Any one else with a favourite song from the nineties that no one else remembers?

Mine is Operaa House by Malcolm McLaren. I spent many a happy hour being driven through New Zealand as a kid torturing my parents by singing along to this and Aria on Air but no one I’ve meet seems to know of it. Still absolutely adore it as an adult but sadly no better at singing it.

I've got two;

Massive Attack - Unfinished Sympathy

Alanis Morrisette - You Oughta Know.

Both brilliant songs.

Do you honestly think no one else remembers these songs? Two massively successful records!

Unfinished Symphony is played so much in TV shows still to this day.

Oh I remember Crucified! They always played that on MTV around teatime. And Sin With Sebastian - Shut Up (And Sleep With Me).

My best mate kept banging on about it but I didn’t know it because I didn’t have MTV. Then I was round her house and it came on, it was amazing! The video was hilariously Eurotrash.

Years ago BBC radio 1 used to do greatest songs of all time on bank holidays and Unfinished Sympathy came out top one year. Its beauty of a song, that bassline is to die for. It's a masterpiece of a song and certainly not forgotten.

Haven't seen these ones mentioned yet, from the clubs.

Be My Lover by La Bouche

Short D*ck Man by 20 Fingers

I'm another that bought 'Independent Love Song' 😁 I had a great mix CD called 'Ladykillers' - it had that song and loads of others by female artists. My favourites on there are 'Drink the Elixir' by Salad, and 'Feed the Tree' by Belly. A smattering of others I loved in the 90s:

No Rain by Blind Melon
Little Fluffy Clouds by The Orb
Sweet Harmony by The Beloved
I'm Only Happy When it Rains by Garbage
Frozen by Madonna
Far From Home by The Levellers
Real Life by Simple Minds
Aldebaran by Enya
Even Better than the Real Thing (dance version) by U2
Sleeping Satellite by Tamsin Archer
The Sea by Morcheeba
Twist and Shout by Deacon Blue
Born of Frustration by James
Recovering the Satellites (live) by Counting Crows
Lucky by Radiohead - frankly that whole album is utter genius. It's making my respect for them almost equal to Pink Floyd's 😂

It was a great decade.

TheMotherSide · 02/11/2024 00:13

In 1990 I was still listening to Tanita Tikaram, although her first album was released a year or so earlier. Loved her.
I'll add:
Erykah Badu -whole Baduizm album
Toni Childs 'I Met A Man'
D'Angelo 'Brown Sugar'
Daft Punk 'Around the World'
Fatboy Slim 'Praise You'
The Spin Doctors' 'Two Princes'
'Too Young To Die' by Jamiroquai

Elderflower14 · 02/11/2024 00:15

Lullaby by Shawn Mullins.

LozzaChops101 · 02/11/2024 00:16

I found my cassette single of Touch & Go, Would You…? the other day. What the hell 😅

TheMotherSide · 02/11/2024 00:16

Oops, I forgot the "which no one else remembers" bit. Sorry.
The Toni Childs track is pretty obscure though.

RichardOsmansFreakishlyBigHand · 02/11/2024 00:16

Oh and Im gonna throw an honorable mention to Lightning Seeds - Change

It was indeed a great decade. Seattle Grunge, Metal, Britpop and the aforementioned dance/rave/hardcore with trance at the end of the decade. Has there ever been a better decade before or since? I dont think so.

I see you all, as I raise you Counting Crows Mr Jones

Emilia - Big Big World
Dove - Don’t Dream

LozzaChops101 · 02/11/2024 00:22

Throwing Muses, Bright Yellow Gun still gets regular rotation in the car for me.

Youllnevergetabetterbitofbutteronyourknife · 02/11/2024 00:24

I wonder how many people will remember Angie Brown & Bizarre Inc with Surprise? It was accompanying a montage at Wimbledon 1996 when it was raining. I have just found it! After 26 years of searching! 😂

60 Mile Smile - 3 Colours Red
When I argue I see shapes - Idlewild
The First Big Weekend - Arab Strap
Long Island - That Dog

I also have a nostalgic soft spot for the brief period in the early 90s when all our local club seemed to play was rave remixes of children's tv themes - Sesame's Treet - Smart E's, Trip to Trumpton - Urban Hype, Charly - The Prodigy (who of course went on to better and more famous things).

LadyGAgain · 02/11/2024 00:27

Thanks to Heart 90's station on the radio, so many of these amazing songs live on!

I’ve had one in my head for years and I can’t remember the title or artist - it’s infuriating!

I’ve tried searching the lyrics and singing it to friends but no one can remember it.

Do you remember this?

We were put upon this planet
to love and help each other
at least I think that’s the way god planned it
why then hurt your brother?

we come from earth
sister or brother
we come from earth
whatever colour

I haven’t RTFT to see if anyone else has relied - but lyrics are vaguely similar to You’re The Voice (someone mentioned above) or Patience (dream girls)

SuperLemonCrush · 02/11/2024 00:37

What about Sea of Love by the Adventures….and Waking Hours by Del Amitri? Still love these!

XChrome · 02/11/2024 00:43

Little Black Backpack by Stroke 9.
I like it for the same reason I love Santeria by Sublime. I love a catchy revenge song.

LongLongLiveLove · 02/11/2024 00:55

Around 1998 I think it was, I recall what must have been a cover of what I later discovered was a 70s or 80s song called Don't Stick Stickers On My Paper Knickers. The lyrics were barmy! No one else I have spoken to except two people actually recall it. I think it can't have been in the charts very long.

IKEAJesus · 02/11/2024 00:58

The one I haven’t heard played for years is Madonna - You’ll See.

Bbq1 · 02/11/2024 00:59

The Renyolds Girks - I'd Rather Jack
Tatu - All the things she said

HRTQueen · 02/11/2024 01:00
