Where is my friend? getting worried now

Friend coming to stay and said she'd be here about 11am so we could have lunch together. Still no sign of her.

Her DP just texted me about 2.45pm and asked if she'd got here safely as she wasn't answering texts and usually drops him a quick text after long drives to let him now she's turned up. He said she left at 9.30am which is right as it's about an hour and a half. I sent her a text about 12.30 along the lines of don't worry about running late I can hold lunch see you in a bit - no reply.

I've looked at her route on google maps - no traffic holdups that I can see. Not yet replied to her DP - will have to say she's not arrived... luckily he's not the type to panic but he will be concerned obviously.

talk me down I'm imagining all sorts of awful things. I wouldn't worry about an hour or even 2 hours at a push but 4 hours late with no communication is concerning especially as I know she left on time and she's usually really reliable give or take 20 minutes

@listsandbudgets so her partner says she left at 9.30am and the time to drive to OP is1.5 hours because she was expected there at 11am! why is her car or phone tracking to two hours ago from her house??? the number do not add up!! did she drive somewhere else?? did her hubby give any idea where the phone was last seen? town, forest, beach???

Edited

No, OP said the phone was last seen two hours AGO,
not two hours AWAY.

OP I’d be very worried too! I hope she’s alright. I don’t understand why there are people falling over themselves to be ‘suspicious’ about her DP based on the fact that he is a man, and nothing else.

Conniebygaslight · 16/11/2024 17:00

Very worrying OP, hope she’s ok.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 16/11/2024 16:58

When did you last speak to your friend on the phone, rather than via message, OP?

This is important to know also just incase something more sinister has happened

OswaldCobblepot · 16/11/2024 17:02

Now we'll get page after page of "any news OP?", "hope she's OK OP", armchair detectives offering their unique insight and people offering the same piece of advice that was on page 1 because they haven't bothered to read the thread.

allthemiddlechildrenoftheworld · 16/11/2024 17:02

I would be just calling the police anyway!

AtoB · 16/11/2024 17:03

It’s getting dark now so that is worrying. Where could she be?

I'm also confused by that, why on earth is it weird that he is 'so calm' ie taking action and driving out to where the tracker says the car is? What would be the 'normal' reaction then, sit at home and cry? Say 'ah I'm sure she ll turn up at some stage'?! His reaction seems normal to me
And why anyone's minds jumps first to his being a domestic abuser as opposed to her having been in an accident or broken down with a dead phone I don't know

Justyouwaitandseeagain · 16/11/2024 17:03

Hope all turns out ok OP x

It's because domestic crime is high and it's usually the man. Hopefully it's nothing and op friend is fine and theirs a simple explanation but surely you can understand why people are suspicious. It's unusual for people to make no contact when issues arise

And then occasional people like you, posting like they're just that bit smarter than everyone else here when actually they're place marking for updates too.

allthemiddlechildrenoftheworld · 16/11/2024 17:06

I dont know why people send messages when others are driving anyway! they are really not able to respond to a text or whatsapp when driving. even a call from messenger means digging in a bag for phone. why not just make a proper phone call using the number?

Not claiming to be smarter at all, just an observer of how these threads always go. Not placemarking either, I know how to use bookmarks.

No-one needs to post in order to watch a thread, so that's a bit of a leap.

Pandasnacks · 16/11/2024 17:08

@DanceMoveGrooveAndShoutIt not really, plenty of people don't realise how they can watch the thread. Or post anyway because why not?

There’s a tracker on her car?! How come he isn’t using that to find out where she is? And why is it on there?

Exactly what I was thinking. Rather strange.

PinkyFlamingo · 16/11/2024 17:09

Hopefully she's broken down and waiting for rescue services, is she a member of AA, RAC etc

Some folks cars will read messages out to them/turn speech to text.

Cerealkiller4U · 16/11/2024 16:46

I work for Search and rescue

this is incorrect. Do not wait. Whatever you do. So not wait

call the police asap. It’s a myth that you just wait but they can’t do anything without knowing about it

i would call the police asap. Call hospitals and anyone else. The quicker we can get out the better it is.

we use a bunch of statistics to help map out where to search erc

but you need to inform the police as soon as you start to worry.

Agree with this (DH in search and rescue too).

I don't think its strange to have trackers on cars and phones it's perfect for situations just like this.

OrchardBlack · 16/11/2024 17:13

OhOP, please update. X

It’s really not strange. I have an app on my phone that is connected to my car. I can use to start my car remotely (from the house to warm it up/defrost it) and i can see on a map exactly where the car is at all times. It also sends a message if i leave the car unlocked. I suppose lots of people must use similar?

Christwosheds · 16/11/2024 17:11

Agreed. I'm police and the ridiculous 24hr thing continues to perpetuate.

BigAnne · 16/11/2024 17:14

Hope it's good news.
