Do any deodorants actually work?!

I'm 3 months pp but this is a lifelong issue for me as I run hot - however it's particularly pronounced for me at the moment because said three month old only wants to be in the sling so my body heat has increased x 3. I will be perfectly clean and dry and odour free but within fifteen minutes of leaving the house and walking up the slight hill I have to climb to get my older son to school I'm boiling hot and sweating and my pits STINK. Yes I do wash properly, every day, with a bar of soap as well as shower gel, and yes I have had bloods etc done for hormone issues and nothing is out of whack.

I use Mitchum deodorant at the moment but it does zilch. Can anyone recommend something that works to curb the smell? It's driving me daft.

Are you using an antiperspirant or only a deodorant, OP? I find I need to use antiperspirant. I use Ego's QV Naked, their unscented antiperspirant.

frockandcrocs · 11/11/2024 21:41

I use Perspirex, and I am not exaggerating when I tell you that it has changed my life.

GirlInterrupt · 11/11/2024 21:43

Have you tried Triple Dry? It’s the only one I’ve found that works for me…..

My husband and step daughter use perspirex and both say it's the only one that works on them.

catsnore · 11/11/2024 22:04

Is the smell lying dormant in your clothes? It may be you need to hot wash everything. Bit of Napisan in the wash seems to help.

GameOfJones · 11/11/2024 22:10

Are you using roll on or spray? I find roll on works far, far better for me and lasts longer than the aerosol type ones. I use the Dove Men's one in the grey packaging and it's excellent....no smell at all.

OneAvidPanda · 11/11/2024 22:10

When showering do you scrub your pits etc with a washcloth or loofah type thing? Just swishing some soap on yourself might not be enough.

buffyspikefaith · 11/11/2024 22:11

I use the sure max, the cream one you apply at night and it's great

WiseOldPusscat · 11/11/2024 22:12

I’m not overly sweaty but my pits STINK - I got the coil and started sertraline around the same time and I’m pretty sure one of them is to blame but not sure which 🤣 Anyway I use a Mitchum roll on AND a Sure spray and that seems to do the trick.

bubonic · 11/11/2024 22:12

Are you hydrated? I find that if I down a pint of water then I hardly sweat (although do need to pee!)

buffyspikefaith · 11/11/2024 22:12

Oddly, I found things improved when I stopped the anti-perspirant and switched to deodorant. I sweat, but don’t have odour issues any more. I agree with others about washing clothes hot, and spraying vinegar under the arms of delicates you can’t wash hot. A bit of napisan, dettol or zoflora in the wash also helps.

Pepperama · 11/11/2024 22:17

I had that problem and it was actually a change in washing powder (from laundry liquid, and switching bio/non bio, can’t remember which way round just now) that seems to have made the most difference. None of the magic deodorants worked for me, but with the current washing powder and Nivea roll on, I don’t tend to smell even after a workout.

Rina66 · 11/11/2024 22:17

I use a solid Sure one, 72 hours, it's much better for me than Mitchum - I've used it for years, it was out of stock everywhere at the start of the Ukraine war, but it's back now.

Megababe space bar soap. It has a couple of exfoliating acids and really makes a difference. I wash with soap and a face cloth, then another wash with that bar. I've started using Vichy deodorant after reading about it on here but I have to dry it with a hairdryer before getting dressed otherwise it doesn't work. I've never been really sweaty but my sweat often smells, especially when I am premenstrual. Oddly I am having quite a lot of success with spray Sanex at the moment, even though they usually don't work as well as roll ons.

Mitchum changed a while ago (there were threads on here) and it doesn't work as well anymore sadly. Triple dry and the like made my underarms sore which I was disappointed about.

mynameiscalypso · 11/11/2024 22:19

Mitchum is rubbish these days. I've had most success from Dove.

loobylou10 · 11/11/2024 22:32

Can't recommend Fussy highly enough. It's a deodorant not an antiperspirant but totally brilliant.

Userxyd · 11/11/2024 22:40

Used to use Mitchum but now love Wild solid stick. All natural and I stay dry all day!

doodleschnoodle · 11/11/2024 22:42

I use Wild. I was very sceptical about it but it actually works very well.

Neveragain35 · 11/11/2024 22:45

Sure Max or Dove Max are the only deodorants I use, nothing else works for me. I tried Mitchum but hated it, it feels so sticky and doesn’t smell good.

minipie · 11/11/2024 22:47

Sure Max or Dove Max here too - switched after other deodorants stopped working.

NannyR · 11/11/2024 22:53

The standard antiperspirants like Mitchum, Sure Max, Nivea etc don't work for me either. I stink within a couple of hours even if I've showered and have a clean t-shirt.
What does work for me is washing with soap then rubbing a salt crystal deodorant stone on my wet armpits straight afterwards. It doesn't stop me sweating, but the salt stops bacteria growing and it's the bacteria reacting with sweat that causes the odour. It's that effective (for me at least) that even when I occasionally miss a daily shower, I still don't smell.

Joewickscarpet · 11/11/2024 23:50

Mitchum, but ONLY the solid one off Amazon. The spray is crap, as is the roll on

Maddy70 · 11/11/2024 23:52

Dove creme is the only one that works for me but is very tricky to get in the uk these days. If you see it stock up!

BadPeopleFan · 12/11/2024 06:25

I switched to sure max after mitchum stopped working.
Try adding laundry disinfectant to your wash to make sure your clothes are free of lingering bacteria.
