Christ onna bike. What's with all the woman-blaming?

It's not women's responsibility to control this grim man's behaviour. It's his fault and his alone. Without him behaving like a prize lecherous dickhead there's nothing to lodge a complaint or not lodge a complaint about.

FFS.

'Middle class women' = 'females I'm intimidated by, who are usually awkwardly silenced by faux-jaunty references to my cock, unlike working class women who dutifully roar with laughter like good girls, unless they're frigid or something'.

'Of a certain age' = 'women I consider too old to fuck, which is, by the way, the ultimate burn'

Very well put.

DeniseElizabeth611234 · 01/12/2024 19:30

This don't sound right at all. So disrespectful

TarantinoIsAMisogynist · 01/12/2024 19:32

Middle class women of a certain age = women who now have enough status and security to feel able to speak up publicly.

I feel for all the younger, less powerful employees he will have done this to, who probably don't feel able to speak up.

Prince Andrew: I’ve just done a great piece to camera

Gregg Wallace: hold my drink

😂

THEY DIDN'T!

I'VE LITERALLY JUST POSTED A LIST OF COMPLAINTS THAT WERE MADE AND YOU ARE CHOOSING NOT TO SEE IT.

Thank you! Didn't choose, just responded too quickly without reading all posts. Sorry

I don't watch bake off much nice but isn't it more innuendos about the food, not said directly to or about a person? Before everyone decides to pile on - mumsnetter of old - I'm asking a question, not stating an opinion.

Funnily enough we were just talking about this. I've not watched it for a couple of seasons now but found the innuendo quite tedious. But as you say, it's not directed at people. However, we only see the edited version and I do wonder if it will be the next show to have revelations about it, following Strictly and Masterchef.

I stopped going to a fitness class because of all the sexual innuendo from the other people who went. I think I must be a prude because I just find it annoying although it wasn't aimed at me. It just seems like a teenage boy thing to do, not middle aged men (AND women).

Assuming you are not Homer, you might want to look up the difference between 'dark' and 'blue'.

And then 'humour'.

Always good to meet a classicist.

Exactly

What does that even mean? Any normal man is disgusted by GW. The "men who hate us" are hardly going to look to him as a hero!! I also don't feel that men, as a homogeneous mass hate women. I've never felt that.

There are plenty of men who hate women. They're all over the internet. One prominent one is Andrew Tate, and he has a huge following among young men, sadly. They applaud his evil and support him instead of expressing disgust.

If men as a class respected and valued women there would never have been any need for the suffragettes or the feminist movement, rapists would get whole term life sentences, rape would be prosecuted vigorously, women would be believed when they made a claim of rape, and Donald "I grab them by the pussy" Trump would not have been elected president of the United States twice.

I don't need to, others have put it far better then me.
I hope neither you nor any woman you care about is ever subjected to this sort of behaviour and has it dismissed like you have here
Just because there has been no physical contact (which we don't know for sure) it does not mean GGreg isn't a disgusting human being who has sexually harrassed many many women.

SheilaWilde · 01/12/2024 19:40

The most unsettling thing is that women, including some on this thread, are defending him!

The BBC is, despite them pretending not to be, an old boys network who condone this sort of behaviour and only appear 'concerned' and 'active' when their hand is forced. Making a complaint within the BBC is very hard and those that do are 'frozen' out in a very subtle way which means no career progression and often no job because you are now one of 'those' (complainer, can't take a joke, trouble) rather than one of 'them' (possibly quietly condoning but 'it's just part of the job' and 'keep your mouth shut'). The BBC needs to do better.

Oh I think some sort of clarion call went out on another website / Whats App group. It often does because MN is so big and influential. You see it a lot on the Feminist board and also the Royal Board about certain topics. It usually means the subject of the discussion knows deep down, underneath their venal layers of narcissistic gristle, that they're in the big shit but they want to fight and flounder all the way down through the waiting circles of hell.

People with 8 figures of 'fuck you' money who chose to work with this creep instead of walking off the job are the 'industry' enabling the behaviour.

Gender has nothing to do with it. Celebrity does.

BluebirdBoogie · 01/12/2024 19:42

I don't think he was talking about older women, I think it was those of the younger generation who haven't had to live through years of misogyny and are more likely to call out this kind of behaviour.

Disturbia81 · 01/12/2024 19:47

I'm as working class as they come and can't stand the shiny misshapen egg.

RainbowZebraWarrior · 01/12/2024 19:49

How depressing to see the same old victim blaming and tired old tropes trotted out.

"Powerful women in TV can't possibly be scared of powerful men in TV" Nope. The power imbalance still gives men the upper hand.

"Why didn't these women come forward sooner?" A. They did. B. That's just code for "I don't believe them, and they are jumping on the bandwagon"

"Oh, it's just banter. Professional kitchens and the TV world are brutal" Yes, cheffing is brutal. It's a different world to anything most folk would understand. There's a lot of swearing and pressure. We don't put up with this kind of shit, though. Respect is everything.

Sickening.

I'm an ex Masterchef contestant. Thankfully, that was the year that Gary Rhodes hosted. Gary, the Producer and Director and the rest of the crew at the time were wonderful. I worked as a chef for many years afterwards. I've never watched the show since GW and JT took over. I have good reasons for that.

No, when men like him refer to "women of a certain age" they are always referring to middle aged and upwards. It's a derogatory term for those they deem to be unfuckable.

SheilaFentiman · 01/12/2024 20:02

so have the BBC as his employers:

One of the issues with all such cases (See also Noel Clarke etc) is that the BBC is very often NOT the employer. Yes, they do directly employ some 'talent' eg Gary Lineker direct, but many many programmes are made by external production companies. And even then, those companies probably do not employ the 'talent' but have a short contract with them to produce a specific programme or series.

I agree that the broadcasters need to be better because they are ultimately the source of the commission, but I don't know what that would look like - ensuring all production companies have codes of conduct, spot checks on set etc?

He’s not very bright or self aware, is he? Agree that his lawyer and agent will be choking on their eggs Benedict right now.

Not placemarking. Has anyone checked on 🥚Wallace’s publicist to make sure that she is ok?
