We left the house at 3am to take dd to airport. Five minutes later the doorbell was stolen. But the odd thing was, there was no footage of the thief. How???

Just reported to police.

Ffs. Does this mean they were watching us leave the house?! Will they come back to burgle us??

It doesn’t look as if it can be used with a peephole camera.

Neighbour's Ring saw nothing. Boo.

Do you have electric cars? They do this when they want to steal electric cars - The ring doorbell jammer can also come with a device they use to copy the keyfob signal when you unlock your car. They can then send this signal to your car, get in, use it to start the car and drive off. It's rampant in my area, right now - Especially Ford Eco Sport cars. I would park your car in a locked area/directly under new cameras, steering wheel lock, wheel locks etc...anything which will make a noise and prevent theft of your car.

I thought ring had a self protection as it would not allow a camera to be registered if it was stolen!

No, it doesn't. No idea what the thief will do with it.

Call me paranoid but I have an indoor camera watching the doorbell cam....ps I don't think WiFi jammers are particularly strong but if your router is far from the camera I suppose it's possible in which case I'd get a repeater close to the camera.

That isn’t just a problem with electric cars. My last two inexpensive petrol cars had keys that sent a signal.
My electric car doesn’t. I have a card instead.

Why don't crims just stick gaffer tape over it instead?

Can this be used with the ring battery operated doorbell peephole video camera, if so, how is it fitted on the door?

The circled bit slots on to the door and you fix that with a handle that screws to the door to tighten it on. Really good and cannot be stolen**

Edited

No good for the peephole door cameras in the centre of the door, though!

MrsWinslowsSoothingSyrup · 19/12/2024 19:01

Again, gaffer tape can cover any camera lens no matter how well it's fixed to the wall. I really don't see how ring type doorbells are a deterrent against criminals. They are purely so you can see who is at the door, if they want to be seen.

Sometimes, I think that if these systems are too complicated, they become counter-productive.

I think that we should resist systems that are dependent on wifi and the internet. What happens when the wifi goes down? (See also shops and businesses that cannot take payment at all, unless they have working wifi.) If I ever get CCTV, it's going to be wired cameras, and not needing the internet. I also fiercely resist most things that need a subscription - so no Alexa or any of those things for me. I don't want to make myself dependent on a massive corporation.

See also cars with keyless entry: I think this was a massive step in the wrong direction, sold as a convenience. It seems that they can easily be driven away with the right tools, which can allegedly be bought on ebay. When my parents' car keys were stolen in 1990, although the garage picked the door lock with a paper clip, they couldn't cheat the steering lock without completely dismantling it.
