Celebs where you don’t expect to see them

I did a drivers awareness course today, one of the online courses where the group joins via teams or whatever it is. You only see everyone’s face and first name.
Anyway, there was one participant that after a while of thinking she was familiar, I realised she’s a TV presenter. I’m certain it was her, but if it wasn’t then this woman with the same name shares an uncanny resemblance.

I don’t spot many celebs where I live so it was quite exciting to be sharing a space with one. Even if it was that particular space. She seemed very pleasant.

Ever had any random celeb spots like that?

Ooh yes - my best one recently - Aaron Taylor Johnson and wife Sam on next table to us with kids and tiny dog in Rick Stein's fish and chip shop in Padstow. Waitress spotted their dog and asked them to take outside. Aaron obliged mod-meal - we then finished ours. I asked him if he wanted me to watch his dog while he went back inside to finish his lunch - would have offered even if it wasnt AJT....he declined! 😂

I was in a lift with Graham Norton in Canary Wharf, I was chatting to toddler DS who was sitting in a Waitrose trolley so I didn't notice. Then he (Graham Norton, not DS) was about to pay for the car park with a debit card and I said "Oh, don't pay with real money, I have spare tokens" and held one out. He turned to say thanks and that's when I recognised him.

I had always thought he was a short man, but he was average height, taller than me anyway.

Thesilkinsideachesnutshell · 06/11/2024 20:32

And Victor Meldrew and Chris Eubank in selfridges (not together). I'd expect to see celebs in London though.

TheRutshireWI · 06/11/2024 20:32

Queen Camilla being pelted with bread rolls in Sainsbury's car park.

I worked weekends - we had loads of 'celebs' come in from Melinda Messenger to Nenah Cherry, Tears for Fears and my personal favourite, Timmy Mallett

Also a lot of the then Bath rugby team in village pubs being twats.

Hermione Norris in the butcher in Notting Hill. I was waiting outside with my friends dog and she said “lovely dog” and like a twat I said “oh, it’s not mine”. Like why did I say that???

I don't think there was anything twatish about what you said.

Waiting outside an after school club to pick up, Jane Torvill just stood there chatting away to other mums.

Jayne Torvill for me too! In the toilets at Rovaniemi airport of all places.

birdiesings · 06/11/2024 20:35

Frank Skinner casually sitting on a wall in Edinburgh.

JudyKing · 06/11/2024 20:35

I used to see Toyah Battersby (from Corrie) in Sainsbury’s in Bristol. (The Winterstoke Road branch)

TwoBlueFish · 06/11/2024 20:35

Had my nails done a while back and Sally Lindsay was sitting next to me (didn’t realise it was her till later), Freddie Flintoff in the supermarket, Tommy Fury & Molly Mae in a cafe.

NottsNora · 06/11/2024 20:35

Becky Vardy in Costa in 2017. Coffee, not Rica.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 06/11/2024 20:36

I used to work near Angel Islington and often spotted famous people in my lunch hour when popping out for a sandwich. I can't remember most of them now, except the demon headmaster (Terrence Hardiman) who must have been mildly pissed off by something or other as he looked almost as scary as the character. We were going in opposite directions on a pedestrian crossing, I gave him a wide berth.

Su Pollard was always in Chapel Market M&S when I last worked round there.

I’ve got another Bath one!
Met a friend there for lunch last week and Siân Phillips came in.

Why was Camilla being pelted with bread rolls?

Because she was having an affair with Prince Charles.

user876477 · 06/11/2024 20:38

Jude law in the swimming pool

Tarkan · 06/11/2024 20:39

I also heard a celeb name being asked to get to their gate when I was at Seattle airport but I didn't see them.

It was years ago now so all I can remember is it was a Bridget/Brigitte and definitely an actress surname. I doubt it would be Bardot so I think it must have been Nielsen or Fonda. Certainly a name you think it surely must be that person.

Were they soft, floury baps or more painful hard granary ones with knobbly bits?

IceIceBabyBump · 06/11/2024 20:41

Tony from Dinnerladies used to live on my street.
He and my dog were friends.

CCreasty · 06/11/2024 20:42

I walked into a bar in my home city once, saw a guy on a bar stool that I thought I recognised as a local from suburb. Said hi and moved on. Bar tender delivered some free beer from said chap at the end of the bar. I then realised he was a premiership footballer

VivianLea · 06/11/2024 20:42

ImRonBurgandy · 06/11/2024 19:57

Oh I have some!

Rachel Stevens in Pret
Alan Davies at soft play
Frank Skinner at kids' swimming lessons
Steve Pemberton on the tube
Reece Shearsmith with his personal trainer in the park
Hugh Grant in my office
Simon Brodkin shopping for beds

Blimey, this reads like a game of Cluedo.

Boohoo76 · 06/11/2024 20:42

Emma Bunton in a furniture shop.

DisforDarkChocolate · 06/11/2024 20:43

Judge Rinder walking along Euston Road. He looked polished and lovely.

ElleDeeCB · 06/11/2024 20:43

Richard Branson (and young family) at Norwich train station, John Malkovich at the restaurant in the Barbican, Steve McFadden waiting in A&E at a London hospital, Sir Simon Rattle in a train compartment in Germany, Tilda Swinton in a very quiet bar in Vienna, Paul Weller in the kids shoes department at Peter Jones, Bobby Gillespie on the tube, Brett Anderson at a Private View at Tate Modern, Kirsty Allsopp in a boutique in Stamford, Lincs.

Grassgreenblue · 06/11/2024 20:46

I was a child when I popped into the local shell garage (at the end of my parents street) with my brother (we would have been buying sweets)

A short bloke came in behind us,wrapped up in a thick black coat, black scarf, balaclava, gloves and heavy boots

This was the height of summer and we where having a heatwave at the time (may have been the summer of 94)

He pushed past us,paid for whatever he was buying and stomped out again, without saying a word

We watched him shuffle off down the road

The bloke who was serving us said it was the actor who played Joe sugden in emmerdale,he did it all the time apparently

If he was trying to go undetected,he failed badly-we thought it was Michael Jackson!

How he didn't pass out from heatstroke,I will never know
