How do you make coffee at home?

What do you use and how do you drink it? I have used a Nespresdo machine for the past 2 decades but feel it’s quite a wasteful way of deinking coffee and would like something more “genuine”.
Is a french press the way to go? How do other people make their coffee at home?

Instant coffee granules, near boiling water plus semi skimmed milk. Fast.

Teaspoon of Nescafe
Boiling water
Splash of milk.
Sugar to taste if you're that way inclined.

We are the lazy gits on this thread🤣

Cafetiere. Minimal faff, time, cost and kitchen space.

I’ve used a Moka pot for 40 years. I heat some full fat milk in a pan to go with it.

Pylwin · 09/11/2024 20:41

I love my Mokka on the stove for strong delicious espresso

My De'longhi espresso machine also makes a strong espresso

I use my filter machine for morning work coffee because it has a timer so coffee is all ready to go but of course it's never as good as a coffee made with the pressure of a stovetop mokka or espresso machine.

I find cafetières far too weak and the same for those dreadful pod machines. Neither make a decent cup any better than instant coffee tbh.

Used to make it in my Delonghi bean to cup machine - until I broke it after accidentally putting the beans in the compartment intended for ground coffee. A replacement for the same machine would cost me over £600 🙄

Ebay is your friend (hopefully!)

Pylwin · 09/11/2024 20:42

I like my coffee to taste of coffee with lots of milk and sugar just like you'd get at a decent coffee shop

Pylwin · 09/11/2024 20:45

I have a coffee grinder so grind my own coffee beans

Nothing fancy just a £20 Krupps and Tesco Italian coffee beans

But it makes the strong espresso coffee I need to add lots of milk to

I love coffee

Pylwin · 09/11/2024 20:47

I've tried loads of coffee beans but you know what Tescos are lovely much better than Lavazza which really aren't that strong or tasty

Pylwin · 09/11/2024 20:51

At work I drink instant coffee so I don't mind it

We have a fancy Sage coffee machine and grinder for the coffee beans. It has the milk frother too. It’s used daily, so worth the investment.

Tastes better than any coffee shop coffee imho.

This. Although there are one or two independent coffee shops round here whose coffee beats it.

TheFTrain · 09/11/2024 21:05

I've got a Sage Barista Express and when it breaks I'm getting another one. It's awesome.

I've also got a Nespresso which we sometimes use in the summer to make iced coffee but in terms of taste, it's not a patch on the Sage.

saraclara · 09/11/2024 21:13

Aeropress when it's just me. Love the coffee it makes, and there's no cleaning up! If I have guests, I use a large cafetiere, and if I'm feeling fancy I'll use my mokka pot.

ObliviousCoalmine · 09/11/2024 21:28

LaPalmaLlama · 09/11/2024 17:10

Not quite what you asked but I use a Nespresso but get the pods from Grind and compost them. They mail them and you can set up a subscription.

I do this. I also have the Grind pod machine.

WarriorN · 10/11/2024 06:38

Caffetier.

Dh has an espresso maker but I find it a faff.

I'd like an aero press for Xmas.

WarriorN · 10/11/2024 06:40

Edit - it's a French press (doh 🤦🏻‍♀️)

Alonglongway · 10/11/2024 07:08

I'm the only coffee drinker and I use the Hario Baton one cup coffee maker - just a good filter in a glass cup. Makes a lovely coffee in 3 mins

Same here. Instant from Clipper for me, DH uses a grinder and aeropress. We also have a large cafetiere but mainly use it if we have guests rather than day to day.

SirHisss · 10/11/2024 07:22

I use a Moka pot on the hob and buy locally roasted coffee.

I also have a Clever Dripper which is pretty handy if you're just making for yourself. You brew the coffee in the top then it drains straight in to your cup when it's ready.

I've heard good things about the Aeropress too but my favourite is definitely my Moka pot.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 10/11/2024 07:52

Moka pot for one, cafetière for 2 or more.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 10/11/2024 08:26

I've had a LaPavoni lever machine for over 30 thirty years. Gets used every day. Would be lost without it. When it's being serviced (very rarely) we use a cafetiere. Makes great coffee and looks fantastic 😁.

How do you make coffee at home?
Toastthemosttoo · 10/11/2024 08:28

Bean to cup - quick and it makes great coffee.

SuperGinger · 10/11/2024 08:29

We always use a cafetière.

notprincehamlet · 10/11/2024 08:42

Bean to cup machine (a really good Black Friday deal a couple of years ago). I think I might actually love it. It's the closest thing to a pet I'm allowed to have as I rent. I might buy one of those pushchairs for dogs and start taking it for walks. At the moment I'm liking Union beans and I drink two or three high octane cups a day.
I need good strong espresso to punch me in thr face in the morning.
Grin

notprincehamlet · 10/11/2024 08:47

That machine is magnificent @Grumpyoldpersonwithcats !
