How do you dry towels in the bathroom without anywhere to hang them?

Bad title maybe.

I have underfloor heating in the bathroom. Nice and cosy, but this means there are no radiators/ towel rails to dry towels on. I need a solution!

The walls are tiled and I’m slightly loathe to drill into them. I need to be able to dry 4 bath sheets daily. Help!

I hang my damp towels on a hook on the back of my bedroom door. They always dry well there.

In our old house we had a freestanding wooden towel airer in the bathroom, worked well

On radiators in other rooms.
If only slightly damp or it's summer just draped over the shower screens.

Sorry if it's suggested upthread, but wooden towel ladders look nicer than drying racks, imo. You can get them for under £20 up to a bit more for solid wood ones, depending on your budget!

Smaller towels.

I know you said bath sheets are "a little bit of luxury" and it's cold where you live but getting dried takes 30 seconds, and then hours to dry 4 massive bath sheets. The math ain't mathing.

No because if you only use small towels you'll need to get a towelling bath robe and then that will take time to dry. My bath sheets cancel the need for a robe.

Although this may create yet more drying, those microfibre hair towels are great and really easy to dry. Using those on your hair makes the normal towel less wet 😆. My dd gets through lots of them.

I have some microfibre things, but I won't buy more. They leach plastic into the water system.

Our bath sheets live on a clothes horse on the landing when they are not being used or in the wash. They are always dry in time for the next shower.

candycane222 · 11/11/2024 16:09

Over the banister here, when the heating isn't on or towel rail already full - but make sure you are ventilating the house properly. (Same applies if drying anywhere (even on a heated rail) , without continuous extract in fact)

Most of these posts seem to be assuming "dry after a wash", but I thought the OP meant "dry after using". We have a towel ladder. It is from La Redoute and it is most like this one but has more shelves:

Not necessarily - I use a smaller towel to dry myself after a shower and then, once I'm dry I put on a normal fleece dressing gown. I get dried as soon as I get out of the shower though - I don't need to wrap myself in something and drip dry.

Over the shower or baths shower rail

I’ve tried hooks, but the towels aren’t opened out, so don’t really dry, plus the wall behind becomes bad.

Can you use bathrobes instead. I get into bathrobe after my shower and once I am dry I hang it on a hook. It is always dry by the following morning.

We just wash them after each use and tumble dry them. I hate damp towels hanging around.

So you do a wash every day just for towels or do you use small towels?

Grammarnut · 11/11/2024 18:34

You could try a free-standing towel rail which doesn't need fitting (and can be moved elsewhere if you like).

That's the difference then. You don't body lotion or creams I suppose. Those of us with dry skin need time for oils and creams to sink in.

This is just really wasteful and not really the solution.

Yes it really is.

I wash my bathrobe once a week and that is too much effort for me.

I couldn't imagine washing towels every day. I don't make extra work for myself.

Definitely dry after using. Interesting how many imperfect solutions there are - I am maybe looking for an ideal solution where there is none.

Your best solution is to get an electrically heated towel rail installed, a nice large one that can fit most towels. And put it on a timer.

Zonder · 11/11/2024 22:28

In surprised how many people try to dry lots of towels in the bathroom. Don't you wear the towel back to your bedroom?

QuickDraining · 11/11/2024 22:35

If you have four large towels to dry, you and yours might want to learn how to dry more efficiently. As Victor Meldrew once said you can dry yourself pretty much with a flannel.

MrsSkylerWhite · 10/11/2024 14:08

Ok, probably a stupid answer. Put them on the floor?

Actually, I too, first thought that!
Not that it is doable, but it would dry them wouldn't it? 😂
I live where the sunshines 350 days a year and the average humidity is 20-25%; often only 15%. Towels dry before you hang them up!

Chocolateporridge · 11/11/2024 23:24

We have huge suction hooks from IKEA and then after everyone has had a shower we put a small dehumidifier in the bathroom, plugged into the hallway, with the cable under the door. Dries the towels plus cuts down the wet air and mould.

No we don’t use small towels. We do at least 2 loads of washing every day, often more. We all play sport/run/gym and also have lots of animals so lots of washing here.
