Very rarely am I near a big Waitrose anything worth buying?

I read on here the chicken is the best out of the supermarkets. I think I’ll do a chicken pasta tonight. I’m on the bus so won’t beable to carry much. Is there anything you would treat yourself with or is it all much of a muchness.

Well it depends on what you like! I would just have a wander and see what you fancy.

LittleRedRidingHoody · 27/11/2024 12:02

I love having a wonder around - they often have newer smaller brands before they go mainstream!

Also the fruit jellies (sweets) are my favourites!

Ceebeegee · 27/11/2024 12:03

I really like their pork schnitzel, not often stocked at other supermarkets apart from aldi but the waitrose one is soo much better.

TTPDTS · 27/11/2024 12:08

What's your fave sort of food?

They have lots of good cheeses, but also cupboard staples (like fab miso pastes!) that I don't often see elsewhere.

Definitely have a good wander about! I'm hungry thinking of snacks now 😂

Their posh sardines....OMG they are good. I was gutted when I moved away from Waitrose.

Own brand 90% chocolate.

It is next level. There is no alternative anywhere that I've managed to find. Lindt tastes like plastic by comparison.

hotchocdrinker · 27/11/2024 12:31

I love their own brand essential baked beans (nice thick sauce), own brand hoisin sauce, the No 1 chocolate is really good - I like the 49% milk chocolate (with or without feuilletine) but they are all good, the No 1 lasagne ready meal, and the own brand fresh pumpkin and pine nut ravioli (in the fridge) is delicious! I shop there (too) often...

InglouriousBasterd · 27/11/2024 12:34

They do these amazing cinnamon knots for Christmas, they melt in the mouth!

Imperrysmum · 27/11/2024 12:35

Their truffle and Parmesan chicken kievs! So yummy. Expensive tho!

Bumblingalon · 27/11/2024 12:36

Umami paste.

SomersetBrie · 27/11/2024 12:39

I always buy nduja, can't seem to get that in any other supermarket in my area.
They also have an excellent selection of frozen veg and herbs and spices.

Expensive though!

Shopgirl2 · 27/11/2024 12:42

Their organic whole, un-homoginised milk is the best, with the cream on top. The No. 1 milk chocolate is so good. The organic cream cheese is like no other, very good. The cheese selection is very good, their own-brand included, and they also do a nice nitrite-free bacon and delicious sausages.

BackOnTheAntibiotics · 27/11/2024 12:53

Their massive loose green lentils the size of chocolate buttons. I eat them neat or sprout them.

PinkArt · 27/11/2024 12:56

Their own brand coffee shortbread. I'm a bit obsessed with them. Their Christmas chocolate selection is usually pretty good too.

Sparklytori · 27/11/2024 12:59

The latest Lulu Guinness Shopping Bag! Only available at Waitrose

GodRestYouMerryGentlewench · 27/11/2024 13:04

Do you bake? I’ve been impressed with their range of flours and specifically with the quality of the spelt and rye flours. (I usually order from Hodmedods but was away from home recently and wandered into a store. Excellent results.)

Definitely the sardines above.

And both salted and unsalted cashew nuts.

(I miss their EV Olive oil in the old bottles so much now they’ve split from Ocado …)

Jinglingandmingling · 27/11/2024 13:09

Their almond croissants, cheese from the cheese counter, jars of tiny capers in salt, Pure (own brand) shampoo, and a free cup of coffee

reluctantbrit · 27/11/2024 13:11

We buy their No1 free range chicken but I also like the organic ones from Tesco, Sainsbury and M&S. They are just less available in our local stores hence us buying at Waitrose.

Their fruit and veg isle is good, definitely better than other stores.

More choice for staples for asian cooking. Their baking supply aisle is great, lots more choice.

Yes, this!

And the No.1 Medjool Dates, if you like dates.

Cottagecheeseisnotcheese · 27/11/2024 13:18

My DD says their own brand salt and. Vinegar crisps are better than walkers £1.25 for 6 bags x

Highbreadcount679 · 27/11/2024 13:19

I favour their mincemeat! Not as good as home made obviously, but good enough if you add a bit of lemon rind and some brandy. It hasn’t got that acid aftertaste that some of the cheaper brands have.

CrepuscularCritter · 27/11/2024 13:19

Their coronation chicken is good, and their dark chocolate covered ginger. Also the Keralan chicken fry.

ssd · 27/11/2024 13:20

Frozen soffrito

Daysnconfuddled · 27/11/2024 13:20

Oh, and their frozen breaded cod and fish fingers.

MrsJoanDanvers · 27/11/2024 13:24

Their slow cooked beef madras in the number 1 range. Best supermarket curry I’ve ever had. I also like the Keralan Fry. Smoked Red Leicester cheese. Blood oranges. Their Isle of Wight tomatoes. Salted capers.
