Looks like Trump could win?

It's looking good for Trump. My dad is a total Trump hater and has been convinced that he won't win, especially since Kamala took over.
I don't know how the system works but is it too early to say that Trump is going to win?

Thes are things which they could have done at any point in the last 4 years?

She was campaigning against the policies they already had.

No as a vice president she could t do her own stuff you do know that don't you? Biden has already put insulin to 35 dollars and she was gonna continue and go further

News & politics are entertainment now.
Trump knows this, he’s a pro performer.

Kamala was a gift to him. Female. Not white.
We’ve seen this before with Hillary.
Though she was mature, experienced. White.
Still, a female. America is deeply conservative.
We thought Obama was a huge change…
But it’s swung the other way. Hence no Michelle.

This will change world order.
More than 2008. More than COVID.
More than Putin. More than Gaza.
Brexit is about to get the serious.
As PP said, the UK needs to get with it.
Same with Europe. We’ve entered a new era…

This is the time of tech, look at our kids.
Trump knows how to play the game!

What does that matter ? What is do know is that society benefits from a gov that helps .

Well, it’s just that you questioned the extent of my tertiary education, and given your strongly held views, I wanted to assess how valid they are.

But this is what America wanted. He's won quite convincingly. So they they get exactly what they voted for. No need to feel sorry for anyone.

But as with Brexit, nearly half the country did not want this. For many, it's their worst nightmare. I feel sorry for them and all those who'll be adversely affected by his presidency.

I started watching last night (bbc coverage) and the majority of voters for trump were citing the cost of living and how expensive food etc is under the Biden administration. Is it really that bad over there? Or do Americans not tend to look beyond their own borders to see that the cost of living is increasing in just about every other country as well?

Well it is 52 states the size of a continent so yes they can put themselves first. I do not expect they would be voting thinking of us here.

I travel to the US quite regularly and yes it is way worse than it is here. You have to remember everything used to be so cheap there and people have been used to it. 20 years ago we used to say it was a free holiday to America with the exchange rate and the vast amount of cheap produce! We honestly have been gobsmacked how expensive everything is there now- the fast increase is just mind blowing. And then people have to now pay 20% tips minimum on top of practically everything, it is hard to describe just how different it is now from even 10 years ago.

Also you: She was gonna make it like they have done by making insulin 35 dollars a month not 800 as it was to other health care things to help Americans

So she had a policy to do what they already did?

Revolutionary. I have no idea why she lost.

Look, you are obviously angry. So maybe calm down and try thinking through your inept raging as it is making you look like a right plank.

People in the USA took one look at Kamala and said 'no'.

So we can't feel sorry for women who will now potentially die, because other people in their country voted against the best interests of those women?

If a country majority votes for something, we can't feel sorry for anyone else in that country?

What a bizarre thing to suggest.

Dulra · 06/11/2024 08:09

I am not in the least bit surprised at the end of the day they trust Trump with the economy they believe he will put more money in their pockets. Whether that is true or not time will tell. In America, like everywhere else, the cost of living has gone up, cost of housing, fuel etc. In America people feel that is Biden's fault and that Trump had managed the economy better, they see everything else around him as just noise. I don't believe they are right and I don't believe Trump will be good for the less off. He is reducing taxes for high earners so yes they will benefit but I don't see that trickling down.

I think the rest of the world has learnt from the last Trump administration and will continue on without US influence and revert back to side stepping them for a while.

I clarified what I meant that yes that had happened but she was going to go further and extend that to other health care issues.

Add to that the whole 'putting farmers out of business and buying up all the land' policy that is causing devastation across the rural communities and it is destroying the whole food industry.

People are petrified of what else the Democrats will do to them. Both in the cities and in the rural heartland. And I don't blame them.

I remember paying for a holiday to New York 20 years ago just by selling off my old books on ebay.

Well except the inhabitants of the planet because Trump’s “policies” will accelerate the climate crisis, likely to unsalvageable proportions. And the people of the Baltic states, when Trump supports Russia to crush them. And the rest of us facing food and fuel insecurity as a result. And the people of the Middle East who are further than ever from seeing peace - no wonder Netanyahu sacked the only faintly non-hawkish member of his cabinet yesterday. And anyone who had a faint hope in the power of democracy and who doesn’t want to be ruled by unelected Musks.

The economy... People associate the Democrats with high inflation/fuel prices and portrayed her as a Leftie!!

Many American voted for more restrictive abortion rights.

I don't think its got anything to do with her being black and female.

The USA sneezes, the rest of world gets a cold... or in this case, Pneumonia.

Ukraine, Trade, China and NATO will all be very different under Trump.

I do actually she was gonna stop proce gauging by supermarkets that have put prices up for no reasons. She was gonna help you find people buy houses give them help. She was gonna make it like they have done by making insulin 35 dollars a month not 800 as it was to other health care things to help Americans

Why was she waiting until after the election to do those things?

Pumpkincozynights · 06/11/2024 08:02

I’ll be honest I don’t know much about either of their policies or how the voting system works in the USA. I can only imagine Trump had won due to what my old History teacher once said and that is; people vote for themselves. So if people have strong views about X and Trump us the candidate which supports X then that overrides any other aspect about him.
People are the same all over the world. Deep, deep down they care most about themselves and if Trump can save them a bit of money ( for example) then they will vote for him despite the other candidate perhaps being a better person.

Genuine question, I understand you are outlining the perception of the ordinary US voter, but do you think they will actually see any extra money? I think most likely Trump will bring about tax cuts, which usually benefit the wealthy the most. Obviously cuts will be made to pay for this - from public schools? Medical infrastructure? I don’t think voters always see that connection. They also don’t realise that everyone in the world has been experiencing high inflation since Covid.
US Unemployment is relatively low at 4% and inflation 2 point something - not too bad on a worldwide comparison,

Happening here in the UK too, seen Tesco's profits??? SM fuel, often more expensive than family run indies...

V difficult to stop it.

The circus came from celebrities endorsing Kamala. That was insulting and detrimental. However, even Trump was surprised by winning the popular vote. Nothing to do with being black or a woman. I respect her for working hard for the campaign but reality is that Trump would have a clear mandate. It was not enought selling herself as not being Trump while the democrats were in power and doing a terrible job.

Rosscameasdoody · 06/11/2024 08:16

You know that the Democrats have been in power the last 4 years right? So this happened under their watch?

@AlisonDonut No it didn’t. It was Trump who appointed three of the nine Supreme Court judges responsible for the decision. Six of the nine were appointed by republican presidents and all six voted to overturn Roe v Wade, the case on which abortion law in the US stood. That meant that the right to abortion up to 24 weeks was abolished and since abortion is not mentioned in the Constitution, individual states were given the right to decide their own abortion laws. Nothing at all to do with the Democrats or any other government, as it’s an entirely separate process.

If you know your history you’ll know that there have been challenges to Roe v Wade in the past which have served to modify the original 1973 decision several times. The case involved in overturning it was Dobson v Jackson’s Women’s Health, in which a Mississippi abortion clinic and one of its doctors challenged the 2018 state law banning abortion after 15 weeks. They claimed it violated the precedent set by Roe v Wade and a subsequent case - Planned Parenthood of South Eastern Pennsylvania v Casey. The lower courts agreed and blocked the law.

The case was put before the Supreme Court, who decided that the constitution doesn’t grant a right to abortion, or explicitly mention/protect abortion rights. It upheld Mississippi's 15-week abortion ban, saying that Roe v Wade was wrongly decided, and that Planned Parenthood of South Eastern Pennsylvania v Casey continued the error. It overturned both cases and said that individual states should decide abortion laws which may restrict or ban abortions.

Well, I’m not exactly a Trump fan, but I find it equally bizarre when people say that they won’t be visiting the States while he’s president, even though they were planning to go 🤷‍♀️

dottiehens, good point about Kamala & the celebrities.

What I’m saying is that Trump knows that he is the star.
