Any one else with a favourite song from the nineties that no one else remembers?

Mine is Operaa House by Malcolm McLaren. I spent many a happy hour being driven through New Zealand as a kid torturing my parents by singing along to this and Aria on Air but no one I’ve meet seems to know of it. Still absolutely adore it as an adult but sadly no better at singing it.

Nothing Ever Happens by Del Amitri. Ideal song for the bored depressed teenager I was.

I love Be My Downfall.

Birdhouse in Your Soul by They Might be Giants. Saw them in 1990 when it came out and am seeing them again the week after next in Manchester. Everyone I have told about the gig has never heard of them! Shocked.

They are still gigging. They are in the U.K. soon but all the gigs are sold out.

StuntAcorn · 01/11/2024 21:03

No Ordinary Love - Sade

Also By Your Side, but that's 2000.

Space...Who lives in a house like this? Is 1 of my favourite...it appeals to my very weird sense of humour.

I saw them in San Francisco in 1990 - they were doing an open air concert.

Weird lyrics - but great song

DrizzleMySwizzle · 01/11/2024 21:05

I wouldn't say no one else remembers, because they still have a sizeable fanbase but they'd rarely get mentioned outside of this

Afghan Whigs - John the Baptist

@R00tat00tt00t Oh I used to love wide open space, haven’t heard it in years.

The Now 30s were all classics

Now 29 was the first CD I got as well. Every song near enough a belter: Now That's What I Call Music! 29 (1994, CD) - Discogs

I remember Now 27 and 28 as well, used to get copied tapes down the local market, 2 casettes for a fiver.

Aswad - Shine, which I remember blaring out in The American Adventure Park on a school trip where I was violently sick. Ah the memories.

So many.

Independent Love Song by Scarlet

Living on my Own by Freddie Mercury

74/75 by the Connells

Are particular stand outs for me.

I came on here to say Independent Love Song. Glad to see it's not entirely lost to memory!

Not my absolute favourite, but loved The Sundays - Here Where The Story Ends.

Totally underrated. They woz robbed by Sixpence None The Richer and co.

Tin Tin Out did a cover if this

cakeorwine · 01/11/2024 21:09

This is just taking me back to the 1990s

Stupid Girl - by Garbage
Baby I don't care - Transvision Vamp

MaidOfSteel · 01/11/2024 21:09

'You' by Ten Sharp. Fabulous song.

Space and The Divine Comedy, love their slightly oddball storylines/lyrics!

I had a school friend who loved Female of the Species and went around singing “Shock, shock, horror, horror. Shock, shock, horror” all day 🤣

ChaosDream · 01/11/2024 21:11

Hey Jealousy by the Gin Blossoms, it gets played on absolute 90s every so often

"This is how we party" by Soap. Gives me a lot of nostalgia of a family holiday to Anglesey, I think 1998 or 1999.

I saw Savage Garden live in the early 00's and I’m sure Soap was the supporting act. I remember their songs being extremely catchy, might have to look them up.

I've just been looking up the relevant Now albums for my teenage years on Spotify and adding loads of songs to my playlist. Looking forward to a very long dog walk with them soon!

Cast - Walkaway / Live the Dream

theluckiest · 01/11/2024 21:13

Stars by Dubstar. Jo Whiley played it recently and I hadn't heard it for nearly 30 years!! Remembered every word

Also Into Your Arms by the Lemonheads

One Way by the Levellers

What you all need to do is ask Alexa to play songs from any random year and enjoy!!! I've rediscovered a fair few songs this way...

Roxette - Paint. I am only 29 but I grew up with my Mum listening to their albums, and sadly not one of my friends knows any of their songs apart from 'It must've been love'. Breaks my heart. Such an underrated band.

Edited

Love Roxette. Got their greatest hits album at the time. "Almost unreal" is a great song from that period.
