I’ve just seen something weird in the sky.

Ddog is unsettled so took her out for a sniff in the garden.

It’s incredibly starry tonight, can see Andromeda Galaxy without binoculars.

As I was looking up at the sky an object blocked out stars and travelled very quickly across the sky, kind of below and parallel to Cassiopeia, east to west.
It had no lights, no noise, just a speedy thing that I only saw because i happened to be looking in the exact right place and it’s so clear tonight.

I have no eye conditions, so nothing medical to explain this.
It was too big and quick to be an owl or bat or any flying creature.

In terms of size, compared to a typical aeroplane size in the sky it was much bigger and rounder.

It was a ufo wasn’t it!

OP is clearly pretty knowledgeable about the night sky and astronomy and knows what she did (or did't) see, yet people still coming on saying, "yeah, it was Starlink for sure", clearly without a clue what Stalink is or what it looks like.

Starlink?

Interesting hadn't heard of that!

I looked up pictures of it. Yeah it could have been.
But the pictures of the starlink online don't match what I saw.

Star link online looks like one long row of lights.

I saw something that wasn't a single row of lights. It had lights similiar to what you would see in a tower block. Multiple lights across and down.

But they could have more advanced versions of the starlink, that I cant see in photos online.

So it could have been something like a starlink.

These drones have been in NJ for the past few days and now Staten Island. The FBI are supposedly investigating. Why don't they send a helicopter up?
CurlewKate · 06/12/2024 12:22

@WeGotCows "There have been depictions of UFOs in old artwork, so whatever these things are have been around for hundreds of years"

There haven't, you know.

timetodecide2345 · 06/12/2024 12:23

They have been hovering over uk and US airbases and nuclear installations for 16-17 days now. With impunity. Why? If it's a drone. Shoot it down.

Actually, I think we're quite good at understanding our place in the universe. Obviously there's loads more to discover, but we have successfully investigated and explained all credible UFO sightings so far. With a bit of luck there'll be another real one soon!

timetodecide2345 · 06/12/2024 12:28

@CurlewKate I disagree. I don't think we have been able to explain many of these UAP events. You don't have to dig too deep in this subject to discover that!

JaneJeffer · 06/12/2024 12:33

There are also UFOs on ancient rock carvings

Helpnifoseeker · 06/12/2024 12:40

I saw a fair few odd things in the sky when I was living in rural Ireland, possibly due to less light pollution. The X and myself used to smoke outside and when the sky was clear, we often saw the same things. On a few occasions the 3 of us, my son, the X and me would all see the same strange thing at the same time. It helped me to know I wasn't hallucinating.
I'm not sure I believe in the existence of aliens though. It could be that there are machines built on Earth that we don't know about? I'm a Catholic and I find it easier to believe in extra-dimensional beings than in extra-terrestrials. I am open to finding out either way. I'm sure the truth will come out sooner or later.

There have been depictions of things in the sky that haven’t yet been identified.

I’m not saying it’s evidence of aliens (although US congress hearings have pretty much admitted it), but perhaps evidence that things we're seeing in the skies have been there all along.

Once upon a time a rainbow would have been a IFO of its time.

There are several sightings with credible witnesses that haven’t been explained.

Edited

I have seen the Starlink and it's quite distinctive and was different to the other strange objects we have seen. All the satellites are easy to identify once you've seen a couple of them and know how they move. The weird things we saw didn't move like satellites , either the normal ones nor the Starlink!

CurlewKate · 06/12/2024 13:41

I thought this was Congress's position- "has not found any verifiable evidence that any UAP observation represented extraterrestrial activity nor has the department discovered any verifiable information to substantiate claims that any programs regarding the possession or reverse-engineering of extraterrestrial materials have existed in the past or exist currently”."

I'd love to be proved wrong!

timetodecide2345 · 06/12/2024 13:42

@CurlewKate aw bless you. To quote Mandy Rice Davies. 'Well they would say that wouldn't they'!

Fabuloosaloo · 06/12/2024 13:58

I once saw a very bright rotating light going very quickly in a straight line from horizon to horizon. It was not a shooting star as I have seen loads of those.

Diplidocus4 · 06/12/2024 14:04

I was out walking the dogs this morning, still dark and noticed a white light travelling south (West Wales) which was silent but high - looked like travelling star ? Not a shooting star as a steady pace ? No flashing or sound ....

Quite possibly/probably a satellite.

Mm I’m on the fence. Statistically we can’t be ‘alone in the universe’. But in the age of mobile phones and everyone having a camera to hand there’s not much hard proof

in the 1980’s lots of black triangles were spotted In the skies And reported on.

years later they turned out to be not ufo’s that had been seen but stealth planes on secret military missions

That is the definition of UFO surely - if no one looking at the time knew what the unidentified flying object was, it was...an unidentified flying object.

or are you conflating UFOs with aliens?

Girlmath · 06/12/2024 15:41

My DP is very in to UFO's, me not really but I do find things quite interesting. Lots going on with Congress at the moment. Also apparently sightings etc increasing and it's been suggested that's due to getting closer to the threat of nuclear weapons being used.
I did see something when I was younger which I absolutely can't explain but I'm a bit nervous about admitting aliens could exist 😂

Bixterret · 06/12/2024 15:42

ET going home for Christmas

Alalalala · 06/12/2024 15:51

What did you see @Girlmath ? Interested to hear!

WeGotCows · 06/12/2024 15:54

@Girlmath id love to hear too!

In the latest hearings they talked about nuclear weapons being disarmed, which is certainly very interesting, and something I’ve heard about for years.

Was it not a Halloween fireball aka a Taurid meteor? They travel more slowly and are larger than eg the Perseid meteors. I’ve seen one before, low, horizontal.

WeGotCows · 06/12/2024 16:20

@SockPuppet if that’s to me then no, it wasn’t a meteor, there was no light to it at all, just a black object that blocked out the stars and wouldn’t have been seen if it wasn’t so clear.

There was a meteor earlier in the night, 10.30ish, in a similar area but travelling in a different direction - was beautiful, and again I was lucky enough to be looking in the exact right place!
