Has anybody got a fire or logburner lit at home today?

I haven't as there's no provision for one in my modest home but it's certainly the right weather. Could we please see pictures? Thankyou.

i didn’t post mine because it’s such a mess 😆 as lovely as stoves are they’re bloody messy!

I know I didn’t even notice till I looked at that photo.
I don’t care really. The other fireplace has our filing everywhere, washing and books stacked up and sadly is still without a burner…..
Still in moving in mode after nearly 6years.
Im not proud. I’ll post a pic of that mess too 🤣🤣🤣

Same, same🤣

I’ve got another fireplace in my kitchen that has a lovely big arch in it and would look perfect with a stove but there’s a brick stuck in the chimney so we’ve never done it so now it’s just full of crap 🤣

@AutumnLeaves24 haha. It's true it's cosy when lit but the novelty factor wore off long ago. I've lived here 35 years and would love instant heat at the flick of a switch. Instead, you have to clean it out, lay some paper, carry in logs and sticks and light it. An hour later the room feels warmer. Three hours later you want to throw the windows open because you can't just turn it off.
I had a builders bag of logs delivered yesterday, plus some sticks. That was £110. We live in a tiny village amid farmland but, because everyone and his dog has a woodburner now, logs aren't cheap. I have half a tree taking up space in my garden but I can't use it yet because the logs have to sit there for a year or two to season.

The yellow is an interesting choice!!

🤮

what colour are you going to paint it??

We have a gorgeous soft stone colour.
Cant wait to get started with it! It’s such a beautiful room, it’s going to look amazing when it’s finished! ☺️

We should get together.
We have one in the kitchen. One of those big old ones that you could roast a cow on but there’s a whole in the chimney stack to outside and i can’t even give you a picture as we ve had boarding keeping the draft out since we moved in and the scaffolding holding it up has needed more scaffolding just to hold up the scaffolding 🤣🤣🤣
and here we sit on mumsnet 🤣🤣🤣

We had our gas pipe capped, so we can’t use it. We do put candles in there for aesthetics.

I’m technically cheating, but here’s a photo anyway!

Sadly mine is the Netflix screen log fire but it does crackle

@hattie43 I don't even have Netflix & I think my old 2man Philips wouldn't know what to do with a screen thing like that 😂. We have it on at my friends sometimes, but only lasts 2 minutes before one of them turns it over (turns it over 😂😂😂) to some noisy program!! 😢😂

GenerousGardener · 20/11/2024 16:37

My gas fire. Looks like a log burner.

No gas here either out in the sticks. I burn my own wood or sawdust pellets from the local joinery

Fire/house look lovely!!

your cat is gorgeous!!

Thank you! It’s a Victorian cast iron fireplace, which I got for £50 on FB marketplace (so it’s not original to my house). It does suits it perfectly mind!

The previous owners of my house ripped out the original Victorian fireplace, sadly. I’m glad I was able to re-instate it, though.

That's why I refuse to go onto a direct debit for my electricity. I'd be furious if they put up a DD on a random occurrence.

@Soupwithstring

its cheaper to be on a DD plan, it's easy enough (with British Gas anyway) to lower your DD again if something like this happens.

my only gripe with them is them refunding me, when I was building up credit for winter. They decided I didn't need to be in as much credit as I was. Grrr. Yes, I know I can just keep it in my bank & pay them when I need to, but I like knowing there's already extra money there so it's kind of pre paid heating 😂😂

JTRSOP · 20/11/2024 16:53

Just lighting mine right now 😊

Dog got a bit too hot!

Dog would be in danger of finding his bed occupied, by a human!! I'm less than 5ft...

TheCourtierTapsHisFan · 20/11/2024 17:03

I have asthma and live opposite a primary school so for my own and my community’s health I won’t have a real fire.
I do love the sound and the light that real fires generate so after extensive research have discovered this channel on You Tube which is the ultimate in fake tv real fires.

I like the real fire vids on Netflix but they only last an hour. These you tube ones go on for several hours and every now and then The Hand comes in and puts another log on the fire.

TV fake fire, my heated blanket and a good book and I’m very happy. No mess, pollution, tiny cost and I don’t have to clean up ashes the next day.

Honestly @AutumnLeaves24 when you struggle with a house that can’t get passed 12c you might think again. Last night I felt like using the cat to plug the holes in our single glazed “no you can’t change them or even reset them because its listed “ windows.

Edited

@StandingSideBySide

yep, used to live in G2 listed. Couldn't change the (lethal) cellar steps (ladder) despite it being a serious danger, they 'advised' not use it instead of allowing a sympathetic set of stairs ( well more like ladder with steps) to be put in by an experienced G2 craftsman.

& yes to no replacement of single gazing, despite qualified, G2 experienced tradesman (forget his title now)

I did say 'never again' to a listed house, but just an old one...

I hope your cat is ok!! 😂😂

We moved into our new house 2 years ago and only got around to finishing the sitting room last night. So for the first time ever tonight the stove will be lit 🙂

Ooh very exciting!! A photo once it's 🔥. Please!

Oh I have the filing & books... just not the fireplace! Hope you can get the burner sorted soon! It'll help you crack that 12°!!
