What's the craziest behaviour you've witnessed at a Christmas work do?

ChristmasDoDo · 11/12/2024 01:19

Years ago there were a couple of (female) Head of Departments that were frenemies. They actually worked really well together but there was an undercurrent of rivalry there. That year at the Christmas do they were friendly enough to start off with but a couple of bottles of vino later the gloves came off - one of them accused the other of giving a member of her team a BJ in her office, she totally kicked off and the pair of them ended up on the dance floor rolling around trying to pull each other's hair out. It was completely nuts. One of them later resigned and HR released a policy of how to behave when on work socials. That was the last year the company held a Christmas party.

Either the dude who was so drunk he pissed in the corner of the bar (and was swiftly removed from the premises) or the time when the boss snogged someone on the dance floor. His fiance wasn't there (she also worked with us). I couldn't even look at him after that. They've been married a have a couple of kids now for the last ten or so years so I guess she never found out.

At the previous school where I worked, member of SLT stuck his face in much younger, junior member of staff's cleavage and motorboated her. Didn't get fired, just made a grovelling apology during a meeting with the Head.
Same school: Head of a department grabbed the microphone off the lead singer of the band and started singing, badly. Same woman went behind the bar and started serving herself drinks - she was kicked out and barred. She ended her evening by running away from a taxi driver, refusing to pay.

What is SLT?

Senior Leadership Team, l think
A bit like a BLT, but without the bacon

And not nearly as tasty.

@PandorasJam Senior Leadership Team. At one point, it was Senior Management Team, but I suppose that some education bod decided that "Leadership" sounded more dynamic.

Sat in a meeting earlier this week having to listen to the boss give a warning about being well behaved at the party when last year he threw up over the table and got thrown out.

🤣

How old are these stories? I can't imagine things like that happening these days. My work has a no alcohol policy and has had for years. Xmas do is always a tame lunch somewhere.

I've literally just got into bed after a work do tonight (last night).

Health industry
Free booze a plenty.

I'm one of the earlier retired. A lot of folk still drinking.

Thanks. I looked it up and just got Sri Lanka Telecom.

Aww, my ex colleague did the same! Tbf we did work in a plant related job. Romance in the air! Or should that be in the stomata 🤔

@TomPinch this is from the mid 2010s. The same workplace served free alcohol until covid.

The free alcohol was provided by the rather large lost & confiscated property cupboard. Vast majority of staff in their 20s. It often got messy.

On the upside, lots of friendships, plenty of romance, at least 3 babies born from couples who met in few years I worked there.

OH worked in a factory a well known drinks company in the 1970s and at their Christmas do everyone got rat arsed. it turned in to a total sexfest married or not everyone was shagging everyone else few red faces next day

ChristineKo · 14/12/2024 18:13

A friend of mine had waaaay too much to drink at her company Christmas party. They had a staff photographer taking photos of people at the party. She lifted her top and flashed her chest and he took a photo. That photo was on the cover of the company newsletter for January. 😬😬😬

OneCanWonder · 14/12/2024 18:46

My (married) Team Leader snogging the face of a lad in another team. They were MIA all weekend apparently and her poor husband was frantically wondering where she was.

Hurryuphumphreygeorgeiswaiting · 14/12/2024 18:48

Boss asked his girlfriend to marry him and she said No. It was awful.
Another party a work colleague got drunk on the free alcohol and started to try and fight a colleague. She was always so lovely at work but apparently she gets violent on gin.

I haven’t done a big all expenses paid Christmas party in years now, but a few years back you could always tell how the venue was being paid. If your drink was snatched away by waiting staff the second you looked away, they were billing the company per drink. If you got enough vodka or whatever spirit to floor an elephant in your drink, they were billing according to how much was used overall.

Isn't that the same thing?!

I had started work at a new place a few weeks befoe xmas and was enjoying my new job as I got to spend most of my day alone in my office just getting on with things. There was some angst from the shop floor as it was assumed that I was avoiding those staff. I was asked to join them in the morning when they all came in early to have a cup of tea and a gossip. There was a dozen of them, all female. There was a lively chat going on when one of the stood up and told us all that she had drank five pints of pils (pilsner beer) the previous night. She then grabbed the back of the head of the woman sat next to her and shoved this woman's nose into her butt crack, then farted. My first thought was if they are like this on a working day, what the hell are they going to be like at the xmas function.

Later in the week I learnt that the function was at a really posh country house hotel. They turned out to be fairly well behaved there. Just throwing things about the dining room. It started with nuts, then fruit, then table ornaments, plates, and finally chairs. I was absolutely horrified.

We went back to the workplace after that where booze had been laid on. It went downhill from there with one of the staff rolling up a double page spread of newspaper into a cone shape, pushing the pointy end into her butt hole, lighting the other end and dancing around us with her knicks and jeans around her ankles until her butt cheeks started to get singed. She was screeching, so one of the staff set off a fire extinguisher as no-one wanted to go too close. I made my excuses and left. I didn't go to any further functions.

Two other xmas party incidents come to mind, although I was at neither.

Friends of mine found someone in a barely lit alley, late teens/early twenties laid on her side with her thong around her ankles. They managed to rouse her from a druken stupor. Apparently she had pulled down her thong down and squatted back against the wall for her pee, but must have passed out mid-stream and fallen sideways, out for the count. When she came around she was put in a taxi and sent home.

My partner phoned me in the early hours of New Years' Day one year to say that they had heard their front door open and then what sounded like a body crumpling against the shoe rack just inside the door. A drunken girl (15) was out of it completely, legs poking out of the open doorway, wearing clothing not suited to winter, face down on the floor. Eventually managed to get some sense out of her and rang her parents to collect her. My partner had no idea who this girl was and had never met the parents before. Apparently they looked more ashamed than their daughter.

There was a truly dreadful case some years back where a young woman died of hypothermia after being left to make her way home on her own. She was found in field near Perth, as I recall.

Yes, have found the article.

About 18 years ago, a female manager who no one liked got extremely drunk and was stuck in the women’s toilets. No one was looking after her and she was spewing her heart out while also erupting from the other end on the floor. I cleaned her up with copious quantities of toilet paper and water as most people were laughing at her. I also got her changed and gave her my work clothes that I had changed out of. I helped her to a taxi and helped her to my home and let her sleep in my spare room as I did not want her to choke on her own vomit and die. She shat in my spare bed and spewed all over the floor. She was totally incoherent. The next morning I lent her another change of clothes, paracetamols and lots of water and paid for a taxi home for her. Then spent the whole day cleaning the room and had to throw out the mattress and replace it for a family friend who was coming over for Christmas.

The woman never said thank you after that date (although she was extremely apologetic on the day), offered to pay for the taxi or the ruined clothes. she never gave my second pair of clothes back. She remained a real bitch at work and even made me redundant a few years later.
