Do children still go trickle treating?

Moved house since last Halloween and now living on an estate. No kids myself but don't know if kids still go trickle treating at strangers houses? Happy to decorate and get sweets in

When the exact same error is made in both the subject line, and her body of the post, it’s obviously not a typo,

Have you never heard of an eggcorn? Pobody’s nerfect you know!

Surely that's a Spoonerism, not an eggcorn. 😀

MrsSunshine2b · 14/10/2024 22:02

Yes, it's a big deal round here and kids travel in huge packs of 10-12. If you want to participate, you put a pumpkin or other decorations outside your house.

Tisfortired · 14/10/2024 22:08

We do in our community, but only to houses that are decorated. My DC know we are strictly not to knock on any houses that aren’t decorated.

God people can be mean. It's obviously a typo. Where I live trick or treating goes on. If you would like kids to knock then decorate, if not, they will most likely leave you alone.

Edited

I used to think it was trickle treating when young, so not sure about a typo! I thought it was ‘trickle’ for absolutely years, which makes me wonder whether it was, at a certain time, a widespread misunderstanding!

DiscoinFrisco · 14/10/2024 22:12

Id rather make a mistake than be the type of person who is rude enough to point one out.

People here say trickle!

So they're wrong. No-one is trickling.

alwaysmovingforwards · 14/10/2024 22:13

We were going to go trickle treating but I couldn’t find the outfits, buried deep in the chester draws I guess.

Don't be a dick. You know what they mean.

It’s called ‘humour’

This is the understood etiquette here too. Pretty well respected. Luckily lots of houses do join in so no need to know on un-decorated houses.

Now here's a question - does anyone 'trick' anymore? I remember going round with silly string for people who wouldn't for out sweets, but I don't remember ever having the guts to use it on the houses, we just used to spray it at each other / rival trick-or-treaters!

I used to take out a party blower. My then 2.5 year old took one out last year too, but no-one wanted a "trick", which was a shame as he'd been practicing using one!

Imfreetofeelgood · 14/10/2024 22:21

They get dropped off, in car loads, on our estate. One year there was a minibus rolled up. The kids went round the doors and the adults stayed drinking at the bus! I close the blinds at 7pm.That's my limit. I live on a lovely estate, people make an effort, but sadly it's become a 'destination'.

I am seriously considering a lifesize talking skeleton thanks to another thread and trickle or trick or treaters will all be welcome.

I love Halloween. Midlander so we always had some kind of celebration even in the 60s and my poor Dad would have loved pumpkins, after having to carve out a swede for the lantern.

Ok so I called it trickle treating to see what the responses would be. Obviously I know its trick or treating. Although somebody on etsy is selling trickle treating tumblers.

The real trick seems to be they aren’t even selling the tumblers, they are selling wraps to wrap around your own tumblers at home! Cheeky.
