Our Ring doorbell has just been stolen

We left the house at 3am to take dd to airport. Five minutes later the doorbell was stolen. But the odd thing was, there was no footage of the thief. How???

Just reported to police.

Ffs. Does this mean they were watching us leave the house?! Will they come back to burgle us??

I would be concerned about why someone felt the need to steal your ring doorbell. Are they planning on coming back to break in? How useful is a ring doorbell to someone anyway - aren’t they individually hooked up to the owners app? Or can you just connect to any old ring doorbell?

MaggieFS · 17/12/2024 07:01

Are you back home now? It feels like a massive coincidence to happen to be stolen. Hoping it fell off rather than anything worse.

Squeezetheday · 17/12/2024 07:03

They use signal jammers to block the WiFi. One of our neighbours had their car stolen and the thieves jammed the ring doorbell so it didn’t pick up any footage of them.

Nettleteaser101 · 17/12/2024 07:07

Well if they can Jam the wifi, then the ring doorbell turns into just a doorbell.

BellissimoGecko · 17/12/2024 07:10

Nope, no social media about leaving at that time.

If there’s been other action within 10 mins mine doesn’t capture it again in that window. Probably what happened. I believe you can change it in the settings to record everything.

Edited

Nope. It videod us all coming out and in - three videos. Then motion was sensed 5 mins later but no video.

Me too!

Yes, the Ring doorbell is linked to our wifi. Once I have a police report I will report it stolen to Ring, so they will be notified if anyone tries to reuse it.

Assuming it has been stolen (I’m in London - it’s normal for the area I am in) if you replace it you need to have it screwed in to the wall. They still get taken but less often as it makes it harder so more chance they get caught etc. If it has fallen off then you need to ask a. neighbour to rescue it for you , so you can have it reattached (with screws) when you get back.

My ring doorbell has regular gaps of filming. I’ve changed settings but nothing works. I want to replace it but still trying to work out what with…

No. The wire was cut. It was stolen.

Good idea re screw fittings. Have just been reading about that.

Ours had been working fine, no problems with gaps in video.

Happened to my parents Ring. Theirs was stolen to cover a crime committed the police informed them later. Report the theft to Ring and the person who stole it should be unable to use it. Also Ring should replace your doorbell for free. They did my parents.

Yes, I plan to do this. Thanks.

Were your parents burgled?

The thieves weren't necessarily watching your house beforehand, they might have been in your road to scope out something else, eg nicking catalytic converters from cars. Then saw you all leaving your house so took the opportunity.

Overthebow · 17/12/2024 07:28

I wonder if they saw you leave as they happened to be in the area, saw a suitcase and thought you were all going on holiday so took the opportunity to steal the ring doorbell and were planning to come back later.

BleachedJumper · 17/12/2024 07:28

Do you have any neighbours or family locally who can check on your house in the morning?

Id be very concerned about home security right now, you may very well have had a break in.

This is a good point. One I'd be wary about.

Who/what is opposite your house? Perhaps they've stolen it to cover tracks of crime committed in the vicinity?

Use one of these
Door attachment

I mean, they told you it was stolen, so the wires cut is barely crucial info. It’s not OPs fault PP chose not to believe them

Ohhappydagger · 17/12/2024 07:43

Possibly. Someone I know recently had their car stolen and right before that their ring door bell as well as all the ring doorbells of their immediate neighbours had been blacked out. Not sure how they managed to do that.

That would give me the jitters!

Itsalwaysfools · 17/12/2024 07:50

I have my security cameras inside the house pointing externally. Obviously this doesn't act as a ring doorbell but it means they can't be tampered with or stolen.
