Any one else with a favourite song from the nineties that no one else remembers?

Mine is Operaa House by Malcolm McLaren. I spent many a happy hour being driven through New Zealand as a kid torturing my parents by singing along to this and Aria on Air but no one I’ve meet seems to know of it. Still absolutely adore it as an adult but sadly no better at singing it.

Soundtracks also featured heavily...Reality Bites, empire records, shooting fish!

The Reality Bites soundtrack has one of my favourite songs ever 'When you come back to me' by World Party. The whole soundtrack is great (I also loved the Shooting Fish one).

I love this thread. Very nostalgic. I owned a lot of these songs on cassette (especially the indie ones).

@AlecTrevelyan006 brilliant band- superb lyrics -

Weepingwillows12 · 02/11/2024 09:16

I really liked Silversun and Gorkys Zygotic Mynci in the mid 90s then more punk rock by the end of the 90s. Someone mentioned it earlier but Rocket from the Crypt was one of the most fun gigs I ever went to.

Also Freeze the Atlantic by Cable (from the sprite ad)

Rocket from the crypt - on a rope

Yes!

An awesome memory has been stirred, thank you!

Bran Van 3000 - Drinking in LA
Steal My Sunshine - LEN

I was in primary school when these came out but loved them and continue to listen to them.

These two songs remind me of some of the best and happiest times of my teenage life. I get transported back when I hear them.
I remember going to HMV to buy the Steal my Sunshine single.

You Come From Earth by Lena?

Edited

Yes, that’s it! A thousand thank yous!

Oh, the relief to actually hear it again and not start to think I just made it up.

The artist’s name didn’t ring a bell, so I probably never knew who it was in the first place. No idea why my searching brought nothing of the sort up that linked to the song though.

Little Black Backpack by Stroke 9.
I like it for the same reason I love Santeria by Sublime. I love a catchy revenge song.

I'd forgotten about that Stroke 9 song. I went travelling around the US in 2000 and it was still all over US radio stations then. I wonder if it had been re released.

Funkyslippers · 02/11/2024 09:37

They only had the 1 minor hit though. They couldn't sing and didn't have much personality on stage. They were right about Fleetwood Mac though (I like some of their earlier songs but Everywhere & Little Lies make my teeth itch!)

I think we've moved away from the struct "nobody remembers" to "not heard as much anymore". @NoCarbsForMe.

Two Princes was catchy at the time, but now I think it's just repetitive and boring. Same couple of bars repeated 4 times for the verse before they get to the chorussy bit, but there's actually very little music in it.

I've always hated that song, along with Breakfast At Tiffany's!

I was talking about Reynolds Girls here but forgot to quote!

Finlay Quaye - ride on and turn the people on. His Maverick a strike album was brilliant!

I’d forgotten all about Finlay Quaye, I used to listen to Roll the Dice on repeat, probably drove my parents mad with that one too.

Kenny Kravitz- Fly Away

If You Buy This Record- The Tamperers Featuring Maya

I'm trying to recall the title of a song sung by an Irish band, starting "I've noticed you around. I think you're very attractive....Would you go to bed with me?" Really bizarre song with a catchy tune!

Touch & Go - Would you?

I used to go ceroc dancing and they played lots of songs from that album, really good dancing music, “So hot” “Tango in Harlem” and “Straight to Number One” all brilliant for jive/blues dancing and tango.

I think that waste point when SAW (metaphorically) picked them off the street. They were nobodies a d that's the inky song they did as they were dumped after that!

Cut Your Hair by Pavement
Changes by Sugar
Hit by The Sugarcubes

Absolutely.
That Sugarcubes song is mine and dp's song.

That song with Destiny's child and that guy from Coronation Street (or one of those soaps).

I think it's called 'She's gone' because I kept singing 'she's gone, OHHHWA OHHHWA!'

Re the guy from Coronation Street, it wasn’t Adam Rickett was it? He sang 'I Breathe Again' and was naked in a glass cube in the video which was hilarious, I really liked the song at the time though 😅

I wonder if anyone remembers 'Where do you go? My lovely' by No Mercy, that song was everywhere for a while.

Whoever mentioned Deep Forest, I used to listen to them a lot, they were always featured in those Moods compilation albums that everyone seemed to have.
Discovered 'Little Fluffy Clouds' from those cds too.

All around the world - Lisa Stansfield

You seriously think no-one remembers this? It was number 1 for ages. And 1989 but apart from that...😄

Funkyslippers · 02/11/2024 07:42

This definitely isn't a song that noone remembers! I saw Suede last year, they were fantastic. Brett Anderson wiped the floor with other more "successful" Brit pop bands in the 90s

I saw Suede this summer at Ally Pally, they were touring with Manic Street Preachers swapping headlining. Suede headlined that night and it was incredible, the atmosphere was amazing. I’ve seen them many times but that gig was really special.

This thread has got me searching for songs from the era (even heard a bit of Westlife for the first time in yonks).

Forgot how beautiful this song is. Isn't it Sharon the lead singer? She's amazing.

Andrea, the lead singer.
They are on tour in uk this month!

LongLongLiveLove · 02/11/2024 10:07

Oooo, as a Just a Little Bit More by Gina G. Appalling song.

Gomez - Whippin Piccadilly
Elastica - Waking Up

Chocolate Supa Highway by Spearhead! Listened to it constantly.

I love Whippin Piccadilly. I remember the video on mtv etc all the time, going up and down the escalators. It's never played now on the radio. I heard it once on some obscure show once. For a song that was so mainstream, I can't believe how it disappeared and barely anyone remembers it!

Shangrilalala · 02/11/2024 10:30

I remember being desperately unhappy in the 90s but three songs I adored:

You - Ten Sharp

Your woman - White Town

Circle - Edie Brickell

Then DH usually lectures me that we met in 1994, so I clearly wasn’t as miserable as I recall for the entire decade. He’s right, but the early 90s were a wasteland and I was so grateful for some good music.

She represented England in Eurovision 96 with that song so make of that what you will 😄
