I really don't want to.take the kids trick or treat . I don't feel up to it at all. But also we have not done anything at all this half term. So I feel like I should at least do trick or treat
But I really don' t want to.

Also just read about your teeth, I've had a lot of dental problems over the years. A major extraction takes it out of you, you have my every sympathy, it's rough. Ibuprofen is good for the pain/swelling. As is paracetamol, I was advised to alternate them every four hours.

Nchanged89 · 30/10/2024 15:26

Omg, all of your teeth?
Can I ask why?

My teeth were in really bad condition and looked awful. I have felt very ugly for years and had to get it sorted .

Must be really quite traumatic to have all your teeth removed.... although I'm sure it will be worth it once the work is completed. Just try and get through the week as best you can. Walk round a couple of streets with your kids...you don't have to participate, just supervise. I'm sure they'll appreciate and enjoy getting out. You never know you might actually feel better....sometimes getting a bit of fresh air makes all the difference.

Topsy44 · 30/10/2024 17:15

I feel your pain!! I am very glad that my DD was is now in secondary school and I don’t have to do it anymore.

I used to dread it!

Bigearringsbigsmile · 30/10/2024 17:16

You know it's not Halloween until tomorrow?
You might be feeling a bit better byvthen.

Frozensnow · 30/10/2024 17:21

It sounds horrific to have all your teeth removed- I’m not surprised you feel rubbish. I would do a half hour walk- just force yourself to do it and then come home and snuggle with them under a blanket and watch a spooky film while they eat the sweets

Yeah I will do. I do feel a little better compared to when I first posted this morning. So tomorrow I may feel a bit better
Than today . I will take them even if its for a short while .

Yikes, I completely understand why you wouldn't want your go out. It's a massive deal to have your teeth removed.

Can you stick a snood or baseball hat on with a scarf so you don't feel so vulnerable if you go out? Hang back at the gate etc and you don't have to talk to anyone, I stay in with my DC because they are too little to take out & hand out the treats, I just do a little wave to the parents waiting at the end of the drive (I'm pretty antisocial m so I don't want to make small talk to adult randoms) but I like seeing the kids in their costumes.

The 14 year old can assist corralling the younger kids, the weather is so lovely and mild at the moment it will be easier going trick or treating even for 15mins than trying to entertain them all evening.

If their costumes are trashed, don't worry it's Halloween, they are supposed to look trashed and it's dark anyway.

I won't take my kids. Don't believe in it. Think it's begging

What’s there to believe in? It’s either happening or it’s not 😂

Shithole101 · 31/10/2024 12:37

Think that’s the right choice. They’re only young once. Don’t have to stay out long

I had all my teeth removed and feel crap. Does that count ?

And yeah I get what your saying I just feel run down . Very drained and tired .

not surprised you don’t feel like walking the streets with the kids.
Can you do a treasure hunt at home? Just hide sweets around the house for them?
Organise a film and popcorn ( for them, I don’t think you’ll find popcorn great to eat just yet)
Anyone else who can take the kids out?

Sockmate123 · 31/10/2024 12:54

All of your teeth removed?? Omg that sounds awful and I'd imagine you don't feel your best. Can their Dad take them? Mine absolutely love trick or treating and even though we did pumpkin patch and monster ball disco etc they ate still excited about tonight. It's not the quantity of houses either, even if they knock on 10 doors, they just love the novelty of it I think. They don't seem to have done a lot so I would just suck it up as it's core memories for them tbh. I hate it myself but it's only one night for maximum an hour...

Begging?! Get over yourself!
Also this isn’t about you or even trick or treating. It’s about a woman who is feeling low and struggling so either give her some support or take your snooty judgements elsewhere

Yes, I’m dying to know more about the purse-lipped bosom-hoking ‘trick or treating is begging’ types.

OP, I hope your mouth isn’t too painful, and that an hour outside is bearable, and maybe even ok. A thought, if you’d like to keep your face covered against the air, I’ve sometimes worn a mask when going out with DS and his friends? Good luck, anyway.

LadyGabriella · 31/10/2024 13:58

Trick or treating is not begging. It’s just a bit of fun and a traditions for kids to eat loads of sweets. Those that think it’s begging take themselves far too seriously. Loosen up.

I'm not in any pain at all. My face just feels alien like it's not mine. I don't like things near my neck/face. I'm not in pain and it will be dark so no one will take notice.

Definitely not begging . Decorations etc = trick or treaters welcome. There's a couple of streets close by that are really big on it.

It’s a lovely community give and take all aimed at creating fun for kids so take no notice.
I hope you have a nice time with the kids tonight and feel better soon
