Do delivery drivers just not bother to even try ringing/knocking anymore?

They just seem to ring the doorbell and walk away. Just had £100 worth of trainers left on the doorstep in the rain. Immediately had an email through with picture of parcel on the doorstep in the rain. I'm clearly in, lights all on and cars in driveway. This was Evri but theyball seem to do it.
I know it's shitty weather and I'm sure it's a shitty job but it would have taken about 10 seconds longer to wait for me to answer the door.
Or should I just accept it and get a waterproof box for parcels to go in?

So what are people's thoughts on a lidded box for parcels to be left in (assuming they bother to use it!) Is it just advertising that you have parcels in there? At least they would be out of the rain?

I don't in principle mind them leaving parcels on the doorstep. There's usually someone at home who can bring them in. I don't understand why on earth they can't knock the door before sloping off. How am I meant to guess they're there? They're usually not for me, so I don't get delivery notifications. They can see I don't have a Ring doorbell. I don't have any doorbell. I have a ruddy great door knocker that is apparently invisible to everyone except cold callers.

I have a storage box round the side for them to leave parcels in - but I also sell a lot online and couriers who dump parcels on doorsteps are the bane of my life. It really pisses me off when they upload a 'proof of delivery' photo of a sad looking parcel sat on the doorstep with a closed door....that's NOT PROOF OF DELIVERY 🤬🤬

Annoying fuckers.

I have one round the side of my house (near the bins) - never had a problem yet, but I suppose it depends on your area.

If you ask for parcels to be left and they're stolen I'm pretty sure the retailer has no responsibility to replace though. For big price items I'd arrange to collect them from a pick- up point.

Always. Evri is the worst. The other day they left my parcel on my doorstep then emailed a photo of a pile of parcels on a doorstep which, the map showed, was a few streets away. I was at home near the door the whole time, so would have heard had they bothered to knock.

I've got a porch door, so they put it in the porch and knock and go straight away. How I like it. The parcel can't be seen from the road as the door window is higher up

The company you ordered from is liable in these circumstances. Your contract is with them. They have a contract with the courier, so it is up to them to recoup the loss from them.
I once ordered a £600 camera. Had a card through my door saying that as I was out it had been left with a neighbour. The address bore no resemblance to anywhere nearby. I was sent a replacement camera. I do wonder what happened to the first one...

The delivery driver probably has it!

Going back a few years, I had a laptop beingd elivered by Amazon. For reasons I won't go into right now, I was in the house all day. About 4pm I got a notice from Amazon that it had been delivered and handed to me. I got straight on the phone with them to congratulate them on delivering the invisible laptop - not only did I have CCTV footage with no delivery driver right through the whole day, but it also showed the lovely pristine 6 feet of snow that had brought all traffic in the area to a standstill. It was literally impossible to get through!

GroovyChick87 · 24/11/2024 11:48

Yes I've noticed this. I've been sat in the front room and seen them doing it. I've also had them throwing things through the open window without trying the door first. Not great when I've got a dog who likes to jump and rip into on anything suspect.

This photo sums them up.

Ha ha, that's spot on - and I used to do Amazon deliveries. We got issued with plastic bags for keeping parcels dry, in wet weather.

Yes, I rather suspected the delivery driver in my case too 😔
The address he'd supposedly left it at is a side street close to my house. He'd allegedly left it at noumber 187...there are only 10 houses in that street!
Love the story of the pristine snow 😄

I am disabled and have a HUGE notice in CAPITAL LETTERS on my door saying that I am disabled, please give me time to get to the door, and I can't pick up
They don't read notices. My front door opens outwards, and I've got THREE stickers to that effect at varying heights on the door. No-one reads them.

HashtagShitShop · 24/11/2024 13:13

There is a large clearly visible even in the dark eye level sticker on my front door saying please place deliveries and parcels inside porch (so they're not held up essentially. There's always someone in 95 percent or the time) If they open the porch to do so there is a large a4 landscape sign asking them to leave the parcel there inside the porch and not open the second door as dogs run freely behind it.

Posties 90 percent not a problem, one or two van ones still knock/doorbell but the usual guy does as it asks.

Yodel knock without fail and don't use the doorbell as asked to.

Amazon it's 30/70 who can read and do as it asks and those who still knock. A large percentage of them don't use the doorbell as asked by another sticker too. Last week I watched one on cctv just stick a parcel behind my wheel bin and not even knock (I received the delivery notification and looked back.) one also opened the second door and tried to delivery it into the house and wondered why we freaked and grabbed for the barking and protective dogs who wanted to know who the strange man who just barged into the room was.
