Any one else with a favourite song from the nineties that no one else remembers?

Mine is Operaa House by Malcolm McLaren. I spent many a happy hour being driven through New Zealand as a kid torturing my parents by singing along to this and Aria on Air but no one I’ve meet seems to know of it. Still absolutely adore it as an adult but sadly no better at singing it.

A lot have been mentioned already, but has anyone mentioned Crazy for You by Let Loose?

Was Six Undergroubd 90s?

The early 90s was brilliant for a diverse selection of music genres being popular. I'm trying to remember songs from the late nineties but it really did get too boybandy at that point.

Soukmyfalafel · 02/11/2024 07:15

I don't really know obscure these really are, but nobody mentions them now:

Eagle Eye Cherry - Save Tonight
Third Eye Blind - Semi Charmed Life

Does anyone remember Deep Forest?

That song with Destiny's child and that guy from Coronation Street (or one of those soaps).

I think it's called 'She's gone' because I kept singing 'she's gone, OHHHWA OHHHWA!'

Matthew Marsden. Who then went on to have a relationship wirh one of the Honeyz.

You’re the Voice by John Farnham. Was 1986 rather than 1990s but close enough?

I've heard that loads of times

Oh and another one : Trash - Suede
I saw Brett Anderson at Isle of Whyte in the summer and he was fantastic.

This definitely isn't a song that noone remembers! I saw Suede last year, they were fantastic. Brett Anderson wiped the floor with other more "successful" Brit pop bands in the 90s

Tatu was early noughties I think

Definitely had that vibe that music was ‘changing’, anyway.

Decade breach on both songs. Reynolds Girls was 1989 I think amd Tati was as yoi say naughties.

Reynolds Girls should remain forgotten with that SAW abomination! SAW revealed somewhere that they hired them to flick the v for being snubbed for any Brit award nominations, and to prove they could get literally anyone to sing their songs amd.it will still be a hit. They weren't wrong!

I’ve had one in my head for years and I can’t remember the title or artist - it’s infuriating!

I’ve tried searching the lyrics and singing it to friends but no one can remember it.

Do you remember this?

We were put upon this planet
to love and help each other
at least I think that’s the way god planned it
why then hurt your brother?

we come from earth
sister or brother
we come from earth
whatever colour

Sounds like Seal

The size of a cow by The Wonderstuff
Bluetonic by the bluetones

In 1990 I was still listening to Tanita Tikaram, although her first album was released a year or so earlier. Loved her.
I'll add:
Erykah Badu -whole Baduizm album
Toni Childs 'I Met A Man'
D'Angelo 'Brown Sugar'
Daft Punk 'Around the World'
Fatboy Slim 'Praise You'
The Spin Doctors' 'Two Princes'
'Too Young To Die' by Jamiroquai

Really?

Yes, Let Loose has been mentioned.

Do people remember Babyface? I think he was mostly a songwriter for R n B acts, but he did one himself called "Every time I close my eyes" which I loved at the time.

CaveMum · 02/11/2024 07:59

If you fancy a nostalgia trip, BBC Sounds has a podcast called Scott & Rylan’s Pop Top 10.

Each episode they do a run down on what is their opinion on a particular genre. Obviously it’s pop focussed but they’ve done 2 90s related charts so far - 90s Boybands and Iconic 90s Covers.

xsquared · 02/11/2024 08:05

I think we've moved away from the struct "nobody remembers" to "not heard as much anymore". @NoCarbsForMe.

Two Princes was catchy at the time, but now I think it's just repetitive and boring. Same couple of bars repeated 4 times for the verse before they get to the chorussy bit, but there's actually very little music in it.

venusina · 02/11/2024 08:09

Casanova by Ultimate Kaos. For me that song is tied up with memories of being on holiday in Florida in 1997, but I think the song was originally from a little earlier than that.

OliviaRodrighost · 02/11/2024 08:28

Ooh I just remembered a really good one. There was a song called Nanny in Manhattan that was on a hits compilation CD I had around 97/98. It may have been used in an advert but I have never heard anyone mention it or heard it played anywhere since. It was a very Monkees vibe.

Incredibly short at 2 minutes long!

I loved that song! If I recall, it had Mariah Carey on backing vocals. I used to sing my heart out to that one in my bedroom!

countdowntonap · 02/11/2024 08:31

Bran Van 3000 - Drinking in LA
Steal My Sunshine - LEN

I was in primary school when these came out but loved them and continue to listen to them.

AlecTrevelyan006 · 02/11/2024 08:39

Looking for Atlantis - Prefab Sprout
The Sound of Crying - Prefab Sprout
If You Don’t Love Me - Prefab Sprout

pretty much anything by Prefab Sprout -who are mainly only know for their 1988 hit The King of Rock N Roll while the rest of their amazing back catalogue is criminally overlooked

Maddy70 · 02/11/2024 08:39

Strawberry fields forever. Candy flip.

Fucketbucket · 02/11/2024 08:41

Finlay Quaye - ride on and turn the people on. His Maverick a strike album was brilliant!

@xsquared
You have extremely similar tastes and music background to me, it's getting freaky now 😆

Along the same lines was Bobby Brown's Rock Wit'cha and Roni.

Fucketbucket · 02/11/2024 08:47

Gomez - 78 stone wobble

xsquared · 02/11/2024 08:56

That's right. She did.
