The midnight cuppa

Themidnightcuppa · 09/12/2024 00:45

Went to bed at 9.30pm and woke at midnight, just me here tonight so I can do as I please so it’s tea and toast and a scroll.

this is becoming a bit of a habit waking up for a cuppa, a scroll, and then going back to bed, am I the only one?

Dave is on the mend and ultra stinky, I can only assume it’s his meds.
Got him a huuuuge cushion buster collar which he adores and happily pushes his head into,

I am pooped but I did mow the lawn on Sunday thinking it was green bin on Monday and got that wrong which was annoying as I could have easily used the time for a nap.

I’ve finally found im getting to end of huge job with help of DC and hoping I’ll be able to rest a bit now and perhaps the list of jobs will diminish somewhat.

ive run out of Lucy worsley so am contemplating the Pompeii programs next.

Sleep well everyone

Why is it the mornings you need to be up and out for 07.45am you can’t go to sleep.
should have had a cuppa at midnight and broke out the TV then.
Brains is a whirrrrrrr for some annoying reason, written down everything faithfully as it’s popped into my head and then there’s more.
Dave on the other hand can be heard snoring loudly from downstairs which I'm sure doesn’t help me.

I'm quite confused how this thread started in 2024 and is still going. Have you slept OP? 😂

CalicoPusscat · 09/04/2025 01:32

@Themidnightcuppa it goes like that. I haven't been very good for the past month with suicide and mother's death. I thought I had managed to split up with ex but obviously not. He is very sweet.

Just lots of liquids and try to eat something and reach out to people. It's a difficult time

Glad for hear Dave is getting better and that you are getting through some jobs at home! Frustratingly completing the jobs should help you sleep but obviously not!
Take the naps when you can get them!
Baby still not sleeping well…. Adjusting to a life of broken sleep 😴

Alwaystired2023 · 11/04/2025 03:19

What a lovely calming thread. I'm awake with baby, older child is awake too I saw the light when I came to baby, I will get him when I leave here and we will sleep in bed together for the rest of the night. I'm used to being tired now and don't mind being up in the night

Rowgtfc72 · 11/04/2025 03:25

This just popped up on active and I've just read the whole thing. What a lovely thread.
I woke at 1:59am and got up. My work alarms not due for another 20 mins.
Currently scrolling mumsnet in the front room and trying not to wake sleeping sausage dog!

Always28 · 11/04/2025 03:36

I’m just feeding my 6 week old baby and found this lovely thread! I mean I’m a bit late as it’s way past midnight but hopefully this still counts. I’m learning to love my middle of the night wakings.

CatCaretaker · 11/04/2025 04:28

Everyone up feeding babies this morning. Same here, feeding my now 14 week old! Tired is the new normal.

What job gets you up that early? 😨😨😨

Themidnightcuppa · 11/04/2025 08:21

So very glad you all found each other and had a comforting read. That really was my intention.

If I’d known when I started this post how life will be now I’m not sure I would’ve done it, but I find it comforting to read back through occasionally

Today is Dave’s first day of being allowed out the front door

He’s very excited, and I’m feeling a little daunted by it. Today we will be allowed 2 1/2 minutes down the road and back again, but we will be able to do it three times during the day. I’m hoping we get to meet some of the neighbours as it’s been a lonely few weeks.

In about 12 weeks time, we should be able to go on our normal walk which I think will then make life return to normal thank goodness or as a normal as life can be in the circumstances

I do this all the time, but then I’m fairly ancient. Tea (decaf) and a snack at midnight, or 2 or 3 am. It’s many years since I slept through the night. Partly it’s needing the loo, too, but I often spend long periods reading my Kindle, too.
Luckily I rarely need to be up at any particular time in the morning.

Rowgtfc72 · 11/04/2025 16:22

@Mh0509 I work 6am- 2pm but need a good hour to have a leisurely cuppa and watch the news before leaving at 5am to bike 4 and a half miles to work. So I set my alarm for 3.40.
This morning was just a ridiculously early start.

Themidnightcuppa · 01/05/2025 00:00

I know it’s not midnight but it’s not long to it now. Will be making a cuppa shortly and heading upstairs. Had an awful day so can’t see sleep coming anytime soon. Reeling in technical paperwork mess that DH obviously didn’t understand and now having to sort it out without being able to ask him WTF it’s all about.

on a positive note I might have just cracked a bit of its puzzle just now but until I can ring someone tomorrow I won’t know if I’ve sorted it.

i think toast might be in order too! I’ll make a slice for Dave too as he’ll only drool at my feet. He’s allowed ten minutes walk now so we can five minutes from the front door.

I'm still up.

Have just had a significant birthday. I've had birthday wishes from a few folk on social media, but - by Gum - it hurts having another birthday without DH.

No siblings - only cousins. A younger cousin realised that it's a big birthday, courtesy of FB, I think, and has sent me flowers. Got flowers and a card from SIL and another from BIL.

Got a haircut, had a wander around a bookshop and spent a gift card from BIL and SIL from the Christmas before last. Went to the restaurant that DH and i used for birthday meals and had a good dinner.

I think I might have a bag of those mini Easter eggs hidden away...Hmm. They should go well with a hot milk.

happy birthday @WearyAuldWumman

chocolate and a hot drink are my total favourite, especially for a breakfast treat, although I try and limit it to Christmas and Easter.

I’m pleased you had a good dinner and a wander but know how hard it probably was. This morning I knocked some papers over and an old anniversary card slid out and reminded me I have all my cards from DH, birthdays and valentines and anniversaries, sort of stuffed in a void under a drawer in my bedroom and although I was almost late going out I felt compelled to drag them out and of course upset myself. Been slowly trying to organise myself better but it’s hard, although yesterday I did manage to find something of DH’s that was precious and I hadn’t managed to find, stupid really, it was where it always was but the box was a different colour than I remembered. Moral of the story, always open the box.

Dave and I had toast, and my tea is cold and I should really try get some sleep, another day of legal stuff tomorrow

Sleep well, @Themidnightcuppa .

Themidnightcuppa · 03/05/2025 03:06

Arghhhh. Number crunching all day but can’t stop thinking about things so got up and crunched some more. Desperate for a cuppa and toast but am going out on hobby day tomorrow (actually today now) and need to get some sleep asap.

WearyAuldWumman · 03/05/2025 12:04

Hope you got some sleep @Themidnightcuppa . I made the mistake of taking a sleeping tablet. Set alarm for 7 hours sleep, but slept for closer to 10.

Themidnightcuppa · 04/05/2025 08:08

I slept well last night after the night before number crunching session. Struggled a bit yesterday but the excitement of meeting an embroider at my hobby group whose work I’d long admired lifted my day. Having a lesson from this talented lady and learning the tricks of her design process was a great experience.

looking forward to a leisurely Sunday as Monday im helping at our village fun day and I think it’s going to full on.

Not the midnight cuppa but feels like it as been up with Dave since 4.45am. He had a general anaesthetic yesterday for a checkup xray, think he’s just feeling anxious and needs me nearby as although he was whinging he didn’t get up out of his bed until I’d been laid on the sofa for twenty minutes.

Finally feel he’s on the mend, and looking forward to stepping out further afield. It will be good to get back to our usual walk, I’ve realised I missed the beginnings of spring and the bluebells in the wild wood plus all the wildlife, all of which would normally feed into my creativity and feed my soul.

WearyAuldWumman · 08/05/2025 12:05

Glad that he's on the mend.

I'm guessing that you'll be sleeping right now. Hope you get a chance to go out into the sunshine later.

Themidnightcuppa · 14/05/2025 00:11

@WearyAuldWumman we’ve made it to the fields, but can only go in about ten metres in as he’s on a time limited walkies, he’s a bit miffed, but next week we should be up to a longer walkies and should be able to get to the end of the first field. The weather has been glorious, it’s warmth has been lovely to walk in.

it was lovely to see the grass and wild flowers growing, I saw a red admiral butterfly and I could hear the buzzards but didn’t manage to spot them so they were probably further along beyond the trees and into the next fields.
