How do you dry towels in the bathroom without anywhere to hang them?

Bad title maybe.

I have underfloor heating in the bathroom. Nice and cosy, but this means there are no radiators/ towel rails to dry towels on. I need a solution!

The walls are tiled and I’m slightly loathe to drill into them. I need to be able to dry 4 bath sheets daily. Help!

Ikea have a really good extendable suction cup towel rail that sticks well to tiles. It’s not pretty, but you can hang the towel flat and it dries better than bunched up on a hook.

Heated drying rack, fixed towel rail on wall, or just a clothes horse? Or do what I do and put them over banister/hang on doors etc!

Over the banister
Over the shower rail if you have one
On those "over the door" rails
On a stand alone towel rail or two
Over the back of the kitchen chairs/stools

Or use paper towels. 😊

Not a good idea to hang large, damp towels over kitchen chairs, they may warp or become mouldy. Drying over radiators is frowned on too.
A rack attached to the door, a freestanding airer or a heated towel rail are the only answers imo.

I dry mine over the bannister

Quercus30 · 10/11/2024 15:13

Get a dehumidifier. Hang towels on an airer near dehumidifier. Cheaper to run than heating, will dry your towels faster and you'll have no damp issues. I leave mine switched on all day whilst I'm out. Once it's full of water, it switches itself off.

unsync · 10/11/2024 15:13

One of these? Not cheap though. https://www.josephjoseph.com/products/eclipse-3-tier-clothes-airer-with-screen-ecru?_gl

For when you sort your heating out, I have a dual towel radiator in my bathroom, it's plumbed into the wet heating system for winter, but also runs off electricity with a timeswitch in the summer. It's a very satisfactory solution.

Thank you for the ideas, but I would rather not have towels drying around the house. I’d like to keep them in the bathroom if at all possible.

Mine are hung over the door or put in the tumbler. I summer they go one the line.

TheWittyBird · 10/11/2024 15:20

We have a dehumidifier a small one but very good I hand the bedsheet over the banister too

Doesn’t do your banister much good if it’s wood!

Zonder · 10/11/2024 15:23

Everyone takes their towel back to their bedroom where they get dressed and hang their towel up there.

Do you actually need bath sheets sized towels? They are huge! I use hand towels from IKEA which are slightly larger than standard hand towels but they are the perfect size to get dried off with after a shower and because they are smaller sized, they dry quickly on a hook on the back of a door.

It’s a little bit of luxury ☺️ Where I live, it’s cold in the winter. Getting them dried is not a luxury!

Over the bannister. I also hang jumpers, jeans, etc, over the bannister for drying. It may take a couple of days but it beats running the t/dryer which only gets used for smalls, etc as well as towels when they get washed (once a week).

Even with a heated towel rail you wouldn’t get 4 bath sheets to dry every day as the towels would need to be folded up to fit and wouldn’t dry.

I think 4 wall hooks is your best bet (stick on as pp says) although you’ll need to keep the room warm for several hours - using radiators in other rooms might be more cost effective if they are on anyway

Depends on the size!
Mine is tall but narrow, it has four rungs, perfect for 4 bath sheets and I sneak the hand towel on there overnight
Ps mine dry fine folded

RobinHood19 · 10/11/2024 15:32

Stick-on wall hooks are amazing. I use bath towels and have had them in my last 2 houses (currently have an over-the-door rack, and I actually miss the hooks).

I used to hung my bath towel off one and my hair towel (hand-sized) off another. But if you had a large enough section of wall empty, you could hang 2 for each person, if you want them to spread out a bit flatter?

The stick-ons are really incredible on tile, cost about £1-2 per piece, and come off within seconds if you ever want to change the design or move etc.

Sounds like ventilation problem.

How long does extractor fan stay on??

We leave ours on for a bit post-showers to help dry the room out in winter.

We have a dehumidifier in the bathroom (fan is only on when the light is on). There are no windows (internal room), so it’s important to keep the humidity down. The towels dry well if folded in half and flat, but not otherwise. I had a 4 arm drier (like wide hooks), but it broke and I can’t find anything to replace it.

No airing cupboard?
Smaller towels.

You can get extractor fans that stay on for a further 15 minutes, after the light is off
mine also looks like,a spotlight.
Walls are bone dry after

ComfortandHappiness · 10/11/2024 15:43

To be clear, it’s the towels that we use to dry ourselves off I want to dry ready for the next use.

Just drill into the walls. Get over the fear of doing that. In summer you won't have the underfloor heating on as damp towels still take ages to dry in summer if not hung out

Ideally i would get an electric towel radiator so in summer you have it in a timer that turns it on for an hour a day and gets towels completely bone dry without heating the room up

downwindofyou · 10/11/2024 15:47

Something like this that will comfortably hold all the towels.

It may seem like a faff but if you are planing to live there a while it's so much better to just get it sorted properly rather than struggle with makeshift ideas
