Moved house since last Halloween and now living on an estate. No kids myself but don't know if kids still go trickle treating at strangers houses? Happy to decorate and get sweets in

Is this an in joke thread, no one really thinks it's trickle surely, how would that make any sense?

Trickle treating, as in a steady stream of kids expecting a few sweets, actually makes more sense nowadays - I've haven't heard of children actually tricking houses that don't provide treats in recent years.
In the olden days your house would be pelted with eggs. But no more.
Ah the good old days.

In my area we get eggs thrown at houses, toilet paper, graffiti the whole fucking lot
One of my neighbours had fireworks put through the letterbox last year Sad

Yeah, but mine are too tall to do it now. My son and his friend went out at 12 year old and some woman told them to go away, as they weren't kids anymore 😕 If a 6ft, 16 year old came knocking and had put effort in to dressing up, I wouldn't think twice about treating them as any other trick or treater.

Aw no! That's mean, they're only 12 - still children!

That's one thing about my 13 year old, she's short so only looks about 10! No one questions! 😂

When my DD was young she couldn't properly pronounce Mitsubishi (the car brand). She called it Mr. Bishi, it was hilarious

Trickle treating? I take it you mean trick or treating?

BigBoysDontCry · 14/10/2024 19:56

Guising in Scotland and it's wild on my estate but kids do stick to only hoses that are decorated or have pumpkins out.

I think it really depends where you live.

Trickle treating. Grin

Sounds so cute!

And yeah they do in my village. Lovely kids here too. Smile

Ok so I called it trickle treating to see what the responses would be. Obviously I know its trick or treating. Although somebody on etsy is selling trickle treating tumblers.

Trickle treating 🤣🤣🤣 that's what I used to call it when I was younger.

Last year we had maybe one knock on the door.

It's also what I used to call it when I was little, wasn't ever allowed to go though! So glad I have a dd now so I finally get to go!

Growlybear83 · 14/10/2024 19:33

We don't get very many round here, but they don't tend to keep to houses that have decorations outside.

I was a child in the 1960s and I had never heard of trick or treating in England until I was in my very late teens, and didnt really understand the concept. The first year we saw trick or treaters heading down the road, I got ready for them. A couple of very large boys knocked on the door a few minutes later, and said 'trick or treat'. I replied 'trick', squirted them with a big water pistol I had filled up, and shit the door 😆😆😆. I really thought the householder either gave them a treat or played a trick and had no idea that the tricks came from the callers. 😆😆

You shit on the door too?! Really, @Growlybear83, you went to far... 😂😂

RareMaker · 14/10/2024 20:03

No need

SwordToFlamethrower · 14/10/2024 20:04

We get 100 kids to our door on average and we can't wait! Got all the decorations up already and loads of treats

Oh you're just so smart. Yes you are, yes you are. Who's such a smart girl.

Plainer · 14/10/2024 20:07

My kids said Trickle Treating when they were tiny, so we still say it. And yes, they do, OP!

We observe the rules of our area, which are basically, only approach decorated houses and it's all over by 7.30 p.m.

It's a big deal where we live, dozens of little groups out and about, and several houses construct all kinds of Halloween entertainment for the kids. Last year, one house created an entire Ghost Train ride in their garden.

I am seeing more and more though, that many regualr houses put out a bowl of treats, to discourage the knocking.

ItsLovelyWeatherForDucks · 14/10/2024 20:07

Trickle Treating is up there with Chester Draws. Love it @reallifeboogie 😆

LuluBlakey1 · 14/10/2024 20:10

Our 3 go to our Two NDNs and then to MIL and her NDNs- by request 😁
Last year they took little iced spiced pumpkin fairy cakes and offered them to the residents.

Cas112 · 14/10/2024 20:11
