I'm just drinking my first cuppa of the day, in my kitchen spot, in almost silence. The washer's whirring away with towels in, but it's otherwise quiet 😊 I'm just going to sit for half an hour, then spring into action.

It's tree day here 🎄 & I'm so looking forward to it, and the other decorations, going up! The girls take the mick a bit but it's one of my favourite days of the year.

Before that though, I need to have a quick tidy round, wash a few pots, stick tonight's gammon in the slow cooker, take my tablets, and pack up a couple of things I've sold on Vinted to send later on. I've made enough for the train fare to Harrogate for the Christmas market, and food while we're there so I'm happy with that!

Tonight it'll be my usual Self-Care-Sunday scrubby everything shower, followed by an hour or two of crochet, then an early night 💤 ready for work tomorrow.

What about all of you? 🙂

Good morning @lucysmam et al, it’s piddling down here, such grey and dismal weather.
I did take the dog out early but she wasn’t particularly keen after two long walks yesterday so we took a shortcut.
I have prepared everything for dinner (chicken roast), spent a couple of hours faffing about with some needlework emptied a drawer out to tidy it and I will tackle the enormous wooden chest in the living room after I’ve had my coffee.
A real ‘suit myself’ day here, DH is sorting through papers he’s saved for something or another and the dog’s snoring on the sofa.
I’m intrigued by @Giggorata saying….I'm quite good at converting rubbish into things, (for example, the balls out of deodorant bottles make wonderful light shades.)!

JMAngel1 · 01/12/2024 10:35

@frozendaisy winter novels sound interesting - could you please post a list? Would love to get into something cosy and comforting.

ssd · 01/12/2024 10:37

Well done on making enough for your day in Harrogate @lucysmam , that's great, i love things like that.

Its wet and miserable here!!

weatherisjustmist · 01/12/2024 10:40

Washing is on as the sun is due out at midday and it's very mild (love a good washing day!)

Going for a walk then getting some shopping on the way back to make a chicken pie for dinner 😋

Shallysally · 01/12/2024 10:45

Good morning @lucysmam and everyone. Lazy start for me today. Having a second coffee before I empty the washer.
Going to sort through Christmas decorations, need to order new tree lights.
Next weekend is tree weekend, I’m a traditional girl and keep the decs up until 5th night.

It’s my friends birthday so going for a late pub lunch this afternoon, I am not staying for the drinking part after lunch though!

DP will be home from work when I get home. We will get sorted for work tomorrow and watch some TV.

NeedWineNow · 01/12/2024 10:47

Morning everyone. Me and DH are having toast and coffee in front of the telly before setting off in an hour or so to get to Chelsea for the footie. Glad we've got the early kick-off as it means we get home at a reasonable time. Venison sausages and mash for dinner tonight. We were in Oxfordshire for a few days this week and bought the sausages in a lovely deli/foodie shop - not cheap but we're hoping they taste as good as they look. We're recording Strictly so we can whizz though it in about 20 mins, and then I can tuck in for Wolf Hall with a Celebrations or 4!

Kim82 · 01/12/2024 10:56

Good morning everyone. I’ve woken up a little hungover for the second day in a row after ds23’s boyfriend came round last night asking for a wine and Christmas movie night. There was just the two of us and we drank too much wine whilst watching The Holiday and Last Christmas and nattered away. I didn’t get to bed til around 1.15am so had a lie in until around 8.45am and have just sat on the sofa drinking cups of tea provided by dh all morning. So in conclusion, Ds’s boyfriend is a terrible influence!

Anyway, despite the wine I remembered to set out the girls’ new Christmas jumpers, pjs and advent calendars before I went to bed so they were happy when they got up this morning.

Today we will be putting the outdoor Christmas lights up and dh also wants to go to The Range to pick up some more decorations for the new tree we’ve put up in the kitchen.

I need to do a bit of a tidy up today and iron uniforms and we’re having sausage, bacon, egg, etc for tea. Then it’s showers and a quiet night before bed. I’m also picking my brother up from his boss’ wedding in Manchester around 9pm tonight and giving him a lift home so need to remember to do that!

Soccermumamir · 01/12/2024 10:57

Morning everyone 🙂

I got to the Xmas Markets last Sunday so was over the moon lol Was out yesterday Xmas shopping with my mum. OH and DS1 have gone out for his football match and DS1's junior match kicks off later. I've spring cleaned all upstairs and just sitting down to a 3rd coffee before I spring clean downstairs ready foe the Xmas trees to make a guest appearance. Hope everyone has a lovely day 🙂☕️🎄🎅

Makelikeatreeandleaf · 01/12/2024 10:58

Good morning, wet and grey here. A man has just been to quote me for a new fence as mine blew down last week and has walked mud all through the house on the way out, so I'll be mopping the floors earlier than intended. A million things to do here - house is a tip, not that messy but everything needs a bloody good clean. I've got a huge pile of school work, beds need changing... Floor first!
No tree, mine goes up once school finishes. Strictly parts 1 and 2 tonight, gnocchi with roast veg for dinner and 🤞 an early night.

CarrotPencil · 01/12/2024 10:59

That peace sounds lush @lucysmam ! Always love your what are you doing threads 😁
To bed late last night, up early as DH’s lie in, cleaned the house and parents arrived a bit ago (early for them too as live hours away!). Out for a carvery later with the kids as not together for Xmas day. Nice! Tree next weekend for us xx

Thislittlekitten · 01/12/2024 11:14

Morning everyone.

Had a lovely lazy morning so far. Kids excited by the elfs arrival. Calendars opened and everyone in a good mood.
Just had a full cooked breakfast. Now about to go to a local garden centre as I love their Christmas shop.

After that walk the dog and finish the Christmas decorations. We dragged it all from the attic last night. Tree is decorated but all the other bits and bobs need fixed.

Meatballs for tea tonight. I always get myself a Christmas book to read in December. Going to start Richard Cole’s murder under the mistletoe. I love his books. Just a nice gentle read though it looks a bit shorter than I’d hoped.

lucysmam · 01/12/2024 11:21

@ssd I'm well pleased! There will likely be a bit more spent, but the money I've made will cover the most expensive bits of the day 😊

@CarrotPencil it's my favourite part of weekend days!

sounds good👍wish I could do that...which countryside may I ask?

Peridot1 · 01/12/2024 12:26

Afternoon all. A bit late for me. I’ve been up ages as had a call at 7am with my friends in Australia and NZ. Lovely natter.

It’s starting the Christmas decorations day here. I go a bit over the top and it takes ages. So after lunch we are starting by getting the boxes down from the loft which is a three person job. DH in the loft passing the boxes to DS on the step ladder and DS passes them to me. Every year I say I won’t go mad and yet every year I do. And I was in the US last month so I bought more! Our house has had a few changes since last Christmas so things will change up a bit. And I do two 8ft trees. Artificial sadly as I’m allergic to real ones. I don’t think I’ll start the trees today. Will maybe do one tomorrow.

I have also decided to put together the few Lego Christmas things I have and I bought a new one this year so I might build that in front of a Christmas movie later.

It was toast for breakfast hours ago and I’m about to have a salmon sandwich for lunch. Dinner will be beef ribs and mashed potatoes. Not sure what veg yet.

holjam · 01/12/2024 12:28

Just back from sons football training. We went to the shop for some nice buns on the way home so we're all sitting down now having a little treat.
Our Christmas tree and decorations are going up later-kids are so excited.
I have some laundry to get through and will be cooking a stew for dinner later.
Oh and getting the dog out for a walk at some stage also.

Chelsea26 · 01/12/2024 12:45

Afternoon all! Happy start-of-Christmas!

I’m just about to get in the shower.

Had coffee in bed this morning then DP made us a full English after my boys had been picked up by their dad.

He’s now gone to take his kids to hockey and then to their mum’s so I’ve whizzed around cleaning and tidying the downstairs including the floors with my new wonder machine that HOOVERS AND MOPS AT THE SAME TIME!! Absolute game changer!

We did the decorations on Friday evening when the kids got in from school - 2 7ft trees and other bits and pieces indoors, then we had a picky Christmas bits dinner and watched Home Alone which was lovely - teenagers insisting they’re never too old for Christmas Traditions 🥰 We run out of time for their Christmas Craft this weekend so that will be in a couple of weeks instead.

I’m going to watch Chelsea on the telly this afternoon and when DP gets back he’s cooking a roast so we’ll probably open a bottle of red or two and watch a crap (and therefore brilliant!) Hallmark movie.

Simonjt · 01/12/2024 13:20

Good afternoon, we stayed away from home last night so had a quiet and lazy child free morning, picked the kids up from dance class so it was nice not to miss that.

We’re having a fairly lazy sunday, its our sons turn to choose a film to watch while we have a snacky tea, I can guarantee he will choose the odd life of Timothy Green or Secondhand Lions. He’s currently in negotiation with Papa regarding the snacky tea, supposedly what hes asking for is his three year old sisters idea, yeah right.

Have a nice sunday all

MrsPeregrine · 01/12/2024 13:32

Just finished lunch. Then planning to take DD into town so she can choose a decoration to go on the tree for her and her brother. It’s our annual tradition. We visit a lovely gift shop in our town that sells. traditional style Christmas tree decorations. I normally take her for a cake from the bakery afterwards. Then we will walk home and decorate the tree. DH and I normally have a baileys when we all do the tree. We quite often play a game if we get time. Herd Mentality is our favourite one at the moment.

ToffeeNutLatteTime · 01/12/2024 13:44

Hi everyone. We had friends over last night and I was first to go downstairs this morning so I fed the cat, made a coffee, tidied up some leftover snacks and drinks (I secretly love the calm morning after a fun gathering and getting my home nice and clean again), then had my coffee on the sofa waiting for DH and our friends to appear. We headed out for brunch before they set off home and DH and I are now relaxing and pottering around the house. Tree day here too, we'll get the decorations out of the garage later, then order a take away and watch a Christmas film, to be decided which one.

gingercat02 · 01/12/2024 13:52

In the car to pick a 🎄
Sacked off my class this morning, so I had a lovely lie in.
Usual Sunday chores and then F1, ds is out to watch the footy so DH and I might have a treat tea and 🍷

LittleRedRidingHoody · 01/12/2024 14:03

Just getting home from an impromptu cinema trip to see Wicked (for the second time this weekend 😬 I'm a big fan and so is DS apparently!)

Having a low effort roast for late lunch and watching a Christmas movie. I have some birthday presents to wrap/cards to write and DS wants to build some Lego. We had lots of elf and advent excitement this morning - a certain elf also put the tree up and decorated last night - so a calm afternoon is going to be a nice treat!

Picked up some crumpets yesterday so very excited to munch them for a picky dinner tonight. Doubt we'll be very hungry but DS 'needs' something before bed which is a slippery slope for me 😂

Have a great afternoon everyone ☺️

Peridot1 · 01/12/2024 14:11

@ToffeeNutLatteTime - I love that getting the place sorted after we have had people over too! I take my time and do it in stages and love the calmness after.

@LittleRedRidingHoody - we never did the Elf but if I’d known they did the tree I might have! 😄

tackychristmas · 01/12/2024 14:11

Afternoon everyone. We’re putting our Christmas decs up, DH has spent all morning up the attic getting them down, we’re about to head out and pick our Christmas tree and then will spend the evening getting the decorations up.
So excited!!

UpUpUpU · 01/12/2024 14:16

I have been on nights so have just woken up. The plan today was to collect my son from him dads and then decorate the tree. It’s also the first anniversary of losing my mum today so want to raise a glass a light a candle for her.

However, I have woken up exhausted and flat and my son is apparently in a bad mood (guessing that’s as he doesn’t like being away from me) so may just chill tonight instead.

I have dragged said tree in (potted real tree) and it looks quite lovely with its new budded growth,

And the elves! I need to set up the bloody elves, he’ll be home in an hour so I better crack on!

Tarkan · 01/12/2024 14:18

Afternoon all!

I've only been up for around an hour and a half. 🙈 Insomnia hit me badly last night and I was still awake after 4am. I could hear a coastguard helicopter and when I checked I could see all the local lifeboats had been launched, there was a missing man locally so I was hoping it wasn't him. Thankfully it wasn't and he's been traced now but apparently a boat washed up on the beach last night so that explains the searches.

Today I'm just slowly tidying the kitchen as my body is still sore from my fall down the stairs and tonight I have a panto rehearsal.

My lovely new kitchen bin arrived yesterday, Joseph Joseph Totem max so I might get that set up with the bin bags and the odour filter etc today too.
