Do delivery drivers just not bother to even try ringing/knocking anymore?

They just seem to ring the doorbell and walk away. Just had £100 worth of trainers left on the doorstep in the rain. Immediately had an email through with picture of parcel on the doorstep in the rain. I'm clearly in, lights all on and cars in driveway. This was Evri but theyball seem to do it.
I know it's shitty weather and I'm sure it's a shitty job but it would have taken about 10 seconds longer to wait for me to answer the door.
Or should I just accept it and get a waterproof box for parcels to go in?

The lazy bastard ones do this, the normal ones knock and wait.

shellyleppard · 23/11/2024 16:32

Amazon are the worst..... they don't even knock just leave stuff by the front door. Royal mail on the other hand knocks so loud picture's fall off the wall 🤣🤣

Royal Mail don't seem to knock here either, but they will leave it round the side and put a note through the door. I'm here a lot of the time, I wish they would just try and see if I'm in first!

I am disabled and have a HUGE notice in CAPITAL LETTERS on my door saying that I am disabled, please give me time to get to the door, and I can't pick up parcels dumped on the ground. What do most of them do? Every time? Yes, dump it on the ground and are ten miles away before I get to the door. And I sodding well HAVE got a parcel box next to the door which is higher especially for me to get them out. If it's shitty weather and a shitty job, then sodding well get another one - don't take it out on the customers.

I have started doing "prove it" with some companies - your delivery note says it was handed to me so prove it, because otherwise I didn't get it.

I leave a plastic box out of expecting a parcel and raining, even though we have a porch area. I know the drivers have targets and I'd hate the pressure so try to make it easier for them. Obv this won't work if you are right on the road.

That's so rubbish, I'm sorry you have to deal with that. Not acceptable.

Not sure that I buy any "cheap shit". If that's what you but and get delivered fine - don't tar everyone with your brush.

ExplodingCarrots · 23/11/2024 16:37

DPD have been leaving my parcels on the doorstep here . It says on my delivery preference to leave them in my safe box which is literally 5 foot to the side of my front door but they're far too lazy to do that . They literally drop and run . If I get a delivery notification and see it's on the doorstep I message my neighbours to save it . I've found it's since Covid that delivery companies have just got lazy and don't give a shit .

Do you worry that your parcels will get stolen from it? We are set back from the road but have an open porch, I could put a box there.

I have a feeling @MashtagBrady is a delivery driver who leaves parcels on doorsteps

Amazon drivers for me don't even turn up half the time in the day they they should, let alone knock!
The times I've watched the tracking change from delivery between 2and 4, to 4 to 6, to 7 to 9 and then just not appear at all, with no more notifications.
Currently waiting for a parcel that should have been delivered yesterday, tracking has remained on "out for delivery "since last night and now supposedly coming before 9pm.
It's happened three times this month!

That is rubbish! Amazon are pretty good here in terms of being on time, but still leave parcels on the doorstep

For most of my parcels, I usually get a knock on the door and they wait for me. Sometimes they k lock and open my door and leave them I the vestibular which I like.
If I'm out they usually leave e things at the side of the house or at the back door, which is fine.
I've been lucky I haven't had any porch pirates take my stuff.

Boomer55 · 23/11/2024 16:51

I have trouble with Yodel, but all others are great.

Moier · 23/11/2024 16:51

Agree about Amazon. And then they say ‘parcel was handed to customer’ when it bloody wasn’t!

shellyleppard · 23/11/2024 16:53

@cindertoffeeapple i found one of mine two doors up 🫤

dixon86 · 23/11/2024 16:54

They've got two hundred drops to do a day. They can't wait

winterwarmerss · 23/11/2024 16:55

I think @MashtagBrady is just showing compassion to the drivers. OP aaked whether needed to find a solution and for those who do leave boxes out, maybe the drivers are too rushed / under pressure to read the delivery instructions.

It's a high pressured /target driven job with low pay and high turnover levels.

As @MashtagBrady said, if you're unhappy, arrange to collect in store or buy direct from shop. Whilst it's a pain, your item is usually covered if not delivered.

Delivery drivers get a lot of hate, but please remember their difficult work targets and conditions/targets.

Chocolategirl19791 · 23/11/2024 16:58

Just had a Yodel delivery of a big box from Smyths with over £100 of stuff - didn't even ring the bell and dumped and run. We're in Scotland so snow all around and wet. Only knew it was there thanks to the ring notification

MissAtomicBomb1 · 23/11/2024 16:58

Where do you stand if someone pinches the parcel?!
We have them left on our doorstep all the time but it's a fairly busy road so I'm just waiting for the day one disappears!
