I agree that the news could be seen as overkill for one person , but I feel it's important, plus his comments about class upset me a bit ( he was saying that anyone who isn't 'middle class ' is fair game and wouldn't get upset by the ' banter ', when that is clearly rubbish )
His opened a whole new can of worms there!

How to show you have no idea of the complaints name about him.

NoBinturongsHereMate · 02/12/2024 09:41

You really do live up to your name don't you, Fawn?

Not 20 years ago, are you hard of reading or counting? Complaints from the 13 relate to 2011, 2017, 2018 amongst other years. And the Beeb also received a complaint in 2022.

TabloidFootprints · 02/12/2024 09:19

Actually I was buying some stuff on PI earlier, clicked on "what's new" and there it was - I thought wow, that was quick!

I love that they haven't gone in for any kind of explainer or background for the t-shirt and the blurb on the listing is
'Just because'.

SheilaFentiman · 02/12/2024 09:43

And the Beeb does tend to feature allegations against folks working on its programmes quite prominently, because the alternative is to be accused of mimimisation or a cover up

And Mrs Wallace the 4th turns up

Sorry quoted wrong person but can't edit that bit so hopefully you all get my drift

crumblingschools · 02/12/2024 09:48

The more airtime this gets the more this type of behaviour can get called out. And the hope that more people will feel empowered to speak out about it (and not just middle class women of a certain age) and one can but hope the less this behaviour will happen

I realise you cannot edit and quoted wrong person.

I think Gregg Wallace is a misogynistic twat who preys on women with less power. Women call him out and he doubles diwn. Stupid misogynistic men support him with its all a bit of fun and banter

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 02/12/2024 09:53

WeavingShed · 02/12/2024 09:11

Another piece on R4.

David Yelland - a total lack of self awareness and his attack on middle class women of a certain age is a disastrous move made in a panic without advice.

Sarah Vine - speaking as a woman of a certain age. Not trying to defend him but 20 years ago he was part of the popular lad culture and fitted right in. He failed to grow up and see times have changed.

Surely it is his own arrogance and belief that as a ‘celeb’ he is untouchable, that has caused the backlash. He has wilfully chosen not to move with the times.

I wish men who need to overcompensate would stop coming on here to do it.

You think sexual harassment is entertaining. 'man's banter' indeed.

And 'little girls' used as a disparaging term. Quite telling.

Hoppinggreen · 02/12/2024 10:08

If the options are a sanitised world (whever the Fuck that means) or men like GGreg WWallace getting away with abusing his position for over 20 years I will happily take the former.
I imagine that some people who post on here may have only joined recently and only post on this subject, wonder why?

LaurenAction · 02/12/2024 10:09

At least the woman who followed her, an MP I think, had some formed thoughts. She said the BBC should hold off on the broadcast of the MasterChef episode due to go out tonight as viewers won't understand it was recorded before this debacle and will interpret it as an endorsement of him.

Won't understand it was recorded before? Fuck's sake. Some of us do have a modicum of mental capacity Hmm

He's just trying to get attention.

So if the people who ignored the complaints are women are they exempt from being called out enabling him?

People really need to stop looking at peoples identities instead of their actions.

Working with this guy when he was being inappropriate when you're loaded and can ditch the job speaks much louder than anyone's words.

Edited

Yes I agree with this.

It is overwhelmingly men at the top of the industry and its mostly men who have stood alongside this behaviour for years - hard to see Torode escaping this one.

However women in positions of power and influence in the industry do exist and have the same duty to challenge and protect the less powerful as their male peers. None of this detracts from the primary cause (Wallace) but if senior figures and talent (mostly male but some female) had acted sooner then their (mostly female but some male) victims would be few instead of many. Both things are true.

I don't know if Allsopp tried to challenge or register an issue over his behaviour or if she simply left it for others to struggle with. I'd hope the former as she was a powerful figure in her own right at the time.

You should try and get a job as GGregs PR or something

SerenityNowSerenityNow · 02/12/2024 10:21

Take away man's banter and you end up with little girls.

What have I just read?
Perhaps men just need to learn how to be funny without making sexual innuendos or sexual comments to women.

I'm not sure what type of men you associate with but men are not just banter and without it are 'little girls '. Old fashioned stereotypes. Get out and meet better men. They aren't all misogynistic twats like the ones you fawn over including Gregg.
