Do any deodorants actually work?!

I'm 3 months pp but this is a lifelong issue for me as I run hot - however it's particularly pronounced for me at the moment because said three month old only wants to be in the sling so my body heat has increased x 3. I will be perfectly clean and dry and odour free but within fifteen minutes of leaving the house and walking up the slight hill I have to climb to get my older son to school I'm boiling hot and sweating and my pits STINK. Yes I do wash properly, every day, with a bar of soap as well as shower gel, and yes I have had bloods etc done for hormone issues and nothing is out of whack.

I use Mitchum deodorant at the moment but it does zilch. Can anyone recommend something that works to curb the smell? It's driving me daft.

I blame hormones, mine have always been wonky as has my sweating, when I had babies and now I'm peri I can start to smell too. I used anhydrol forte too and it was very good, but never on wet or newly shaven skin. I used before bed, it's good for a few days though

JanetSnakeholeMacklin · 17/11/2024 05:02

I love fussy deodorant. It's the only one I've found that never ever lets me smell!

renomeno · 17/11/2024 05:29

Highly recommend washing pits with Hibiscrub once a week (or every other day initially) and using Salt of the Earth spray. Personally I don't antiperspirants are very healthy for the body, Salt of the Earth still allows you to sweat but with no odour.

It's your PP hormones. (Blood tests for hormones are largely inaccurate. They only take a snapshot of the moment bloods were draw, and female hormones not only fluctuate daily, but monthly too.)

I suffered similarly during a premature menopause and it was always indicative that my hormones had shifted/my hrt needed rebalancing.

Your hormones will settle with time. In the interim, use an exfoliating scrub or glove on your armpits each and ever time you wash, and after a proper antibacterial soap. Because I ran hot, I found a lot of deodorants didn't dry properly and got a fungal infection.

Ensure your clothes are clean by washing in as hot a wash as possible. All that said, you'll be far more aware of any odour than anyone else and it's probably nowhere near as bad as you think - you're just more aware of it because it's you.

Mitchum but only the gel
Otherwise Botox but depends his bad it is
My DS aged 21 now has Botox in his armpits twice a year as his sweating was so bad it was affecting his daily life.
He tried prescribed medication which worked but made his whole body so dry he couldn't even pee
Botox has been life changing for him

I use fussy but I could go without if needed due to diet. What I’ve found is since ditching dairy, most meat and eating very little processed food and eating tonnes of fruit/veg I don’t smell anyway. The minute I have a couple of days of heavy meat and dairy diet my pits smell again. Try it!!

Sinus problem? I'm recovering from a bit of a head cold and everything smells sweaty to me and tastes off.

tealandteal · 17/11/2024 07:28

I used to use Mitchum but found I smelt awful. I have used the much stronger ones like Triple Dry where you put a bit on at night but my skin is so sensitive post babies. I use Wild now and find it works very well, and I like being able to change scents regularly.

Teentitansgo · 17/11/2024 07:28

Another vote for Fussy.

Honestly get some Driclor. Or Perspirex but I think Driclor works a bit better.

I use it twice a month in summer and once a month in winter.

Yes it might itch or burn the first time, but read the instructions and use it properly.

And I'm in a hot country. Is was 30 degrees yesterday and I was out and about. Pits were bone dry.

I will not waste money trying out things that might work, when I can get something that just does work.

You can use any normal deo daily, but tbh that is just out of habit and for the scent.

EvilMama · 17/11/2024 07:41

Perspirex or Driclor once a week at night and sure max during the day.
Only wear cotton or merino T-shirts and never, ever polyester.

to add: agree with op who said Driclor is better but I can't always get hold of it.

LilacLilyBird · 17/11/2024 07:42

I was ajways happy with the Mitchum stick but nowadays not so much

I've been trying out Sure non stop protection 72 hours which is successful so far

I'm not a huge fan of waiting for roll ons to dry but a hairdryer speeds up the process

I use bar soap under my pits and then shaving seems to help

IveGotToGoToMeDads · 17/11/2024 07:42

vaseline intensive care is a one that works for me. Really recommend it x

This is good to know.

I heard that Botox helps but have never really looked into it far enough.

okydokethen · 17/11/2024 07:46

Driclor is life changing- just never ever use on days you shave pits.

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 17/11/2024 08:45

Driclor changed my life.

autienotnaughty · 17/11/2024 12:05

Triple dry is the only one that works for me

Jadeleigh196 · 17/11/2024 13:01

Honestly I don't recall my post partum smell going for quite some time, particularly as was breastfeeding. It started to calm down around 6 months PP. I also use natural deodorant now which works perfectly as someone who has always had issues with sweating and smell. I honestly think that you have to give your body time to detoxify from the trapped sweat and crap that aluminum deodorants cause. It might be worth giving it a go. I use wild deodorant.

Lots on Amazon

I don't know if this is the usual price as seems very costly

But guess if works it's worth it

Not sure about that one as I use the perspirex, but even that is £10 for the tiniest roll on- but mine lasted nearly 8months, so I'd say worth it!

NannyR · 16/11/2024 22:24

I don't have a method as such. I just rub it on my wet armpits, maybe 8-10 strokes, same as you.

Thanks for your reply @NannyR I think I may have cracked it! I've been letting it dry under my arms for a bit longer rather than getting dressed straight away. I suspect the deodorant was not working as it was getting wiped off on my top before it dried!
