Our Ring doorbell has just been stolen

We left the house at 3am to take dd to airport. Five minutes later the doorbell was stolen. But the odd thing was, there was no footage of the thief. How???

Just reported to police.

Ffs. Does this mean they were watching us leave the house?! Will they come back to burgle us??

I thought ring doorbells were wireless?

Yes, wirelessly connect to the Wi-Fi, but they still need a power source - either hard wired or battery.

Why not? The doorbell wire came through a drilled hole in a brick and was attached to the Ring doorbell.

That's terrifying. You all must be careful and protect yourselves!

Vettrianofan · 17/12/2024 08:26

Our Eufy rang twice at 3am last week. No one was at the door.

Sorry you've had a bad experience. Hopefully it shows up.

I dont understand how there was no footage?

My cameras have a few minutes delay on saving the footage, so if their unplugged they dont show the last 3 to 4 minutes of footage

Nope. Wire from the previous doorbell comes through the brickwork and into the back of the ring doorbell. Can still be mounted on a sticky pad.

I have my security cameras inside the house pointing externally. Obviously this doesn't act as a ring doorbell but it means they can't be tampered with or stolen.

me too.

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 17/12/2024 08:33

I'm not an expert but sticky pads surely aren't enough to keep it secure and how come you have a wire that was able to be cut?

Ours is screwed on and we have chimes indoors.

Interestingly nine times out of ten our milkman avoids detection I'd love to k no enjoy he does it (not suggesting he's up to anything dodgy! I like to check to see what time the milk was delivered and if any buggers have nicked it).

Many are. Mine is.

You can put in a screw underneath to secure it more, but it (the screw) is sooo tiny it is impossible to handle.

WorriedRelative · 17/12/2024 08:39

Isn't it alarmed? I have a tapo doorbell and that has an anti-theft alarm. It can only be turned off in the app.

BellissimoGecko · 17/12/2024 08:41

@OneQuaintLemonHare, an electrician installed ours. Looks like he should have used screws. I'll check with him.

Clearly, no.

She didn't know people were going to doubt it was stolen. Probably thought people would believe her

Your milkman shouldn't be able to avoid being detected by your bell - is your bell faulty?

Wire - from old doorbell, for power.

Sticky pad has been fine to keep doorbell attached - until now.

Get a motion detecting security camera instead and mount it high up above reach.

We have one which records to an SD card as well as to the cloud so if a WiFi jammer was used it would still record.

What is your point that you’re so desperately trying to make? Except for trying to make the OP look even half as foolish as yourself which you’re failing at. She sent her neighbours a message in the morning, so? She used an adhesive pad with her wired doorbell mount because she chose to, so? Just because the instructions say one thing, you can still choose to modify the way you install things if it suits. Instructions are a guide, they’re not legally binding. 🙄 Stop sniping at the OP for no reason than to be a nuisance because it’s not providing help and just derailing the thread. Get a grip for goodness sake.
