude:

So really, the only difference is that on the day, you're staying in as a family and not having turkey? I'm not sure it's as big a deal as you think it is, but you do you. but it's surrounded by supportive posts saying it sounds like a lovely way to spend Christmas. And lots of people wanting to know what she's doing with the presents she's bought, which is a fair question as it is quite odd to buy your kids presents and then not give them (and it was odd because it wasn't true! People were picking up on that!) It seems very standard for a Mumsnet thread, would have been way harsher in AIBU!

Not that I'm going to comb through the thread forensically to analyse the rudeness, someone already accused me of not having anything better to do with my day so that would really be proving them right. I just don't think the OP got a hard time. She got a few snarky comments and scepticism balanced with support and questions - her story was a bit suspect from the very beginning hence it falling apart so quickly!

Calm the fuck down. It's Mumsnet.

But OP, what you have described that your teenagers do want is Christmas! It’s what it’s all about- a rest and doing what you want to do, in your case being a family together, which sounds absolutely lovely. It’s the sort of Christmas I know and that many people have

Well I know, that's why I was stopping myself from going through any more of the thread, sometimes I go down a rabbit hole!

No one can say if the op is a troll. However judging from her own words - 31 year old mum to a 15 and 16 year olds supposedly adopted from another country, having hosted her mother and mil for Christmas for the last 20 years (since she was 11), on top of darling teens saying they’re happy with a salad and no gifts for the day itself… is it something that you can believe as plausible?

Could her age be a typo? Or sarcastic? I mean why would anyone make up something like this?

It wasnt a typo, she comes twice that she’s the age that other MNners dug up she was. As a side note, MI5/6 has nothing on a Mumsnetter who smells BS.

As for making it up, I’ve seen people make up a lot sillier nonsense on here. If I was to take a gander myself, I think it was an intern journalist looking for a quick copy and paste article to sell. Just got lazy with some key details, over used some MN stereotypes as well, hence why they dropped their account and ran when caught out. Grifter trolls tend to hash it out until they/the thread is deleted.

Well I clearly need more training 😬

I have often thought this myself - experienced, middle aged MNers would make the best spies/interrogation officers surely? I think we hold the key to all the knowledge in the universe!

Perhaps you should enrol on a creative writing course in the new year?
