For me, it’s to leave the washing machine slightly ajar when you’ve finished using it. Game changing - never smells now!

That ‘No’ is a complete sentence.
I don’t have to explain myself or make excuses or feel bad about saying it.

Cattery · 17/12/2024 16:39

That you can read articles that are behind a pay wall by clicking on reader.
That estriol cream is a gift from the Gods.
Both of the above have made my life so much easier.
The deep love that people have for their cats. Genuinely swells my heart

Frangywangywoowah · 17/12/2024 16:40

That when you genuinely think you have heard it all - you haven't!

Reader?? please explain. Thanks

Too much - a wealth of stuff I didn’t know - thanks!
That my husband is a great husband - we’ve been married a very long time and I didn’t realise how many bad ones are out there.
Acronyms - so many I didn’t know I didn’t know!
No is a complete sentence - brilliant.
When someone shows you who they are believe them, another good one.
However I really don’t get the ‘dear’ in a variety of relatives - my H or husband (or all the other relatives) is just husband and not dear
husband grrrrrr so twee….. phew! How on earth did that start?

FadedRed · 17/12/2024 16:53

That most posters are rightly enraged about most types of discrimination, unless it’s because of older age. Ageism on this site is increasingly disappointing.

Frith2013 · 17/12/2024 16:53

That good manners are there to make the recipient feel comfortable.

The Islamophobia is alive, well and rampant (on MN) and I've just been sheltered from it.

stayathomer · 17/12/2024 16:57

SirChenjins

it blew my mind!! I am not good at training ddog but have always tried and it’s all ongoing but he does not listen to me at all if he’s ‘in the wild’ - I literally cease to exist!!

Skyrainlight · 17/12/2024 16:59

@Topseyt123 "I've learned that there are people who do not have toilet brushes yet still expect guests to leave the toilet clean by putting their bare hands down it."

This really made me laugh, thanks!! 😂

Oh I don't know, it's just that everyone over the age of 50 is absolutely minted and all pensioners have so much money they are burning it to warm their mahoosive nine bedroom houses.

The MN approach of a mass cull of everyone 50+ and all their houses given over to families with children (none of those child free oiks need more than one bedroom anyway) is the only logical way.

Stickykidney · 17/12/2024 17:02

That I should be washing my legs, not letting the water and soap just go and do it's thing.
Again- agree, extra spin on the washing machine
The fact I have a dehumidifier (meaco, thanks,) and how I'm not the only one obsessed with the humidity.
So much relationship advice gleaned- got me out of a very bad situation with a violent cocklodger and let me believe I wasn't crazy or 'disrespectful'
Lots of fun retro threads on old jobs, 90's music, what schools thought was acceptable 'back in day'
How everyone struggles with the day to day and I'm not alone.
And my fave.... My gateway to Mumsnet.. the woo threads. Smile

Actually I think racism and anti-Islamic sentiment is on the rise here at the moment. There’s a thread about colour-blind casting with some deeply reactionary attitudes on it, and all the threads about cousin marriage are unpleasant and outright eugenicist.

Don't disagree about ageism.

FWIW I agree but I don't think I suggested anywhere that it wasn't did I?

That you can't overestimate the conviction with which people will hold forth with bad advice and worse opinions.

To add to that, the general public is far less intelligent than you probably realise!

And snappy slogans like BeKind and Women Supporting Women sound good but count for nothing.

No, you didn’t. I was just thinking ‘unpleasant forms of discrimination and prejudice I’ve noticed lately on here’. Ageism has always been pretty ingrained as long as I’ve been here, but my sense is that if the threads I’ve been on of late are any indication, some other forms are on the rise.

Yuckyyuckyuckity · 17/12/2024 17:13

That you can take soiled pullups off by ripping them at the sides and removing like a nappy!! Why did I not know or think to do this before!

Oh they absolutely all are. Basically every "ism" you can name is spouted here and gets louder each time. Because people feel safe anonymously behind their keyboards typing all that crap. It's the dark side of the internet.

SalviaDivinorum · 17/12/2024 17:16

BrightonFrock · 17/12/2024 17:16

@Londoneye20 I know what McDonalds, Tesco and a big shop are-but I have never heard of a "jacket".

What?

CagedSilverFrame · 17/12/2024 17:18

That people think it’s weird and stalkerish if someone they’ve been talking to for months, wants to actually meet them in person .

lol

CagedSilverFrame · 17/12/2024 17:23

Something Id like to share, now I have the chance to.

You can re waterproof any washable coat easily in the washing machine with in wash waterproofing liquid. ( not wool, leather or suede obviously)

Instead of using wet wipes, toddler wipes or toilet wipes, use a bottle of scent free baby lotion to help with toilet tissue, for extra cleanliness.

Baby wipes were originally marketed as containing baby lotion, you can use the real stuff very cheaply.

Virtually everyone's kids are neurodivergent.
Apparently.

GameofPhones · 17/12/2024 17:32

How to give a dog a pill! Thankfully used one method with success today (hide in a Dairylea cheese triangle, and/or wrap inside a slice of ham PLUS have ready a second treat to give immediately, distracting DDog's attention. BRILLIANT! and thanks again MNetters.
