Even if you only believe half of what Gaetz has bragged about with videos on his phone in congress
he will NEVER get through confirmation

PS Self driving cars are NOT going to be a thing outside cities.
Show me one that can cope with ZigZag Hill with leaves and a white van coming the other way
also AI : Until an AI can climb the stairs, carrying laundry, picking up lego with the other hand during a power cut .....

Oh, AI will never do that! That is the kind of work that is very hard to replace. Likewise caring for children, old people etc which is very hard to automate or make more efficient without removing its purpose. Thats why it has no value and is just boring, unskilled work that women should do for free.

SerendipityJane · 14/11/2024 21:02

Ubers business model would enable an enterprising person with capital to purchase several self driving cars for example and set up their own business hiring these cars out on the Uber app.

AirBnB and properties. Already happened.

SerendipityJane · 14/11/2024 21:04

He shall now be referred to again as "SCROTUS" (So Called Ruler of the United States)

I take it the passing resemblance to "scrotum" was unintentional 😉

BREAKING: Donald Trump has chosen Robert F Kennedy Jr as his new health secretary, according to the president-elect's son.

The world's gone mad

He’s nominated RFK for Health Secretary.

borntobequiet · 14/11/2024 21:40

I wonder what on earth the medical and pharmaceutical sectors will make of that.

If it helps, most of the UK have never had fluorine added to the water and our teeth are famously fine. So that's one less thing for Americans to worry about at least. 🤓

BustingBaoBun · 14/11/2024 21:49

Isn't RFK an anti-vaxxer though?

Eyesopenwideawake · 14/11/2024 21:53

Whilst I've chosen to find all this shit very amusing I do feel very sorry for the people for whom it's a living nightmare. It's not going to get better for a long time.

I mean yeah, Americans do have to worry about that! (Also as a non American I am moderately worried about the consequences should for example avian flu break out in America while he is at the helm). Ah well...

Will Melania be FLAPS?

I live next door to an airbnb

when I see robots doing the 4 hour bedding switch over three times a week
rather than the owner
I'll believe it

He’s nominated RFK for Health Secretary.

Now this one has me freaking. There is all sorts of hell he can create. HHS is a HUGE agency that has regulatory fingers in lots of pies. Not the least is Medicare and Medicaid, not to mention regulating the Health Insurance industry AND Obamacare ('the Marketplace') and CHIP (children's insurance for the needy). Oh yes, and the Office of Climate Change and Health Equity. This is an appointment that could have far reaching effects.

So this isn't about fluoride and vaccines. Those could be the least of our problems.

AcrossthePond55 · 14/11/2024 22:25

@JoshLymanSwagger

FLAPS it is!!!

Love it.

Talkinpeace · 14/11/2024 22:35

@AcrossthePond55
a long time ago RFK wrote a book called the River Keepers about restoring the Hudson.
It was wonderful
since then he has vanished up his own fundament

He would probably be OK on environmental stuff. Health and vaccines etc are a whole other issue. Dunning kruger.

AcrossthePond55 · 14/11/2024 22:45

@Talkinpeace Yes, at one time we would have been applauding this nomination.

@biscuitandcake Trump's administration (including himself) will be one HUGE Dunning Kruger. And we'll all pay the price for it one way or another. I keep trying to remember that most things will be 'fixable'. I just try not to dwell on how long they'll take to fix!

CaveMum · 15/11/2024 05:44

Trouble in paradise already?

BBC reporting they at last night’s event in Florida, it appears that Elon Musk is still hanging out at Mar a Lago and that Trump had joked that he can’t get rid of him.

As Trump is known for saying the quiet part out loud, could the honeymoon be over already?

I also see that there’s rumours that Lara, Eric’s wife, might be lined up to contest Rubio’s Senate seat.

BustingBaoBun · 15/11/2024 07:18

I read that the slightly more sane republicans were getting totally pissed off with musk's presence at MaraLardo. They are trying to put plans in place and he is always hanging around and won't leave Trump's side. I read a tweet from musk yesterday and it was almost as if he imagined himself as the president?!

I want trump to get fed up with him, musk to turn and start bleating about it

Zonder · 15/11/2024 07:31

You can just imagine Trump making louder and stronger comments about Musk and Musk still being completely oblivious.

Notonthestairs · 15/11/2024 07:35

"Even if you only believe half of what Gaetz has bragged about with videos on his phone in congress

Surely that is the point?
How better to illustrate that the swamp riddled establishment is against Trump and therefore the electorate?

Never mind that Gaetz is unfit for office.

CaveMum · 15/11/2024 07:38

Is it just me or is it starting to feel like we’re living in a Super Villain origin story - highly intelligent, multi-billionaire gets close to power and then once he’s no longer useful is cast aside?

The tantrums (on both sides) are going to be epic!

Spandauer · 15/11/2024 08:49

And I predict that the SC will back him all the way.

(Reading this made me think of B Johnson and his little bit of prorogation)

...Trump may have another avenue to try to bypass the Senate, experts say, one that dramatically departs from historical norms. Rather than wait for Congress to adjourn, as presidents have done, he could try to instruct them to leave for the sole purpose of installing his nominees without their consent.
Edward Whelan, a prominent conservative scholar, wrote in an op-ed published in The Washington Post on Thursday that he has heard the Trump team is considering using an obscure constitutional provision that gives the president the power to adjourn Congress if the House and the Senate cannot agree on the timing of an adjournment. No president has ever used that authority.

Whelan wrote that late Supreme Court justice Antonin Scalia, a strict constitutionalist, “would be aghast at the notion that a president could create an intrasession recess for the purpose of bypassing the Senate approval process for nominations.”

He urged House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana) to block any such plan. The Trump transition team did not respond to a request for comment. (Washington Post)

Another great TRIP US this morning. They think if the Senate don’t make recess appointments then there’s no way the likes of Gaetz and Gabbard get confirmed.

Katty Kay also said that this DOGE won’t even get off the ground as the hoops that need to be jumped through to set up new departments are too complex.

Mooch thinks Musk is already on his way out and he’ll be campaigning for the Democrats in 4 years time.
