I’ve just seen something weird in the sky.

Ddog is unsettled so took her out for a sniff in the garden.

It’s incredibly starry tonight, can see Andromeda Galaxy without binoculars.

As I was looking up at the sky an object blocked out stars and travelled very quickly across the sky, kind of below and parallel to Cassiopeia, east to west.
It had no lights, no noise, just a speedy thing that I only saw because i happened to be looking in the exact right place and it’s so clear tonight.

I have no eye conditions, so nothing medical to explain this.
It was too big and quick to be an owl or bat or any flying creature.

In terms of size, compared to a typical aeroplane size in the sky it was much bigger and rounder.

It was a ufo wasn’t it!

It's interesting. I live in a city and I never see any weird lights in the sky.

My mother lives in a bungalow in an extremely rural area. There is fields either side of her. Nearest neighbour is a five mi ute walk away.

I've seen so many weird lights in the sky around my mums house over the years.

I suppose if aliens were going to fly down to earth, they would fly to the more remote areas, so they wouldn't be seen by thousands of people.

SockPuppet · 06/12/2024 16:25

@WeGotCows Yes - sorry hadn’t read that there was no light to it. How curious!

Mearabade · 06/12/2024 16:25

One time I was at my mums house. I looked out the window, and I said "wow the moon is very big tonight'

Then I saw (what I thought was the moon), in a completely different position in the sky, a couple of minutes later.

I looked more closely at it. It seemed to be one big light made up of three glowing discs.

Like something was "pretending to be the moon".

LoveRicePudding · 06/12/2024 16:27

An asteorid hit Earth somewhere in Siberia on 4th. Not sure if this is what you describe.

Mearabade · 06/12/2024 16:30

I do think it's likely that there is life all around the universe.

It'd be strange if we were the only planet with life.

They are probably way more advanced than we are, and they leave us alone at the moment to develop as the quite primitive planet that we are.

SprostenGreen · 06/12/2024 16:30

Will people stop trying to be sensible. It is the trampolines, I tell you, the trampolines! 😁

Space station?

notimagain · 06/12/2024 17:12

@wavingfuriously

The space station (ISS) seen from earth is tiny, it looks like a very bright star when sunlit, and certainly isn’t big enough to cover an noticeable area of sky.

TBH in a city light pollution means you can see bugger all, they could be raving up there and you’d never know!

In rural areas it’s so much easier to see stars.

I used to have a chart that showed how big a difference light pollution makes, I’ll see if I can find it.

I saw it last night, so different date.
The asteroid massively lit up the sky too, would be very cool to see!

Space station?

We see the SS regularly, it looks like a moving star, so no, it wasn’t that.

I've had this! My flat only faces one side and I've seen something that looks like the moon at a time I know it's not meant to be there. Confused the heck out of me so I checked again - I had just moved and initially thought I'd got the moon trajectory wrong- and was just left baffled. Forgot it till just now.

SnowFrogJelly · 07/12/2024 01:28

What was it

SprostenGreen · 07/12/2024 02:44

SnowFrogJelly · 07/12/2024 01:28

What was it

A trampoline. It is a busy night out there for them, at it like rabbits. More chance of avoiding inbreeding when the winds are strong as they can fly further than usual.

If anyone reads Angry People In Local Newspapers, then it has to be a cat. 😁

I have five aunties.

One of them is the most hardened cynical woman. She is extremely serious. I'm trying to grt her personality across, as she is not the type to make stuff up.

She said that one day she was putting washing out on her line. She said that a ufo flew over her slowly in the daytime, and she saw it in such detail - that she saw a woman in one of the windows looking out at her.

😂

"I'm inclined to think as humans we are not quite as clever as we think we are at understanding our place in this universe"

Actually, I think we're quite good at understanding our place in the universe. Obviously there's loads more to discover, but we have successfully investigated and explained all credible UFO sightings so far. With a bit of luck there'll be another real one soon!

This is actually not true. The US Government have admitted that UAP are real and there have been things encountered by military pilots and naval officers that defy explanation. They haven't said the sightings are extra terrestrial just that they can't currently be explained.

timetodecide2345 · 07/12/2024 14:52

@WeGotCows that's an interesting picture detailing how visible the night sky is. Once whilst camping in Thirsk my daughter and I witnessed a galaxy and she was blown away. She was 10. It made her want to become an astronaut. Unfortunately she won't be able to as agoraphobia then took over but her favourite film of all time is interstellar.

Seeing a whole other galaxy is absolutely mind blowing!

If she’s interested there’s a list of objects in the sky that can be found with binoculars, called the Messier list. Can be fun to try to find things. There are more galaxies that can be seen with binoculars.

It’s much easier with binoculars, but this image shows how to find it…

There are three that are fairly easy to see with binoculars that you can use The Plough (big dipper) to navigate to them. Whirlpool galaxy, Bode and Cigar galaxies.

I’ve just seen something weird in the sky.
