The midnight cuppa

Themidnightcuppa · 09/12/2024 00:45

Went to bed at 9.30pm and woke at midnight, just me here tonight so I can do as I please so it’s tea and toast and a scroll.

this is becoming a bit of a habit waking up for a cuppa, a scroll, and then going back to bed, am I the only one?

Oh, I love red admirals!

Themidnightcuppa · 14/05/2025 02:09

Darn it, wide awake, cleaned the kitchen while waiting for the kettle to boil and spied quiche in the fridge. So I’ve just demolished the quiche.

met a few hobby friends tonight and tried something different and it’s invading my brain, almost tempted to go downstairs and carry on.

Well, at least it was productive!

Glad you were able to meet up with your friends.

Themidnightcuppa · 20/05/2025 00:45

I’ve just got my cuppa, too much twirling round in my head to sleep. Been watching the great house revival, jolly interesting but not sleep inducing so I’ll repeat Lucy Worsley.
dave and I made it almost across the whole field. Can’t wait when next week we can venture into field two, you can’t see it because of having to walk through a wooded area. Wondering what horses will still be in the neighbouring fields, there’s a cute pony who always greets us and walks along the fence beside us.

OP posts:
Themidnightcuppa · 27/05/2025 01:23

We made it into field 2, only a couple of metres but it was good to see what lies ahead im the next few weeks and beyond. I couldn’t see the horses but they were probably beyond the bend with the trees.

I did go to bed at 11pm, but got up two minutes later having had a eureka moment about a financial figure I’ve been battling with. Turns out it was the right answer so I’ve just spent two hours kicking figures around a spreadsheet so I can sound like I know what I’m on about in tomorrow’s meeting (which I’m going to be jolly tired for ).

OP posts:
WearyAuldWumman · 27/05/2025 01:27

Hurrah for eureka moments! Yes, I usually get mine when I'm in bed.

I've had a hot cup of oatmilk, so I'm heading to bed now. Have an online lesson in the morning - 11 am - and I'm hoping to get to the gym after that. (Both reasons to make me get out of bed and I'm finding the gym beneficial in its own right.)

Best wishes for the meeting.

Hello fellow midnighters, currently listening to the gentle snores of my little one from my very uncomfortable parent bed on our local paeds ward. It'll be obs time in about 15 minutes and I would kill for tea and toast

TheRoundTable1983 · 27/05/2025 02:13

I’ve just got up as I’m unable to sleep, so have settled on the sofa with heating on, blanket, cat 1 of 2 (think the other is upstairs) and a cup of tea. Listening to the rain outside. All this talk of toast has made me want to pop a couple of slices in now! I don’t know about anyone else, but there’s something calming about this ungodly hour. I kind of have a more apparent appreciation for life and all its good parts whilst the world is quiet and I can reflect on them without the distraction of the day…

Themidnightcuppa · 28/05/2025 22:09

@Seawolves I hope your little one is ok. Must be a worrying time.

I seem to be awake at 5am or just after recently. The sparrow chirping annoyingly loud stop me getting back to sleep. A 3pm nap helps and me and the dog snore happily together before stepping out for a breath of fresh air at 4pm.

it’s bizarre because at midnight I’m down those stairs, bread in the toaster, kettle on without a thought. 5am I can’t be bothered and am not interested in anything other than getting back to sleep.

Themidnightcuppa · 04/06/2025 04:26

Haven’t been asleep yet. Going to be a tough day. Just had a bacon sandwich and annoyed I hadn’t realised I was out of eggs. Spent most of the night puzzling over something which DH would have told me in five mins flat. Been on it since noon but having found some photos and been a right Miss Marple I think I know where problem starts. Hoping the plumber agrees and we don’t make to much a mess. (Dave got the bacon rind but is the most confused as I’ve just sent him back to bed.). The blackbirds are singing loudly, hopefully I’ll get four hours Kip.

OP posts:
Themidnightcuppa · 04/06/2025 20:02

And Miss Marple strikes again, I was right, plumbing disaster averted. Can’t keep my eyes open, think I’ll be off to bed soon.

Dave and I made it the furthest we’ve ever been today as we’d had a bit of a setback as I’d gone away for a few days and he didn’t get his full on physio regime I had him on, mind you it was early, before 7am, yawn, thus had a nap this afternoon and now am not tired. Just been pottering in my bedroom, it rubbish rubbish tomorrow so I’ve hunted proper rubbish and filled the bin.

will be glad of some cooler weather so I can sit and enjoy a waking cuppa instead of awake and out the door to beat the heat.

the two medieval sleeps popped up on my fb today but I forgot to click on it.

Hope all babies and everyone is sleeping ok in this heat, im awaiting another grandchild who is now late.

New grandbaby sounds wonderful. It's cooler here tonight (this morning really), had to get up and go and close the window earlier as the wind was making the bedroom door rattle. I can hear the toaster calling my name now and there is only so long I can ignore it! I hope you managed to grab some decent sleep

SnoopySantaPaws · 23/06/2025 04:48

I found you again! Thanks to @Seawolves posting!

I was very sorry to read about your DH dying 🥲🌷

I have enjoyed reading about the things you've been up to & Dave!

I had a stroke in January, so it's been 'a bit of a year'. Being diabetic I can't join in on the tea & toast etc sadly as once upon a time I loved to. My sleep has always been an issue, but it's inconsistent. Tonight I went to sleep eventually (midnight ish) but woke at 2.30 & stayed awake 🙄🙄. I'm exhausted though, so should try to get a couple of hours sleep.

xx

Themidnightcuppa · 24/06/2025 23:52

Thank you @SnoopySantaPaws

ive had a great day today as Dave and I had a day out together visiting a friend. Dave managed to get in the car ok and was so excited when we arrived to see his doggy mate Billy.

there maybe a new grand baby tomorrow or it might be braxton hicks.

tea and bed are calling. Hope you all sleep well.

Very exciting about the new grand baby!
We got back from holiday on Monday and my now 10 month old who slept perfectly on holiday and was an angel all week has decided now we are home to have multiple wake ups in the night 😭😭
Shes lay on me while I try to get her back to sleep. Shes farting away so that must have been what woke her… similar to Dave I guess 😂

Themidnightcuppa · 26/06/2025 23:46

Decided to have tea and toast at 11.30pm in the hope I might sleep all night as need to be up early as Dave is having gentle dog agility training tomorrow to hopefully strengthen his legs. (Im going to have to run alongside apparently 😳)
wish me luck, im going to be knackered, 11 seconds is my limit when I tried couch to 5k 😂. Still no baby xx

Seawolves · 27/06/2025 17:57

Love that your dog is called Dave, it's a great name! Fingers crossed for baby news very soon, especially with the heat we have coming.

Themidnightcuppa · 29/06/2025 23:50

I was up and out across the field with Dave before 6am, and then we got home and aired the house and had it all shut up by 7am. Fortunately it remained cool all day. We are supposed to be doing lots of little exercises so I’ve set up an obstacle course so every time we want to go to the anywhere we have to trot over stuff.

dave is lightly snoring, his farting is nil since I started giving him yogurt, even though he has a whole cauliflower over the week, mulling tea and toast now or to see how I get on, I’ve moved on from Lucy Worsley at bedtime and am now on house renovations in Ireland as the guy has a nice hypnotic voice (haven’t managed a complete programme at all, I watch them in the afternoon and try not to fall asleep).

OP posts:
Themidnightcuppa · 02/07/2025 00:23

Apparently, it’s going to rain in one minute. I am counting down the seconds to the rain appearing.

Dave and I spent the whole day in the lounge in 25° heat, outside it was about 32° I believe. At one point we both lay on the tiles in the hall to cool ourselves down, most uncomfortable and not something I recommend.

No walkies today, I did however try to get Dave in the paddling pool with about an inch of water in the bottom. He wasn’t keen but when I chucked in few chunks of cauliflower, he was in there like a shot.

I had tea and crumpets at midnight, mainly down to the fact that I had my dinner at 4 o’clock this afternoon as I was very hungry. The heat has played havoc with my appetite. Dave however has spent a lot of the day trying to convince me that the new cauliflower in the fridge is all his.

yey, rain, big fat dollopy drops of it.

Seawolves · 02/07/2025 01:15

Holding out for rain, here's hoping for a break from the heat!

Fife has a flood warning!

Can a wide awake newbie join this lovely gentle thread, please?
I'm definitely a medieval two sleeper; woke just before midnight and will probably nod off in the next hour. Newly retired, so it's still a novelty not to worry about having to get up in the morning😀
