I'm just drinking my first cuppa of the day, in my kitchen spot, in almost silence. The washer's whirring away with towels in, but it's otherwise quiet 😊 I'm just going to sit for half an hour, then spring into action.

It's tree day here 🎄 & I'm so looking forward to it, and the other decorations, going up! The girls take the mick a bit but it's one of my favourite days of the year.

Before that though, I need to have a quick tidy round, wash a few pots, stick tonight's gammon in the slow cooker, take my tablets, and pack up a couple of things I've sold on Vinted to send later on. I've made enough for the train fare to Harrogate for the Christmas market, and food while we're there so I'm happy with that!

Tonight it'll be my usual Self-Care-Sunday scrubby everything shower, followed by an hour or two of crochet, then an early night 💤 ready for work tomorrow.

What about all of you? 🙂

Hello @lucysmam. We bought our tree yesterday so will try to get it up and decorated today. Currently enjoying porridge and coffee before I take DS to his football match.

dontforgetme · 01/12/2024 08:53

Good morning @lucysmam and all.

It's elf madness in our house this morning, the kids are so excited!!

We are having an house day today as we always do on December 1st. Roast beef dinner with lots of Christmas music and films.

First things first - cup of tea and the grinch!

Happy first December all🎅🏻

Roastitcheese · 01/12/2024 08:57

Having tea then going for a long country walk.
There happens to be a farm shop cafe along the route so will stop there for a coffee and scone.

Topsy44 · 01/12/2024 08:57

Just about to jump in the shower and get dressed as DD and I are off to see my Mum for the day. We’ll stop at Mum’s local shopping centre en route as DD is after a new outfit.

Left over spag Bol tea for this evening and Celebrity!

BCBird · 01/12/2024 08:57

Morning. Hope u will be having a mince pie or two, I know I would. I've been to the tip (putting house up for sale soon) and am.now having breakfast. Going to meet a friend at National Trust property later. I usually prep lessons, but did some yesterday. Debating whether to make my own mincemeat and mince pies- gluten free. Have copied recipes onto paper- that first step. Love this thread. It one of the few that does not turn nasty 😁 Have a good day.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 01/12/2024 09:03

Morning, all. I don’t like to put the tree up for another couple of weeks, but I might dig out some candles as it’s all looking rather dark and gloomy.

Having a bit of a lie in with the Observer and then I’m going for a massage. Possibly a walk after that. I’ve got to do a grocery order and I want to sew up a couple of little Christmas gifts. I’ve had some beautiful fabric for a while, waiting to be made into a dress, but I think I’m only up to tiny, simple projects at the moment so it will have to wait.

Making burritos for tea.

popandchoc · 01/12/2024 09:05

Enjoy putting the tree up!

I am going to pick my girls up from their Dad's in a bit. DD2 has a dance rehearsal this afternoon and i'm going to watch all the animated Christmas specials on c4 and then watch Nativity at dinner time.

RabbitsRock · 01/12/2024 09:07

Good morning @lucysmam & everyone. Clock watching as working in a bit but finish at 2 then we’re going to buy a tree. DH will put the lights on & DD15 is doing the rest plus the little artificial tree in her room. Not sure what’s for tea as I forgot to get meatballs from the butchers. Just about to unload/load the dishwasher. Very busy week ahead so a chilled out evening is on the cards. Started watching The Resident last night which seems ok so far.

frozendaisy · 01/12/2024 09:08

Coffee on then wake everyone for our monthly local farm volunteering.

Not Christmas tree here yet we have an early December birthday and like to keep it separate, and keep tree up into January and my limit in total is about 3, at a push 3 1/2 weeks. So yeah not quite yet for us.

Have a stack of winter novels to start though and advent calendars will come out.

Sunday roast later, bags packed and a Sunday movie. Finalise college application very important.

Should be a good day I think.

Crunchymum · 01/12/2024 09:09

Morning all, it's fake tree today (real tree will be around 10th December!)

But we'll get everything else up today. We've harvested quite a collection over the years - Christmas plaques, candles,
ornaments and festive twigs 😂

We also have all the boring stuff to deal with too. Homework, ironing, chores. I'm waiting for food shopping and I think it's going to be fajitas later. Nice and easy.

Hoping for a festive film this evening.

Coffeeandcake32 · 01/12/2024 09:12

Lazy morning watching TV and eating bacon sandwiches for me Dh and DS aged 4.
Will get ready soon and all do a food shop. need to do a full house clean today but at some point will get out for a walk (scoot for DS) For him to burn off some energy. Lasange for tea tonight

FaceLikeACrackedScreen · 01/12/2024 09:26

We're going to the candlelit service/advent procession at York Minster tonight, I love it, go every year, it is definitely the start of Christmas for us.

Busy day beforehand, I've already taken DC2 to work, picking up DC1 at 3pm before picking up DC2 from work at 4pm. Hopefully we'll get time to find somewhere to eat quickly before making our way to the church.

I'm looking forward to actually sitting down and enjoying the choir when I get there.

Before then I'm going to the dump in the rain, food shopping and to collect something I've sent to the Amazon locker (because late teen DC are worse than when they were little when it comes to wanting to know what Christmas will bring - stupidly excited).

I also want to find some decent quality lit paper stars for the windows, things I can use again and again. Suspect that will be online rather than in person.

Cheersmedears123 · 01/12/2024 09:27

Morning! I seem to not be sleeping well at the moment despite being absolutely shattered, I think because work has been so stressful recently.

Supermarket delivery has arrived and we’re about to sort out some breakfast. There’s a Christmas market nearby that we’ll walk to at lunchtime, then back home to get a roast dinner on. I’m going to see how I manage with copious amounts of coffee but may need an afternoon nap in front of the fire. It annoys me when I’m so exhausted at the weekend as I can’t make the most of not being at work. At some point I might watch a Christmas film with DS. The tree will be for next weekend!

Dirtydancing1 · 01/12/2024 09:27

Morning all.
Just having my second coffee in bed, I'm very tired this morning as had a disturbed nights sleep, cat greeted me with a rat at 2am, then at 5am decided it was time for fuss.
We got all the Xmas stuff out the loft yesterday, so will be decorating today.
I got a brand new felt cat decoration for the tree, the kitten ran off with it and beat it up.
So will see later how well the tree survives with the kitten.
I need to pop out later to post a couple of things I sold on Vinted.
Unsure what's for dinner today as sometimes xmas decorating can take a while as will be waiting for eldest DC to get up until we start.
Looking forward to feeling cosy later with all the Xmas lights on.
Will have a nice bath and hair wash later and get all the things ready for work and school.
Most likely have an early night with my book.

Giggorata · 01/12/2024 09:30

Good morning, lucysmam and all.
Not a bad day today, so after my usual prolonged tea fest, I am going to hang washing out.
We are a quite late Xmas tree household, but I will be doing some Xmas shopping on the Amazon site in the country where DS1 and family live.

Still mustn't lift anything heavy but I bought a (fabulous) collectors dolls house which has arrived in a huge packing case, which is currently sitting in the middle of the kitchen floor.
I plan to gently walk it out onto one of those plant pot trolleys and roll it to the stairs, so that DH can get it upstairs, and then I will resume trundling into the room where my collection sits.
Then I will happily muck about with it until the Snooker final starts at lunchtime.
DH has done something meaty in the slow cooker, so I will peel some vegetables later to accompany it.

Hedjwitch · 01/12/2024 09:33

Nothing planned for today. Still in bed. Tree went up yesterday so a few bits of finishing off decorating to do.
Might tackle the laundry pile.

Or .....could decorate the laundry pile with lights and tinsel and kill two birds with one stone.

FayKnights · 01/12/2024 09:36

Morning @lucysmamand gang!
Christmas decs are going up here too, I’m off to Canterbury for a weekend away next week, so won’t have time to do it then.
Enjoy putting your trees up 🎄

@Giggorata I’ve just discovered the miniature making programme on C4, the things that make for the dolls house is unreal! Do you do the same?

lollypopsforme · 01/12/2024 09:36

I got out of bed about 20 minutes ago having my coffee now.
I will get showered soon put clean pjs on and binge with youtube all day.

Giggorata · 01/12/2024 09:41

@FayKnights I do try, but I'm not nearly as good!
I've had some good results with fimo modelling and I'm quite good at converting rubbish into things, (for example, the balls out of deodorant bottles make wonderful light shades.)

B3aronthechair · 01/12/2024 09:48

Morning All,

Just having my 2nd coffee of the morning and listening to the rain, a very wet day here today!
A bit more tidying up to do but I’ve got to finish my MA independent study proposal today, need some motivation. I received my grades for the last assignment, I managed to get an 80 so that gave me a little boost. Fancy doing something a little festive but we’re not quite ready for the tree up! I need to look into Vinted selling! Love Harrogate, we went to York yesterday and it was ridiculously busy so a much quieter day needed today!

Have a great day all!

garlictwist · 01/12/2024 09:50

I've just been swimming and walked home from the pool in the pouring rain so trying to get warm and dry.

Got to go to Aldi and do the food shop in a bit. DH is getting home from Spain later where he's been on holiday with a friend all week so looking forward to that.

Other than that I'll probably try catch up on some work (boring).

DilemmaDelilah · 01/12/2024 09:52

Good morning @lucysmam . I had planned to buy and put up our tree today, but we were in Lidl yesterday and they had low needle drop trees of a decent size for about £13.99 so we bought one there. We're having our carpets and sofa cleaned on Wednesday, so we won't put our tree up until next weekend, and it is sitting outside the back door in a bucket of water.

I had another lie in this morning and I've just had marmite on toast with a cup of tea and my usual shed-load of pills for breakfast in bed. I'm going to 'persuade' DH that he wants to get the Christmas decorations out of the under stairs cupboard later on so that we can sort out the ones we want to use on the trees this year. The fake tree is going in the dining room and I want that to be red and gold, so it's really just deciding what we want on the real tree really. I always give DH a nice decoration in his Christmas stocking so we have some good ones to choose from. He is in the 'more is more' school of decorating, and I am from the 'tasteful' school of decorating, so it isn't always easy! Luckily since we will have red and gold in the dining room the red flashy berry lights can go in there... so I may be able to have the tasteful little warm white lights on the tree in the living room.

I want to get the wreath on the door today, and I will write and stamp the Christmas cards ready to go in the post tomorrow. I don't send very many, just to favourite relatives I don't see at Christmas and to our adult children. I get them cards because I like to have a few cards up myself. If I am lucky I will have 5 or 6. I have quite a large stash of cards from where I have bought them in the January sales in previous years, but most of the nice ones have gone now and I didn't buy any last year as I wasn't well enough to shop, so I have bought some lovely cards from Whistlefish which I am going to use this year. Every year I tell myself I don't need any more.....

Other than that there is the usual laundry to do, and we are going to the Advent service at the cathedral at 6pm and then taking chorister grandson home afterwards. Corned beef salad with jacket potatoes for tea tonight, which we will end up having at about 8pm as we won't get home much before that. We usually eat around 6.30.

Love it! I definitely want to give it a try.
Looking forward to hearing about it on this lovely weekend thread.

Iamnotaloggrip · 01/12/2024 10:09

Morning all. Up early for a soggy park run now I’m shivering in a sports hall while DD runs around. Popping to town after for a few presents then home for a Christmas film. Roast later, then jungle when the kids are in bed. Must remember to do the elves as well!

JMAngel1 · 01/12/2024 10:33

Morning all - tree day here too - wry excited but just finishing my cappuccino in bed as feeling a little weary as had a wonderful night out with my best friend. Gorgeous restaurant full of instagrammer types and we had a ball watching them all being so self conscious/taking selfies. It’s sad really - everyone on their phones- no one talking to each other or appreciating the rather wonderful DJ. Me and my friend were the oldest in their by far but were loving the tunes and had a good giggle and a natter.

We surprised DDs this morning with their advent calendars - I treated them both to a beauty calendar as well as their requested Kinder ones so they were thrilled. Good to see they are still excited even though the elves are gone this year 😢

Now I have to make my Xmas cake, get decorations out with DH, put up tree whilst watching Elf and also decorate two extra small trees - one for kitchen and one for conservatory.

Then quick lunch and off to see Wicked - girls are soooo excited.

Feel like I’ve bitten off quite a lot today - need to get up now!!
