Whats the oddest thing someone has stolen from you?

Reading this story about a door handle stolen from a cafe made me wonder what the oddest thing someone has stolen from you? I once had some of my homemade CDs stolen from me on a train. Why would you steal someone’s really obvious crappy homemade megamix with their felt-tip handwriting scrawl all over it? I hope it skipped for them on the good songs!

https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cdjekzxj4y4o I hope they get their handles back!

Men in CCTV sought after cafe door handle theft

The cafe in Redfield had its door handles stolen hours before opening for the first time.

Some of these are so unusual! People used to steal lunches from the staff fridge when I worked in a multilevel office building, including homemade items, I think that's odd!

We live in a fourth floor flat and have scaffolding up at the moment. We have had all sorts of trades going up and down the past couple of weeks. One day last week I left the kitchen window open when I went out (absent mindedly because we’re not used to having to think of this, being on 4th floor), and when I got back my prescription had disappeared from the kitchen table (which is next to the window). I am certain it was there when I left and gone when I got back, I think an opportunistic thief took it, thinking it might be something worth taking. Sadly they have taken my HRT patches!

A colleague at work had a bad fire next door and they had to move out due to extensive smoke and water damage. It was the first house she owned. She was single with 2 small kids and really struggling with getting everything sorted. Someone broke in and pulled the radiators off the walls. They were virtually worthless - someone was seen dragging them away on a trolley.. She was absolutely devastated and the damage was extensive.

Once left the pram frame for my huge double pram outside the back door. Some twat stole it. And I was in the house!

StMarieforme · 15/10/2024 19:43

At a festival this year, on the last night, when I settled in bed, I plugged my iPhone and (cheap and cheerful) smartwatch into my heavy duty power bank. When I woke up, the smart watch was gone. Nothing else. And I fasten the zips for safety too. I just don't get it. It never turned up. 😞😞

pumpkingate · 15/10/2024 19:44

A giant pumpkin I had grown from seed. It was so big I had to roll it to the end of the drive and carve it there. I heard a car stop outside the house with the engine running and I looked outside only to see two people get back in the car and then noticed the pumpkin had vanished!

I'm still angry about it to this day 😁

My sister had her steering wheel stolen. They smashed the car window, removed the steering wheel, and left the car on the driveway. Most bizarre.

Depends on the steering wheel. There’s a huge market for second hand BMW wheels for example, as they contain all the electrics and are seriously expensive to replace if the electrics go. There’s a huge problem where I live of BMWs getting broken into just for the steering wheels, which end up on eBay!

Probably 50 years ago my dad hitchhiked in America and got a lift for a couple of days with a guy who ended up holding my dad up at gunpoint to steal his bag of very dirty washing. It was a straight road so apparently the police picked him up easily and he was wearing one of my dad’s dirty shirts 🤪.

I had a 'friend' come and stay with me during my wedding so she didn't have to book a hotel. She left during the ceremony and went back to her own home (about 5 hours away) and messaged me to say as she'd never seen my house before and it was too big, I didn't deserve to have such a nice house so she'd stolen my hair dryer. Hmm
Sounds ridiculous but is 100% true.

I can’t believe this! What did you say to that??

Heatherjayne1972 · 15/10/2024 19:46

Working in a dental practice we often had our ( tatty and out of date) magazines pinched

The weirdest thing to be stolen was the soap and lotion holder from the bathroom. A patient must have come in thought ‘Oo that’s nice I’m having it ‘ had their appointment and took it home
it was a cheapo gift from somewhere - buy x amount of soap and get a free holder type thing
weird

My Guinea Pigs 😢. When I went to uni I took them with me and put the hutch in the Garden. Came back one day and they were gone.

That’s heartbreakingly sad 😢

ChallahPlaiter · 15/10/2024 19:47

My mum once left her car keys in the boot and someone took them. They took the car for a drive every night but always brought it back. It was parked in different places all the time so when we wanted to use it we had to look for it. Finally they snapped the key in the ignition so that was the end of our car sharing days.

PeggyMitchellsCameo · 15/10/2024 19:48

When I was a kid we had a spate of burglaries at Christmas. The robber in question was eating the treats, leaving alcohol, valuables and money behind.
Unless Santa was doing some early shifts, he was never caught.
He did our mince pies in and some ‘ham on the bone’ as my mother called it. Luckily he didn’t get into the Quality Street.
By the way this was the 70’s no alarms, cameras or security.

It's an only fools and horses reference...

Fans of ‘Only Fools and Horses’ might remember the sketch when Trigger, the road sweeper, claims to have used the same broom for 20 years….even though it has had 17 new heads and 14 new handles.

Kilofoxtrot99 · 15/10/2024 19:49

Had a plumber round and he put the hallway radiator against the wide open front door, half in and half out, and someone nicked it- while he was working on replacing the brackets! He didn’t notice whoever it was even walking off with it, he was there the whole time, the bellend…ffs…

EveryOtherNameTaken · 15/10/2024 19:49

Somebody managed to open my exbf car. They stole the Extra Strong mints from the dashboard and left the coins that were next to them 🤷🏼‍♀️

We had been gone 5 minutes and could still taste the mints we ate from the packet before we left the car when we got back.

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 15/10/2024 19:49

Not actually stolen but attempted. My mum had a large fake bay tree in a pot outside her front door, it was a heavy pot weighted with big stones and concrete. One morning we woke to find the “ tree” in the middle of the drive. Clearly someone had taken it out of the pot, probably broken their back 😂🤣😂and then realised it was plastic, so abandoned it. It really amused us that we mist of pissed off and hopefully hurt the assailant with the realistic tree.

Tigger? The bouncy tiger from Winnie the Pooh. I think he bounced about on a stick.

A snowman!

When dd was only about 2yo we'd made a small snowman in the front garden, about 2' high, put a cloth round its neck as a scarf and an empty tin as a hat. It looked like a 2yo had helped as well.

Someone pinched it, as it put a spade underneath to remove it in one go and left a blank square of garden path underneath.

Was it Christmas eve? Maybe it flew away...??

Entire cake , I left it out to cool, someone nicked it .

I'm sure there's a ladybird book about that.

OhMaria2 · 15/10/2024 19:50

My battered old doormat when I was a student.
A terrible paper mache sculpture of a fly when I was at secondary school
The wing mirror glass out of my car last month

And last but not least, a partially rotten jack o lantern from my doorstop several weeks after Halloween.

I used to work with someone who had a Thing about food. She wasn’t constantly eating or anything, but she could not seem to bear the idea that there was food in the building and she wasn’t having any. E.g. she once came into a meeting room where lunch was taking place and took a plate of sandwiches (my colleague followed her out and took them back!) And she would walk into our office (she wasn’t on the same team) to get anything such as fruit that we had brought to share. Yep, had to stop leaving my lunch in the fridge.

MsDastardley · 15/10/2024 19:51

Many years ago, a bike, tv, video etc, and the cheese and piccalilli sandwiches I’d made for DH to take to work!
