@derxa Exactly. My initial question was about that the openly proudly racist end of MAGA make of her

My assumption is that Vance is not expecting Trump to last the four years.
A Hindu first lady would be quite a shock for the rednecks.

I’m sorry. I can’t put myself inside of maga republicans.

Not all racism is equal ...

I suspect a lot of MAGA folk will have much less problem with a "brown" than a "black" skinned person. It's just the US history.

I am writing this in the UK which has a very similar approach to race as it does class. Replete with what offensive word to use to who. This was what John Cleese was exploring in the episode of Fawlty Towers that has since been tweaked to allow us to pretend it never happened. Much like persecuting homosexuals which also never happened.

What do the racist end of the MAGAs make of Mrs Vance ?

They believe that just as Jesus has 'washed them clean of sin' so does believing in Trump 'wash you clean of 'otherness'. At least for now.

There are Black, Latino, Asian, and 'others who are not white' in the MAGA cult. IMHO they'll be the first to go if 'the revolution' they all preach about comes. After all, the 'true' white MAGAs already know where they live.

Is it 1933 again ?

One source remembers that "the biggest jaw dropper was after the Salisbury attacks", when two Russian agents used the nerve agent Novichok on the streets of the UK. President Trump was at Chequers with then-PM Theresa May and her team, and seemed reluctant to take the attack as seriously as the UK was demanding.
One of those present explains: "We were arguing about how bad and destabilising that was – he asked why. We said a state with nuclear weapons had used this on the soil of another state with nukes, and he said, 'I didn't know the UK had nuclear weapons.'"

"Those who do not remember the past are condemned to repeat it."
(George Santayana, The Life of Reason, 1905)

DH's exBBF, and a staunch MAGA, used to 'preach the revolution' constantly. It's very closely tied to white supremacy. There were an awful lot of what 'them', 'those', and 'they' were taking from 'us' in his rantings.

I don't know if things would ever rise to 'Hitlerian levels' with extermination camps. But I can certainly see 'exclusionary' acts & laws coming to pass. And it seems to me that his desire for 'mass deportations' of people from certain countries is nothing but a pogrom. I doubt very much if we're going to see huge numbers of Europeans or Canadians being shoved into buses and vans in targeted raids.

Talkinpeace · 18/01/2025 21:23

White people are ex pats
Brown people are economic migrants

I look and sound British so LOVE calling out the racists ranting about "forriners"

Scrotus is a chicken shit, yellow bellied, gutless, cowardly custard. We all knew this already, but it's nice of him to provide more evidence.

You won't get around him with flattery. Grin

PerkingFaintly · 19/01/2025 09:36

Apparently Johnson did.

That same BBC article says Johnson would flatter Trump obsequiously to get what he wanted, while staff next door listening in were crying with laughter.

Meanwhile conversations between Trump and May were entirely different, with "more than a whiff of misogyny, he would shout over her". Trump would try to talk about the Queen or invite May to play golf, rather than address whatever serious topic May was trying to discuss.

Zonder · 19/01/2025 09:47

@PerkingFaintly and here they go with another 4 years of that!

DuncinToffee · 19/01/2025 10:06

This is funny, the grift of maga

"tickets are now commemorative". frame the $500 ticket and pretend you were there

AcrossthePond55 · 19/01/2025 15:14

So, no refunds? I hope that was in the fine print.

Although TBH a 'true MAGAt' will be happy to lose $500 'for the cause'. Because any money that hasn't already been spent or is returned to the committee will be put directly in Scrotus' pocket.

Another grift.

It's going to be wall-to-wall Trump today/week (obvs!) so I will have to sit on my hands and not doom scroll. I can't decide if I'll ignore the inauguration completely or maybe sneak a look at the 'highlights' afterwards. I'm curious from a procedural POV as it's being held in the Capitol Rotunda, so will be interesting to see the arrangements. Maybe DH can relay it all to me via interpretive dance so I don't have to look at the 🍊💩.

Agreed. It really brings home how utterly spineless so many Republicans were in not bringing Trump to account. If they had done their job we would not be here now.

CaveMum · 20/01/2025 10:36

I see also that a bonus episode of The Coming Storm has dropped on BBC Sounds. I nearly listened to it in bed last night but decided it would either give me nightmares or keep me me awake all night worrying!
