The midnight cuppa

Themidnightcuppa · 09/12/2024 00:45

Went to bed at 9.30pm and woke at midnight, just me here tonight so I can do as I please so it’s tea and toast and a scroll.

this is becoming a bit of a habit waking up for a cuppa, a scroll, and then going back to bed, am I the only one?

@SnowFrogJelly strangely it doesn’t. I’ve been doing it for years. I find it comforting and it works for me

Do you have ADHD? Interestingly caffeine can have a soporific/calming effect on ND people. My DS2 finds strong coffee chills him out rather than acting as a stimulant.

Sorry OP but I've just come across your thread and I've been reading your previous posts and all I can say is your posts are so heartwarming. I'm sorry to hear of your husband's passing ❤️

My husband is starting a new job which involves night shifts. No doubt I'll be awake for midnight cuppas as I struggle to sleep when he's not here.

No, I’m just plain old me that loves a cup of tea (at all times day or night).

Darn it, on my second cuppa. Cannot get off tonight.

a friend came today and sat on DH’s sofa, Dave jumps on the sofa, knowing full well he’s not allowed, spins himself upside down with tummy in the air and lobs his head in to friends lap with an air of tickle my tummy grin on his face.

needless to say we laughed and he spent an hour in obvious bliss. I sat there later and he completely ignored me.

right off to load another Lucy Worsley!

I'm on the chamomile tea now. Heading to bed after this.

Themidnightcuppa · 02/02/2026 02:41

Darn it, cant sleep, Dave has a swollen joint, on blooming meds again, for a different leg, just realised it’s a year since his accident having read back posts from a year ago.

I tried the treadmill today and was gratified to find a brisk twenty minute walk whilst watching Antiques Roadshow wasn’t too punishing but then had Nutella on toast for tea as I couldn’t be bothered too cook (mainly because I’d been out today visiting a local stately home and there’s a rather scrumptious fried chicken shop almost next door).

Might try the Traitors Ireland, the host isn’t quite to my liking, im sure I’ll nod off quickly.

The twenty minute walk sounds good. The fried chicken sounds even better!

Sorry to hear that Dave is poorly again.

I meant to be in bed, but en route discovered that I'd knocked a bottle of plug clearer stuff on the kitchen floor. I've cleaned it up, but don't know how long it's been like that - I've done it today at some point whilst in the middle of batch cooking.

Have liberally coated the area in lemon juice to neutralise the caustic soda. I'll try to lighten the stain with oxalic acid solution at some point.

Shall head to bed shortly.

Oh no. Hope it cleans up ok.

just finishing my cuppa, Dave’s just arrived in my bedroom and flumped himself on a bed of his I now keep up here. I need to get to sleep before he starts snoring.

Sleep well. :)

Mumtobabyhavoc · 02/02/2026 07:42

Awww 💐 for poor Dave. 🩷

And 🙌 to you @Themidnightcuppa for your treadmill walk.

Themidnightcuppa · 09/02/2026 00:05

Yawn, just finishing my cuppa, really need to be asleep, lots of stuff happening this week, Dave’s leg is a lot better but the relentless rain has scuppered a good few walks across the fields so we just walk to the corner shop and back whenever there’s a break in the rain and I’ve noticed it’s not quite so dark so early now. My daffs are looking good too, cant wait for some clear days and some sunshine.

OP posts:
WearyAuldWumman · 09/02/2026 01:22

Daffs already? I only have one miniature - February Gold, I think - at the moment. Plenty of snowdrops, however.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 09/02/2026 04:36

Also saw flowers coming up here at least a week ago already! Gorgeous day here today after massive rain yesterday.

Mh0509 · 09/02/2026 21:00

Just reading through catching up from December. Sorry to hear about your surgery! Hope you have fully recovered now. x

Themidnightcuppa · 21/02/2026 01:02

Darn it. Can’t sleep. Watched Graham Norton and don’t normally get to see the end. Dave’s snoring and my body is restless. Mid treatments and feeling crappy and cranky. Something they thought would only be quite mild turned into pretty much an awful reaction.

It’s still raining now 11 days since I last posted pretty much hampering us going out most days unless it’s for about 15 minutes dodging the showers. I’m so in need of some sunshine and blue sky. They say it will be double figures tomorrow I’ll be so fed up if it isn’t.
Right off to have a cuppa. I hope everyone else is fast asleep. 💐

OP posts:
WearyAuldWumman · 21/02/2026 01:19

I've just had a cup of hot milk. Will be heading to bed shortly.

I hope that the reactions calm down for you.

Sorry to hear your having bad reaction to treatment. Hope you are feeling better soon!
I’ve just in from work and having a hot honey and lemon to try and stop an annoying tickley cough!

Themidnightcuppa · 04/03/2026 00:03

My midnight cuppa returns, I’ve slept my way through days and nights for ages. Finally woke up this morning feeling human and have managed not to spend the whole day on the sofa.

Dave’s been enjoying walkies with the neighbours, can’t remember the last time I went, hopefully the weather will be good tomorrow and I can go. Sainsbury delivery driver asked after DH today, think they’d known each other somewhere along the line, he was a bit shocked to find he’d passed away over a year ago. Can’t help wondering where that year went.

OP posts:
WearyAuldWumman · 04/03/2026 00:39

Yes, I remember sleeping through the days. I still sleep more than I should, but things are getting better.

Hope you're getting a good sleep. I'm having a spiced hot chocolate.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 04/03/2026 01:09

@Themidnightcuppa I saw a very old friend of my dad whom I hadn't seen since I was a kid after my dad died and it was a bit awkward when he asked how my dad was doing and I told him he had just died and I planning the funeral (he didn't attend).
@WearyAuldWumman how did you make your spiced hot chocolate? 😋

Mug of milk in the micro; add 3 or 4 twists of black pepper plus a couple of good shakes of turmeric. Stir.

Sounds awful, but it's quite palatable and it's supposed to help with arthritis.

Themidnightcuppa · 31/03/2026 03:34

A while since Dave got me up for a wee in the middle of the night, though I’d stick the kettle on and have a scroll, life is a lot lonely especially when it’s dark and anyone at another time of day you might call is asleep.

I find the hour change mucks up my body clock, someone said to me today to stop thinking about what was the time was yesterday, but I can’t, my body clock for food is on last weeks time, lol.

And really it’s 2.30am, right off for cuppa number two and maybe just maybe some toast (and Nutella)

Mumtobabyhavoc · 31/03/2026 08:07

Hi, @Themidnightcuppa It's just past midnight here and I'm about to load some podcasts and go to asleep. I hope you managed to get back to sleep there. 💐

Themidnightcuppa · 14/04/2026 03:09

Darn it, still awake, mulling a toasted tea cake and a cuppa. Been writing a somewhat difficult letter and got carried away. I’d gone to bed, couldn’t sleep and it was in my head and so I thought, blow it, write it now.

Yawn, I am going to pay for this tomorrow. Tomorrow I am supposed to be clearing out heaps of junk to go to the tip, which I’ve booked, because we have to book to go to the tip here.

(Dave is snoring like a trooper, he also got the end of the gravy tonight and was rather smelly earlier, note to self, Do Not Give Dave Gravy!)

OP posts:
WearyAuldWumman · 14/04/2026 03:11

I'm just heading to bed now. Need to be up in time for an 11 am online appointment....

I'm guessing that Dave at least enjoyed his gravy!
