Do any deodorants actually work?!

I'm 3 months pp but this is a lifelong issue for me as I run hot - however it's particularly pronounced for me at the moment because said three month old only wants to be in the sling so my body heat has increased x 3. I will be perfectly clean and dry and odour free but within fifteen minutes of leaving the house and walking up the slight hill I have to climb to get my older son to school I'm boiling hot and sweating and my pits STINK. Yes I do wash properly, every day, with a bar of soap as well as shower gel, and yes I have had bloods etc done for hormone issues and nothing is out of whack.

I use Mitchum deodorant at the moment but it does zilch. Can anyone recommend something that works to curb the smell? It's driving me daft.

Driclor. Game changer.

Coconutter24 · 12/11/2024 06:31

I used to use Mitchum and it worked for a bit then all of a sudden didn’t so I tried dove maximum protection the roll on cream one. Been using got a couple of years as seems to be the only thing that works

Can't recommend Fussy highly enough. It's a deodorant not an antiperspirant but totally brilliant.

This worked brilliantly for me for 6 months - then it just stopped working and I was back to being soaking wet. I was so disappointed!

Not a deodorant as such but TCP can permeate an entire village hall within just a few minutes.

StarsBeneathMyFeet · 12/11/2024 06:54

Another vote for Perspirex. Apply at night (not within 24 hours of shaving, ouch!), wash off with soap in the morning. I still apply antiperspirant too. I use Sure Maximum protection too. Combination usually keeps things at bay. I’m contemplating Botox though.
I don’t wear polyester because it makes things worse. Mostly I wear cotton or rayon.

eatyeateat · 12/11/2024 06:54

The natural deodorant company for the smell. I stunk the whole time I breastfed (which was 2 years) and this was the only thing that stopped it. Was still sweaty but didn't smell.

GameOfJones · 12/11/2024 07:36

I agree with making sure clothes are properly washed too. I think with washing at lower temperatures or on quick washes smells can occasionally linger in clothes. I wash everything at 40 other than bedding/towels at 60 and on a long eco wash (3 hours) which uses more soaking. Usually with a capful of zoflora too if it's bedding or gym wear or anything particularly sweaty.

Hi, this issue doing my head in too. Currently Mitchum stick is working sporadically. The 72 hour ones worked for a while then made my pits hurt. Thought I had it cracked with the alum rock solid crystal jobby...reacted horribly to it after a week - raw pits!

I'm older than you, OP and think it's menopause related in my case. I've never been sweatsome or stinky before, so following this thread with great interest!

The standard antiperspirants like Mitchum, Sure Max, Nivea etc don't work for me either. I stink within a couple of hours even if I've showered and have a clean t-shirt.
What does work for me is washing with soap then rubbing a salt crystal deodorant stone on my wet armpits straight afterwards. It doesn't stop me sweating, but the salt stops bacteria growing and it's the bacteria reacting with sweat that causes the odour. It's that effective (for me at least) that even when I occasionally miss a daily shower, I still don't smell.

@NannyR please can I ask (in detail!) how you apply this? I have a Salt of the Earth crystal deodorant and it's not working that well for me! I'm wondering if I need to tweak my application method! I apply straight after showering to wet armpits, about 10 strokes up and down under each arm. Then let it dry a bit before dressing. Is that how you use it, or am I missing something? 🙂

Floralsofa · 16/11/2024 18:49

Peroxide wash under your pits in the shower then antiperspirant after. The smell is caused by bacteria and the peroxide kills it (doesn't stop the actual sweating mind)

I don't have a method as such. I just rub it on my wet armpits, maybe 8-10 strokes, same as you.

I use Perspirex, and I am not exaggerating when I tell you that it has changed my life.

Saaaame!

My mum spilled a bottle in a kitchen cupboard and we had TCP-tasting cereal for the next five years.

strangeandfamiliar · 16/11/2024 22:47

I used Perspirex for a few years but had to stop as it destroyed the underarms of so many clothes. I'm not sure why - but certain fabrics just disintegrated. If you do try it be prepared for it to itch like mad when you first start using it. I just use Dove Original roll on now and it is excellent - no smell, no white marks on clothes, and no itching - and no holes in my clothes!

Driclor. Game changer.

Was coming to say this. When I used to go to raves as a youngun this was the only thing that worked!

Dove creme is the only one that works for me but is very tricky to get in the uk these days. If you see it stock up!

Amazon 6 for just over £15

Mitcham... this was advised by my GP many years ago.
Never used anything else .
Dry as a bone

Put baby in a pram?

Justnippinginthegaragelove · 16/11/2024 23:18

I was like this, I'm not sure if the formulas changed, but sure and Mitchum just stopped working. I started using fussy and can't believe how well it works! It doesn't stop the sweating, but there is absolutely no smell. Even by the evening on a hot summers day!

Westofeasttoday · 16/11/2024 23:24

No nothing in the UK really works. You should see the groups of ex pats who complain about this often 😂. Secret antiperspirant/ deodorant on Amazon. I use the Powder Fresh one. Works great for me. Maybe search on these groups and buy on Amazon for the best one.

CareerChange24 · 16/11/2024 23:34

Try the ordinary’s glycolic acid toner every other night then deodorant on top

ColonelRhubarbBikini · 16/11/2024 23:49

Echoing a couple of PP that say glycolic acid on your pits and then at a different time Driclor or Anhydrol Forte deodorant.

Hibiscrub is also good for washing with to eliminate odour.

A family member suffered horribly with hyperhidrosis and the Anhydrol Forte is the only thing that worked for them.

caringcarer · 17/11/2024 00:24

Sure spray is good. I used Dove dry roll on and that seems to do the trick but I use Sure if I'm going to the gym.

KimberleyClark · 17/11/2024 00:30

Fussy works for me.
