I'm going to cave and put the heating on, it's currently 14c in the lounge. We try not to put the heating on if home alone.

I'm wearing an oodie and have a blanket but my head and hands are freezing.

What temp is your lounge?

18 degrees. The heating went on at 4 and it will heat to 20 degrees. I would be utterly miserable if it was 14 in the house.

LizzieBennetsBonnet · 17/11/2024 16:33

18.5 (heating not on as it kicks in once it dips below 18). I have my oodie on and am a bit chilly but that's because I'm lying still, faffing on my phone. I'll soon warm up when I get up to make dinner!

Notcontent · 17/11/2024 16:34

14 is too low - not good for your health or the health of your house. I find that 18 is a good temperature to aim for.

CapaciousHandbag · 17/11/2024 16:35

17.9. Heating is on and set to 22 but it’s an old draughty house and the living room is the coldest room. Am contemplating putting on a fleece over my sweater.

Itcc · 17/11/2024 16:35

20.5c normally closer to 18 but not very well this year, could you not get a small electric radiator for the room your in when your home alone? So your not sitting freezing cold

bryceQ · 17/11/2024 16:36

Never drops below 20. I would be miserable at 14

Thevelvelletes · 17/11/2024 16:36

21 no heating on Ne Scotland.

EmeraldRoulette · 17/11/2024 16:36

20

I've been out all day so heating not on

I don't set my heating to come on as it's a new build so just switch on as and when...but 14? Yikes. It's been about 8 outside today.

mrspresents · 17/11/2024 16:36

22 I hate a cold house it makes me miserable

LostittoBostik · 17/11/2024 16:37

If my house goes below 17 I get extremely crotechty. I'm afraid I'd give up holidays and the car before I'd sit in 14 degrees. But I'm a naturally cold person. My DH is always morning about how warm it is but I'll ask him to touch my hands and he'll be shocked how cold I am in what he considers a decent temperature.

I keep hoping menopause (which I'm nearing) will warm me up a few degrees

ItsAllAboutTheBass7 · 17/11/2024 16:38

18.5. We are both laid up with heavy colds 😒

HappyNewYear2027 · 17/11/2024 16:39

19.5°c. We've had the heating on since about 9am

midgetastic · 17/11/2024 16:39

Living room is 20 , rest of house is cooler
Excellent insulation of a new build means this is cheap to run, and my asthma benefits from the lack of chill in the air I breath in

Heating is on now - automatic below 19 ( the way the house is zoned means 19 at the thermostat is 20 in the living room and 18 to 19 elsewhere

Dunk19 · 17/11/2024 16:40

Heating is now on, it rarely goes above 18c though. We have new double glazing and cavity wall insulation, it's just a very cold house but great in a heat wave!

only just got home but turned it on 30 minutes before we arrived back.

CaptainCabinetsTrappedInCabinets · 17/11/2024 16:44

Probably about 16 downstairs 14/15 upstairs. Need to close the windows and flick the heating on for an hour, my feet are cold.

IGuessIllbetheFirst · 17/11/2024 16:45

We live in old house which if we don’t keep to a reasonable temperature, then we end up with black mould growing which is both very unhealthy and expensive to get rid of. I tried to keep the temperature low for a whole winter but that was a big and expensive mistake. Now we keep the house not too cold and economise on food bills - completely cut back on takeaways and cafe lunches/coffees etc etc. Watch out that you don’t run the risk of mould if your house is old or poorly ventilated.

22 here aswell. Got a toddler who doesn't believe in blankets or too many layers so🤷🤣🤣🤣

susiedaisy1912 · 17/11/2024 16:47

18 without heating on, 21 with the heating on.

ThatCoralShark · 17/11/2024 16:51

Oh poor you that must be awful, that would feel so cold and to sit all wrapped up and freezing; it’s horrible what people have to do.

we have the wood burner on so are lucky as we are self sufficient in wood. So the living room is likely mid twenties it’s very warm. I lit it about lunch time.

I have thermometers in the rooms, and if the kitchen, the coldest room goes to 14 I put the heating on as the house will develop damp if not heated throughout the winter and humidity goes high. And as a pp said it is an expensive mistake to make. And it’s very bad for health.

it’s a balance really,

User1253S367484 · 17/11/2024 16:54

26 I’m drying clothes in front of the fire.

It was warmer until I opened the window.

MollyRover · 17/11/2024 16:56
  1. It's always 22. We have a heat pump, solar panels and underfloor heating. Have a 100 year old house so invested in retrofitting including new windows a couple of years ago. Definitely worth it, we'd probably spend the cost of the work on energy over 5 to 7 years if we hadn't done it. No gas and the electricity bill is about 80 per month. Just saving up for a new front door now!
Galatine · 17/11/2024 17:03

18c with no heating on. It just kicked in at 5pm and that should push it to the preset 20c.

WhichEllie · 17/11/2024 17:08

23 here. I was out with my horses before dawn when it was -2 so the first thing I did when I got home was put it on. Though thankfully I’d already defrosted thanks to the heated car seats.

Willsnbills · 17/11/2024 17:09

Flipping roasting! The fire is lighting and the heating is on!!
