Our Ring doorbell has just been stolen

We left the house at 3am to take dd to airport. Five minutes later the doorbell was stolen. But the odd thing was, there was no footage of the thief. How???

Just reported to police.

Ffs. Does this mean they were watching us leave the house?! Will they come back to burgle us??

Yeah but either way the OP already said that the pad was used instead of the screws and she had already read up on it. Lots of people have actually bothered to give her sound advice and yet you’re still trying to push the point to no end. It makes no odds now and doesn’t help with the situation at hand. You just keep arguing for the sake of it and making digs for various different reasons unnecessarily. Just give it a rest.

What's the dialogue here as I only see one part, the other is deleted...its not making much sense!

The deleted poster was complaining that it was a drip feed by the OP that she mentioned later that the electrical wire had been cut.

Others replied to this person along the lines of, well she only added that because you wouldn't believe her when she said it had been stolen.

Gosh, this is all a bit odd. I didn't think the posts were bad enough to be deleted - maybe that poster was a troll or PBP?

From what I've seen, usually when they go scorched earth and delete everything a poster has written it's because they're a PBP with form for misbehaving.

I don’t think this is that uncommon - we have Blink . One morning my DH noticed there was muddy finger prints on one of ours - no footage though !

Isn’t more likely that they’ve removed the camera and will be back another time for the house assuming you’ve gone on holiday ?

I didn't know this was a thing ffs! Wtaf is wrong with people, we have a ring doorbell and I felt better having it being here on my own.

Me too😲

I still feel better with the blink ( actually DH feels better knowing it’s there when he’s away - I don’t even really think about it !)

If you can think of anything else, I'm all ears! I don't want that to be the answer either, but what else could it be?

The Amazon version of Ring - we have the old version without a paid subscription .

JaneandtheLaundry · 17/12/2024 15:49

Back when I was at uni, I was smoking out of a window at 3am (different times) and saw a bloke walking down the road trying all the door handles of every car parked on the road, presumably looking for any open ones to steal. I wonder if someone was out doing that and thought your camera might have picked them up so decided to get rid of it.

BellissimoGecko · 17/12/2024 16:21

Neighbour's Ring saw nothing. Boo.

Many years ago (1990s), a Geordie friend said there was a craze in Toon Town for scrotes nicking car alarms.

A decent security system should squeal if it loses it's WiFi.

Maybe there is only one person in my rural village with a "decent" security system. The bloody thing squeals very loudly EVERY time we have a power cut.

I'm kidding as it is obviously a backup battery issue. However, as interesting as your idea is, having my 5 Ring cameras including doorbells and floodlights squeal when these power cuts cause the WiFi to go out would be extremely irritating. Especially as it's usually in the early hours.

Also, without WiFi, how can you reset them to stop the squealing?

WorriedRelative · 17/12/2024 18:11

BellissimoGecko · 17/12/2024 08:42

Clearly, no.

If there is no alarm feature on Ring cameras replace it with something else.

If mine is unmounted without turning the alarm off in the app it screams bloody murder.

Ring is Amazon.

I can understand how a battery one would be nicked as they are easy enough to just grab, but if I was up to no good I would be inclined to just cut the wire and leave the doorbell, it would be ages until it was noticed.

User820825 · 17/12/2024 19:07

Ring is Amazon

So is Blink.

Amazon bought Ring but they owned Blink first. They only bought Ring about five years ago.

A decent security system would have a procedure in place (including humans to do the grunt work) for loss of signal 😀

As with everything in life, there is a balance between what you want, what you need, what you can have and what you can afford.

Incidentally, many alarms are designed to go off (using their battery backup) when the power is cut. If you are lucky enough to live in the arse end of nowhere (or indeed in a city centre) then the first sign of a possible intrusion is the power being cut. Same way scrotes would cut the phone lines in landline days of yore.

Round here when we have a power cut (which people really need to get used to again) it sounds like a day out at the alarm fanciers festival.

And thieves love an alarm going off on battery backup for hours (although there were laws about that in the past) as it's a clear indication that those homeowners aren't home.

OhcantthInkofaname · 18/12/2024 19:00

I thought ring had a self protection as it would not allow a camera to be registered if it was stolen!

Matsukaze · 18/12/2024 19:18

A sign of the times when Ring door bells are stolen 😞

Use one of these
Door attachment

Edited

Can this be used with the ring battery operated doorbell peephole video camera, if so, how is it fitted on the door?
