In my lifetime: a Queen of England (Queen in her own right, not as consort)

CatStoleMyChocolate · 21/10/2024 21:18

A white Christmas in SE England.

EveryOtherNameTaken · 21/10/2024 21:19

Being beaten and abused regularly by a 'partner'.

EveryOtherNameTaken · 21/10/2024 21:21

On a lighter note, a white Christmas as @CatStoleMyChocolate says.

People queuing through the night for books. I used to love seeing the queue for harry potter books when they were released, people were joining it as I was heading home nights out Grin

Pre-orders and audiobooks have rather squashed that I think

KatieL5 · 21/10/2024 21:22

Labour winning another general election.

SweetSakura · 21/10/2024 21:23

Boris Johnson as PM Grin

Pandemic where we go into a lock down.

Really busy high streets.

haveyouopenedyourbowelstoday · 21/10/2024 21:26

Young people being able to buy a house.

T4phage · 21/10/2024 21:26

A sensible, intelligent government.

LightSpeeds · 21/10/2024 21:27

The turn of a century (and a millennium) in my lifetime.

I think this, living standards will not recover for a long time and we'll be paying though the nose for the basics. That's how it used to be for average people throughout history the past 80 years or so were a blip. It's back to feudalism.

SpecduckularlyQuackers · 21/10/2024 21:32

A total solar eclipse visible in the UK was the first thing that came to mind.

There hasn’t been a ‘Queen of England’ since the 1700’s. Queen Elizabeth II was the Queen of the United Kingdom (and Commonwealth Realms).

Young people being able to buy a house.

Every one in my team is 25 and they all own a home. Depends where you live I guess.

This was my first thought.

I sadly can't agree with those who are saying there won't be another lockdown/pandemic.
Instead, I think that the eradication of diseases where things looked hopeful not too long ago (polio, measles) is very unlikely to happen in my lifetime Sad

More optimistically, I don't think AI will genuinely get cleverer than us/'take over'.

Why would no Queen on England bother you? The last one was in the 1700’s?

PauliesWalnuts · 21/10/2024 21:41

A UK Olympic Games.

I take your point. 'Queen of England' is not the correct wording here. However, I and (I reckon) all the other PPs knew what the PP meant. Your correction (in response to two posts now) does seem a bit pedantic, tbh, and it would be a shame if it derailed the thread.

As someone from Scotland it always rankles though and although it might seem ‘pedantic’ it’s quite important.
