Any one else with a favourite song from the nineties that no one else remembers?

Mine is Operaa House by Malcolm McLaren. I spent many a happy hour being driven through New Zealand as a kid torturing my parents by singing along to this and Aria on Air but no one I’ve meet seems to know of it. Still absolutely adore it as an adult but sadly no better at singing it.

@RichardOsmansFreakishlyBigHand St Etienne! Who do you think you are, Hobart Paving, Hug My Soul. Awesome. Gary Davies used to play Join our Club all the time on Radio 1. Happy memories.
Also Mrs Robinson, The Lemonheads. I’ve no idea why I’ve connected those two bands😂

Hobart Paving is the most beautiful song I think I have ever heard. No idea what it's on about but beautiful nevertheless.

Behind the Mask - Eric Clapton

And one about "I followed you in my little blue car" but I don't know their name.

Drinkdrinkduuurink · 01/11/2024 20:50

Hahahaha..literally posted it the same time!

EmeraldRoulette · 01/11/2024 20:50

I'd say most of these are popular

props to the person who said Shawn Mullins Lullaby though. That's one I find a lot of people (in the relevant age group) don't know.

@KhakiShaker @Drinkdrinkduuurink
What about their other hit, Seventeen?

UglyFatandStupid · 01/11/2024 20:52

@RebeccaDecember You’re my person! I love these

Just got back to thread and so many songs mentioned that I’d forgotten about that I’ll have to add to my nineties playlist. Glad to see at least one person mention Haddaway, I listen to What is love weekly and still no one I know remembers it 😯
I do wonder how much music varied by country back then, I spent the nineties listening to a lot of Enigma, B-Tribe and Buffy Sainte Marie and I’m surprised how few people here recognise them apart from Enigma, I think they were fairly popular around the world. I was a huge Ace of Base fan too but when we moved back to the U.K around ‘98 my new school friends didn’t seem to remember them much.

Glorious by Andreas Johnson. Late 90s but brings back a lot of memories for me.
Not many people remember it when I mention it.

Ooh love this one!

I luuuurved Damn, I Wish I Was Your Lover by Sophie B Hawkins. 12 year old me thought it was so sexy.
I Love You Always Forever by Donna Lewis and God by Joan Osbourne were big hitters on my disc man. I thought the latter was very profound.

Loved God, in fact I have the album on CD lurking in the shed. Wasn't their a spiderweb track?

I loved Eggman (I think) by Dodgy. Album track so probably doesn't count but amazing.

"This is how we party" by Soap. Gives me a lot of nostalgia of a family holiday to Anglesey, I think 1998 or 1999.

Yes!! I used to like this one! I got it on a free CD with Smash Hits magazine or similar and nobody at the time had ever heard of it.

R00tat00tt00t · 01/11/2024 20:59

I've just spotted your great username @RichardMarxisinnocent ! I LOVED Hazard!

I've also just remembered another Atlantic 252 classic, Runaway Train - Soul Asylum.

Bit worried some of my choices added together could be quite outing for those who know me well enough.

A family member recently went to see Richard Marx in concert. He’s still around playing his music.
Loved Hazard and Right Here Waiting.

Walking on the Milky Way - OMD

That's a good call!!

Nothing Ever Happens by Del Amitri. Ideal song for the bored depressed teenager I was.

Hard to name sonfs that no one else remembers as the last 2 were massive songs. If they featured on the NOW series they arent forgettable.

The Now 30s were all classics

Now 29 was the first CD I got as well. Every song near enough a belter: Now That's What I Call Music! 29 (1994, CD) - Discogs

Jifmicroliquid · 01/11/2024 21:02

It’s only natural- Crowded House
I remember watching my crush kicking a ball around with his friends while this was playing. I still think of him when this song plays! Happy times.
