Oh dear. It's one of those prom things. On steroids.

LadyWiddiothethird · 02/12/2024 17:04

Who would refer to Chris Martin as “fading pop star”?

mitogoshigg · 02/12/2024 17:11

@noblegiraffe

My thoughts too.

I knew debutant balls did still exist but I thought they tried to keep out the common yet rich folk

She's the image of her mother

She looks more like Gwyneth than Gwyneth does now.

re: Beckhams, Brooklyn has married ‘well’ & it looks like a love match. Good for them.

As opposed to what? An arranged marriage? Water finds its level I suppose.

AnImaginaryCat · 02/12/2024 17:23

Stretchedresources · 02/12/2024 13:53

It's really fucking weird. I thought Chris Martin was a nice, slightly quirky pop star. This makes him look like a knob.

Who ever knows really. The personality of famous people can be very contrived.

Plus, people can act nice just as long as they are the ones on top - in the sense the with all the most power or money - others aren't a threat to them then.

DuesToTheDirt · 02/12/2024 17:29

It was worth reading that just to find out the existence of "Count Leo Henckel von Donnersmarck"! Grin

MissMarplesCat · 02/12/2024 17:31

Well It's about money, about securing her career, the parents continuation of a career (relevance), etc.
And why anyone who patronises celeb trash via the DM would act shocked by this, er, trash, well,,,

MissMarplesCat · 02/12/2024 17:32

You know, it get's people pissing, hissing and talking, eyeballs on ads, and the money rolls in, but not towards the plebs eating up the gossip. Wasn't it always thus?

The German aristocracy was abolished in 1919 - it’s just a courtesy title at this point, and he almost certainly doesn’t use it day to day (unless he wants to look like a prat).

EconomyClassRockstar · 02/12/2024 17:38

Completely off topic but I freakin hate the term, “nouveau riche”. It’s 2024. They’re just rich. Self made and rich, which is arguably the best kind anyway.

AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta · 02/12/2024 17:41

Plastictrees · 02/12/2024 16:15

They have exploited their children for the sake of their silly ‘brand’, it’s tragic.

Brooklyn has been rightly pilloried in the press for his photography/chef careers and for the life of me I cannot understand how his parents allowed him to put himself in that position when they have all the money available for him to go to any of the best catering schools or photography courses in the world. It almost feels like a cruelty.

LBFseBrom · 02/12/2024 17:41

'Arriviiste' is worse.

Is this the new and more pretentious way of saying New Money?,

Do they even use the term in the U.S which does not have the same class system.

Words · 02/12/2024 17:46

It's the absolute epitome of nouveau riche and arriviste I am afraid.

But good luck to them all.

Goldenbear · 02/12/2024 17:47

Oops sorry, just realised it isn't on the U.S.A

ZenNudist · 02/12/2024 17:48

I think Gwyneth looks great. How nice it is to see a celebrity aging well. She's always been beautiful but some women her age (the cast of sex and the city etc) have made themselves look weird with surgery and fillers. Even kirsten bell looked like she'd messed up her lips in Nobody Wants This.

Also, Apple (still a silly name!) Is very pretty but that's no shock given her gene pool and also she's young she should be gorgeous.

It's all very Gossip Girl.

noise25 · 02/12/2024 17:52

I think it's tragic. Americans - and particularly rich ones - are obsessed by class and European culture. What they don't realise is that no one here subscribes to that shit anymore.

SalsaLights · 02/12/2024 17:53

I thought G looked good. I don't think she's had any obvious work, which is nice and makes a refreshing change from the botox/fillers that seem increasingly de rigeur.

Apple looks like she's had something done to her top lip - it looked painful TBH. The posing in front of someone else's camera time was pretty shitty and I suspect she's being rinsed on social media for it.

Rich people gonna rich.

The money goes to charity, correct?

Correct on both counts.

I don't like the black bow on the blue dress.
Granny is well preserved.
I love the idea of waltzing with Hungarian counts.
It is a bit ...unlike my family life!

I waltzed with a Hungarian count once. It wasn't that exciting. You've not missed out!

By the way, have you seen "Meet The Rees-Moggs" ?

Absolutely! This is exactly what I was thinking.
