I saw someone post on Bluesky that if he ends birthright citizenship that would impact Barron! I'm assuming that's not actually accurate but it certainly shows the hypocrisy, as does him bringing Melania's parents over to the US.

BustingBaoBun · 09/12/2024 16:00

I watched a bit of his interview and it brought it all home to me about how ANNOYING I remember him to be. A horrible reminder actually.

Seeing him attempting to manhandle Macron at Notre Dame was enough to raise my BP. That manly jerking grabbing handshake arghhhh (not manly at all, he looked deranged)

Surely amending the 14th amendment takes an amendment ? And they ain't quick.

The only comforting thing is that he has no idea how any of this works, is surrounding himself with idiots who also don't know how it works, and is unlikely to be able to get some of his more horrible ideas carried out.

Unfortunately I think he'll probably still be able to do plenty of damage before his term is up (not that I think he'll finish it).

Well, you can only assume that SCOTUS agree. It already seems like that have some ideas that the constitution is "mistaken"

From what I understand of the proposal that would only apply if Melania was illegal herself? Something they're not telling us?!

AcrossthePond55 · 10/12/2024 01:18

Barron is the son of a US citizen (SCROTUS), born 'in wedlock' so his own citizenship at birth would derive from that, not from Melania. If they'd not been married at the time of his birth it gets a little more complicated but he still would have been able to acquire US citizenship through Scrotus.

The true aim of this supposed law would be that a child born to TWO illegal or non-citizen legal residents ('green card' holders) would not have US citizenship at birth. It would take a change to the Constitution. Prior to this election I would have said 'never happen'. After the 2024 election I'm not sure of anything.

noodlezoodle · 10/12/2024 09:11

I'm a bit nervy about the whole thing because I'm a naturalized citizen, and Stephen Miller is eying up that group as well. Although it being Stephen Miller I imagine he's not trying to come after white English ladies.

Spandauer · 10/12/2024 09:37

My understanding is that it is as Across says - anyone born in the US from 2 non-US citizen parents. Their racist sights are focused on the children of undocumented immigrants.

I guess 'in theory' naturalised citizens are also born of 2 non-US citizens but so many people would come under that category it would be unworkable - Melania and Melonia would be ejected if they went down that road!

Stephen Miller is a grade A piece of racist 💩 but he'll have a struggle to find a way to target the particular group of naturalised citizens he doesn't want.

I wonder if Putins dropping of Syria has reminded Trump how expendable he is ?

Alternatively - or simultaneously - I wonder how obvious it is that now Putin has promoted his pawn, so to speak, he's willing to sacrifice other pieces ?

Spandauer · 10/12/2024 10:25

I wonder if Putin will be invited to the inauguration this time? If not, how soon after will the state visit be announced?

Reliance on Fox 'News' to reach the MAGA masses may be under threat if Rupert shuffles off this mortal coil. But I won't hold my breath and, in any event, Musk will no doubt just start up a Fox clone.

He's been papped out and about with another deluded lucky lady.

Convenient appointment from Dad?

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 11/12/2024 18:06

I've just seen this from Occupy Democrats on Facebook. It can only be a good thing, surely?

"BREAKING: President Biden drops a bomb on MAGA world by announcing that he will veto a formerly bipartisan bill that would add 63 permanent judgeships because Donald Trump would now be the one to fill 22 of the seats.
You have to fight fire with fire...
Biden promised to veto the bill which has already passed in the Senate and is set to be voted on by the Republican-controlled House this week.
The bill was designed to add judgeships to help with the backlog at federal courthouses across the country. However, if the choice is between having too few judges or having 22 new MAGA ones, it's better to not have the judges at all.
"Under this legislation, we all promised to give the next three unknown presidents a certain number of judges," said Congressman Jerry Nadler. "Because no one can tell the future we were all at an equal disadvantage, but for this deal to work, the bill had to be passed before Election Day."
It's encouraging to see Democrats strategically wielding power like this. Joe Biden has a responsibility to protect the American people from Donald Trump as best he can."

BustingBaoBun · 11/12/2024 18:47

So Don Jr is stepping out with someone new and Kimberley is now nominated to be Greek Ambassador... she has never worked in a diplomatic role or has experience in foreign policy... is it just to shove her off to Greece or something?

That's what I think. How nice to be in a position to send your son's ex out of the country. Wish I could do that for my son's STBX.

It's either that or it's in exchange for keeping schtum about all she knows about the Trump Clan. Or should that be Klan? Anyway, she's been in 'the inner circle' for quite some time now. I'll bet she knows shit that would make our collective hair curl.

Legal Eagle is suing the government for access to all the information from the classified documents investigation.

Do we think he will succeed? I fear there isn't enough time to get this done before Trump takes over and destroys the records.

@Ficklebricks

I don't think Scrotus has the authority to put the kibosh on the lawsuit out of hand (caveat: we're in untested waters here after the SCOTUS immunity decision) but if the plaintiff succeeds, appeals will be filed all the way up to the SCOTUS and since they're pretty much in Scrotus' pocket, they'll find a way to dismiss the suit or vacate any decision to release.

DuncinToffee · 12/12/2024 11:00

FBI Director Christopher Wray has decided to resign before Trump takes office

AcrossthePond55 · 12/12/2024 14:29

@DuncinToffee

IIRC didn't Scrotus become 'disenchanted' with him late in his prior term? I seem to remember Wray refusing to do as he was told about weaponizing the FBI and/or cooperating with the impeachment investigations.

It's pretty normal to resign ahead of time if an official knows they're going to be asked to resign (or worse, publicly fired) by the incoming administration. I assume that's what's behind Wray's resignation. That or he knows he'll be expected to be a 'weapon of mass destruction' in Scrotus' plans for his 'enemies' and wants nothing to do with it.
