Whats the oddest thing someone has stolen from you?

Reading this story about a door handle stolen from a cafe made me wonder what the oddest thing someone has stolen from you? I once had some of my homemade CDs stolen from me on a train. Why would you steal someone’s really obvious crappy homemade megamix with their felt-tip handwriting scrawl all over it? I hope it skipped for them on the good songs!

https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cdjekzxj4y4o I hope they get their handles back!

Men in CCTV sought after cafe door handle theft

The cafe in Redfield had its door handles stolen hours before opening for the first time.

Was out with another couple once and when we got back to their car someone had broken in and stolen the drivers old ' donkey jacket '! Nothing else though
Had my hub caps stolen from my fiesta once in broad daylight. People are just brazen :(

Rotary clothes line without the base.

I had the opposite of this. A couple of days after moving into a new house, someone came round and put up a washing line while I was out! I never did find out who it was.

Wooden clothes pegs. One day last summer I hung a load of laundry out to dry one morning. When I came to bring it inside all my lovely old wooden pegs (which were with the flat when I bought it more than twenty years before) had gone and been replaced by ugly blue plastic things. I was more puzzled than cross, after all, who the hell steals clothes pegs. Thankfully, I got them all back the next day after placing a stern request on the community Facebook page. I never did get to the bottom of the mystery.

The air filter and several parts from my car which was left in a French garage while it was waiting to be towed home. The missing parts were not related to why it had broken down. By the time the car arrived back home the repair bill had doubled due to missing parts.

Dymaxion · 15/10/2024 20:07

A pushchair I used to use up at the stables, I know who stole it, but they used it to collect firewood and were quite elderly so I didn't make a fuss.

T4phage · 15/10/2024 20:09

Some of ds1's 6th form friends visited once and one of them stole a tiny crocheted leek that I had hung from the fridge 🙈 it had a smiley face and he obviously took a fancy to it.

Corduroy trousers belonging to DS. The police took me in car and we saw a guy wearing them. This was some years ago [50?] - they took the trousers off him and made him walk in the streets of Earls Court without them! What a wonderful ID for this outcome @comedycentral

Justice! But it would not happen these days I fear!

We sold a playhouse we had in our garden when we were moving house. A couple paid us like £100 for it, but it had to be dismantled to fit in their van. We left them there while we drove over to drop things off at the new house as they were just in the garden. Came back and they had taken the playhouse away, but they also removed the hosepipe holder from the side of the house (like literally unbolted it from the house) and stolen that along with the hosepipe. 🤷🏻‍♀️

An ex gave me a gold coloured watch, not valuable, which must have been taken through the window when I was doing care work in someone's home. That was gutting. Then bizarrely my toiletry bag was stolen from a hostel, cheap old bag full of cheap products.

RatMouseVole · 15/10/2024 20:10

Someone stole the (well used) yellow air freshener block things from the urinals in my cousin's bar.

Snowdrop80 · 15/10/2024 20:11

One mud flap off my old car.

Yougetmoreofwhatyoufocuson · 15/10/2024 20:11

Left my van in a NT car park and both parts of my blue badge were stolen. The clock part was under a cushion so they must have had a good old rummage to find it. Standards are falling even in the Shires.

the80sweregreat · 15/10/2024 20:12

Dh was in the army reserves many years ago and during operations someone stole some of their equipment late at night. They all got into a lot of trouble over that one and they never did get to the bottom of it all.

I love the swift justice! What a great story, I'm glad you got them back.

There was a spate of peoples cars being broke into for the parking permits for DHs work... (not at his workplace, outside peoples homes)

They were bits of laminated card that you could easily print at home. They were of no use to get through the security gates! You had to remove them from the car because of it.

Madrid21 · 15/10/2024 20:12

When I was still living at my parents someone stole our house number! it had snowed that night and we could see an indentation next to our front gate where it must've fallen off in the night but by the morning it was gone, maybe someone else who lived at a number 263, very bizarre!

My late father in law had to bolt his blue badge down as people kept trying to break into his car and steal the badges.
Someone I knew had some power tools stolen out their garage but not the leads you need to charge them up with !
We had a push bike stolen once , it was old with a broken chain , but still annoying
They put the garage door back down after them

Someone broke the rear window of my ford fiesta and stole the parcel shelf.

I can't stop laughing, sorry for your loss obviously.

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 15/10/2024 20:18

Some people we knew owned a nice restaurant and they had to buy a screw down soap dispenser because people just took the bottles of hand wash they provided. A hotel we go to has taken all of the knick knacks that used to be on display away because of people nicking them.

TheTecknician · 15/10/2024 20:18

At my old workplace it was cutlery, but mainly teaspoons. I spent nearly three decades in the company od kleptomaniacs.

Stickthatupyourdojo · 15/10/2024 20:19

A pair of shoes. I'm a size 3 and the person who pinched them a size 6. They weren't expensive so doubt she'd have sold them on for much if that was the plan.

@BebbanburgIsMine

It's an only fools and horses reference...

Fans of ‘Only Fools and Horses’ might remember the sketch when Trigger, the road sweeper, claims to have used the same broom for 20 years….even though it has had 17 new heads and 14 new handles.

My grandfather’s axe…

Exactly the same here, and with a Fiesta! This was about 30 years ago. Actually, not quite the same as they didn't break the window, they somehow got in without leaving a trace, and shut the boot afterwards, which made it even more puzzling.

I also had a bulb stolen from a bike light. Again, they opened the light, removed the bulb and put the light back together, so I didn't notice it was gone till I tried to switch the light on.

DuesToTheDirt · 15/10/2024 20:22

Oh, and another time the seat was taken from my bike. Very annoying. At least I wasn't out and about and hoping to cycle home.
