I love this place sometimes. The not-so-thinly veiled Muslim hatred is usually out in force at any mention of something “they” might have done, yet when one of “them” suddenly does something that can be twisted to almost fit the anti-trans agenda you’re all suddenly super tolerant of this wonderful religion 😂.

Honestly, you couldn’t make it up 🤦‍♀️.

I would applaud a Christian who refused to wear it, or indeed a footballer of any faith or none.

What? You mean there isn't a big friendly overlap between the Trans activists and the Islamic faith? Has anyone told ...the left?

So it’s ok to be homophobic because he’s Muslim? How does that fit with the Kick it Out ethos?

Muslims disagreeing with homosexuality is no more a 'phobia' than being against pre-marital sex or infidelity is premaritalsexphobia or infidelityphobia. We have really got to stop calling everything a 'phobia'. Its ridiculous.

SuperfluousHen · 04/12/2024 15:20

Silvan · 04/12/2024 14:36

Ok but it’s probably reasonable to infer that he thinks homosexuality is immoral.

Are you seriously now trying to second guess what someone thinks ??

1984, anyone?

What does 'disagreeing with homosexuality' mean?

MrsOvertonsWindow · 04/12/2024 15:26

The FA bans displaying all political allegiances. Except it seems the Stonewall banner. Stonewall who openly campaign to end women only sport, changing rooms, showers etc, who campaign for lesbian only groups to accept men who claim to be lesbians in them and have pushed for the transitioning of children below the age of consent for many years.

It's a political campaign that works against the interests and safety of women and girls - and the men in the FA openly promote it.
Idiots.

hollyblueivy · 04/12/2024 15:26

FKAT · 04/12/2024 13:29

Good for him. The FA bans all religious and political symbols on kits. They should read their own policy.

Is this true? How does the rainbow find its place in football then?

"anti-trans agenda"

That right there, says everything about your agenda. A misogynistic, anti-women agenda. 🤦‍♀️

But it does show the hypocrisy of those who are pro-Muslim/anti-Islamophobia until Muslims do one thing that deviates from a pro-LGBT agenda.

Such HYPOCRISY!

You can choose to not have premarital sex or an affair. You can’t choose your sexuality. Believe me, I tried! So “disagreeing” with someone’s sexuality is very different. That said, people shouldn’t be forced to openly support something they disagree with.

Yes - it's true. And that's a very good question.

I wonder how many of these people condemning this footballer for his beliefs have/would wield a LGBTQ for Palestine signs...

🤦‍♀️

PonkyPonky · 04/12/2024 15:37

We supposedly live in a free country where all are entitled to their own beliefs and faiths. That is his faith and the FA should respect that. I’m not a big fan of religion in general but it’s absolutely none of my business what other people believe. Football or any sport just isn’t the place for any of it. Not religion, nor politics, nor activism. Just play the bloody game without sending any messages.

TheWiseFish · 04/12/2024 15:47

@bymerrykoala The left 🤣🤣 God love them ,they still don't know & can't comprehend that a woman is a biological female & there are only two sex male & female 😅

Good on this man for doing what he wants, hopefully many more children ,teens & young adults will follow suit & not be coerced into virtue signalling if they don't want to.
This man is leading by example & he's 100% correct.

tobee · 04/12/2024 15:47

This is why it's all bollocks when they say "we are an inclusive club/organisation/industry etc. We welcome everyone" because it really isn't possible if you scratch the surface of the virtue signalling.

There is a huge amount of homophobia in men's football and from the fans.

But trying to force players to wear rainbow coats & laces is not the way to address it.

This has backfired big time as this player is widely supported for saying No ,I won't & it will now encourage many more to say "sod this bollox"...

I think it’s disingenuous to pretend he won’t wear a rainbow shirt because he has a gender critical position on transpeople. He won’t wear a rainbow shirt because he believes that being gay is wrong, that gay people shouldn’t exist, and doesn’t want to be associated with any suggestion that being gay is perfectly normal - and there’s no place for that in any walk of life, particularly if you work in a role visible to the public and your employer is paying you to represent them.

But both Sexual Orientation and Religious Belief are protected under the same U.K. law, the Equality Act 2010?

An employer cannot compel employees to profess support of one protected characteristic when it clashes with another.

I agree. We're never going to live in a utopia with so many people living here from different backgrounds, cultures, religions etc. so the most practical thing for any organisation to aim for is tolerance and respect.

Whether that's a religious person being courteous in day to day interactions with a gay person despite personal beliefs or a gay person being courteous to a religious person despite what they think of religious beliefs.

Forcing people to act out allyship or become human billboards for a cause they have disagreement with is massively backfiring all over the place and is actively unhelpful in fostering tolerance between different communities.

I don't disagree that homophobia in premier football continues to be an issue but tackling it in this way is just making it worse IMO.

Well thankfully this will open the floodgates. These political agendas should not be pushed in schools either.

Tiswa · 04/12/2024 16:05

What exactly do you think Man Utd should do about it @coxesorangepippin?
it is his faith which is protected - and an Ipswich captain refused to wear the band for similar reasons.
His religious beliefs need to be respected - he isn’t saying anyone else shouldn’t simply that he won’t

I'm on X, my dh is on lots of football related groups & the common consensus is good on him.
It's a lesson for all of us not to be forced into any political virtue signalling that is not in our job descriptions .
