Children: ‘No Christmas, Please!’ YAY!

PoliticalPossum · 18/12/2024 06:25

So, my teenagers confirmed last night they don’t want to do Christmas! They just want to spend the day with family, relaxing, eating good food, playing with the dog and watching old films - no roast, no presents, no forced interactions with family they don’t like.

Not sure whether to laugh, because honestly just eating nibbles, fruit and salads all day whilst we watch Star Wars and DH loses so badly at scrabble he tosses the tiles across the table again sounds amazing, or to cry tears of joy because they actually agreed on something together (honestly, it’s the first time I can remember them ever agreeing)

Not even anything to really comment on here. I just wanted to post and say how happy I am that we all get a day off and can actually just relax without any pressure! Obviously did not say this to them, just nodded and said ‘oh that sounds lovely’ but I am so pleased!

It looks like OP has gone. 😪

They peak too soon and have no staying power these days, I find.

Maybe gone to visit her 140-year-old grandmother.

Have a🍘

You will need it after all the salad.

what is that ?

Sorry, can you stop cluttering up the thread with facts when I’m trying to generate another plot twist.

I don't know. I think a better plot twist could be that the OP's sister is really her mum but she doesn't know it. Though i can't plot twist and under 10 year old hosting her mother in law. Maybe it's mum (well granny) and mil were friends and when they were in their 60s the future MIL used to spend Christmas at the OPs house with her son (who was around 30). That's how the OP met her future husband. They married when she was 20 and adopted teenagers.

That or the OP is Madonna and is lying about her age.

The elaborate bullshit threads on here will never cease to amaze me. Just why?

UpUpUpU · 18/12/2024 09:13

Even after all the revelations, I still cannot get my head round why somebody would eat salad 5 times a week and then choose it as their Christmas treat food!

I find this more concerning than the rest of the other bullshit.

Come back @PoliticalPossum and explain yourself 😂

MaltipooMama · 18/12/2024 09:14

Jesus some people suck the fun out of everything!!

Well done OP it sounds like you are all going to be having a lovely chilled day, hope you all have a wonderful, stress-free relaxing time 🥂

fedup33 · 18/12/2024 09:16

I loathe games.

CordylineCapybara · 18/12/2024 09:16

Seeing how this thread has progressed while I've been on the school run is wild 😂

OutwiththeOutCrowd · 18/12/2024 09:17

Keeping a story straight and tossing a salad at the same time is difficult.

XiCi · 18/12/2024 09:17

I reckon the only true thing about this thread is that the OP has a sad, loser DH that throws things around the room when he loses a kids board game. Love the sound of the 'wino' mums though. Would happily crack open a bottle of sherry with them 😂

VacuumPacked · 18/12/2024 09:17

teatoast8 · 18/12/2024 08:19

Food wise. That certainly wouldn't fill me up. Can't wait for Christmas Dinner 😋

exactly - it is meant to be a Midwinter Feast/ing, fruit and salad is for the summer

SatansBobbleheadedDashboardOrnament · 18/12/2024 09:17

Take a leaf out of the hubby on that other batshit thread's book and make sure to mush all of that fruit and salad into a delicious Christmas paste.

Tossed salad and scrambled stories Grin

EasyComfortDishes · 18/12/2024 09:20

What would be really epic and chefs kiss is if @PoliticalPossum came back and gave a truthful TED talk on what inspires these kinds of banal trolling, what the troller gets out of it etc. I can understand the dead twins type trolls or the grifters, but I’ve always wondered about this kind of troll. Harmless banal shit that affects no one and is really inane. What’s the reason for it?

DefyingGravity01 · 18/12/2024 09:20

How old were you when you adopted the teenagers op?

Stretchanoctave · 18/12/2024 09:22

Really? I find this hard to believe. Most people have done the majority of their shopping, wrapping and food prep by now. A bit of a goady post if indeed it is genuine. Personally I’m glad my family love Christmas and enter into the spirit of things.

MIL and DM ARE coming. For a week. They always do. Every year and have for 20+ years (both widows)

So you have been hosting DM and MiL since you were 11??

i don’t think she’s even married

84Win · 18/12/2024 09:22

Alwaysyoudoyou · 18/12/2024 08:20

I'm in my 30's with in laws this age. My friends dad just turned 90 and he's 35! It's usual but not totally unheard of.

That’s different. Father’s can continue making babies at any age. For OP’s mother to be in her late 80’s as stated, she would have had to be in her mid 50’s when OP was born.

Very unusual and highly improbable, when considered with the rest of the info provided by OP (in this post and others).

She does have dogs though, according to her history. I'm now wondering if they're actually those dwarf hamsters...

MiddleParking · 18/12/2024 09:23

I’d love one of these people to do a candid AMA. Like, what is your real life like? Why is your attention to detail good enough for the fattoush business but falls down on the age point when there’s literally a function to allow you to name change and not get caught out on that? Do you actually have any links to Sevenoaks and the schools there or is that also completely made up? It’s fascinating. A shame, but fascinating.

WinterBones · 18/12/2024 09:24

don't believe a word of it. No teenager would go 'no presents please' unless they have serious issues.

Even if mine did say it, i'd just nod/smile and make sure they still had them here to open, not gleefully go 'wheeeee, they can stay at my mothers and they can have them whenever' how fucking mean minded and cruel would you have to be to actually follow that through.

Absolute bollocks.

Wonderi · 18/12/2024 09:24

I personally wouldn’t be teaching my kids that they can cancel plans so close to the day.

If you make a commitment, then you stick to it.
You don’t just cancel because you can’t be bothered.

I would also be teaching them that DH’s vile behaviour is completely unacceptable.
I wouldn’t accept that shit from a child, let alone from a grown adult.
If he cannot handle his emotions, then he doesn’t get to play.

Poor kids can’t even play a board game properly worrying their dad is going to lose and then throw a tantrum like a child.

It’s obviously a very dysfunctional family and it breaks my heart that your kids would rather give up their presents and roast dinner, just to have a bit more calmness of Xmas day.

I do what they want and have it very laid back and relaxed but I also include the roast and presents.
Then I see family on Boxing Day.

There can definitely be a compromise here but the main thing is to stop them from having such a shit time on Xmas and the easiest thing that can help with that is that DH doesn’t play a game with them.
