Do children still go trickle treating?

Moved house since last Halloween and now living on an estate. No kids myself but don't know if kids still go trickle treating at strangers houses? Happy to decorate and get sweets in

In answer to your question yes, we had loads. All ages up to teenagers (delightfully polite with great costumes and face paint), also a couple of young adults with their parents whom I think had learning disabilities. I was new to the area and it was really nice.

God people can be mean. It's obviously a typo. Where I live trick or treating goes on. If you would like kids to knock then decorate, if not, they will most likely leave you alone.

Edited

Jesus Christ, are people being mean? Are you completely po faced and earnest in RL?

Its some fabulous light hearted jokes about an eggcorn

(look it up)

That's what I thought but it's in the title and the post.

Yes, around here children go to decorated houses. No pumpkins, no visitors is the aim.

This is the understood etiquette here too. Pretty well respected. Luckily lots of houses do join in so no need to know on un-decorated houses.

Now here's a question - does anyone 'trick' anymore? I remember going round with silly string for people who wouldn't for out sweets, but I don't remember ever having the guts to use it on the houses, we just used to spray it at each other / rival trick-or-treaters!

TeenToTwenties · 14/10/2024 19:14

Yes they do.

if you want callers then have a visible sign you are participating such as a lit pumpkin in the window, or lights or decorations outside.

It is considered 'bad form' these days for children to call at unlit/decorated houses.

Don’t forget the skellington.

caringcarer · 14/10/2024 19:15

My kids are grown up but I do put a pumpkin out with a candle on my front step and give kids a fun size choc bar.

Oh dont, I was binge watching Jamie Oliver the other day and forgot that he makes my eye twitch every time he says ungyun.

Arrggghhhh.

itispersonal · 14/10/2024 19:16

When I've taken my daughter - if a house is decorated you knock on it on Halloween for trick or treat. If it's not decorated you don't go!

They do here - we usually get about 60/70 kids. My kids are teens now but the youngest loves dressing up and answering the door. We call it guising though.

Only go to decorated houses though.

teatoast8 · 14/10/2024 19:17

I won't be letting my kids do when they are older. Don't agree with it

JC03745 · 14/10/2024 19:18

I don't have kids either. About 20 houses on our lane and not one has a pumpkin or decorations. I walk the dog and in local streets, I only see 2-3 houses with decoration each year. Clearly, Halloween is not popular here 😆

coxesorangepippin · 14/10/2024 19:18

😀 😀 😀

Indeed they do

They trickle in

lololulu · 14/10/2024 19:18

First year my 12 year old isn't doing it. Thank god!!!

mrsbitaly · 14/10/2024 19:18

In our area they do but the rule of thumb is to only knock on the homes that are decorated or have a pumpkin outside

Sillysausage76 · 14/10/2024 19:19

My kids older but a few years ago the different colour bags the kids collect the goodie in mean different things.think purple might of meant child has autism and green a allergy but not sure, and I give sweets from a big pot .

sadeightiesthrowback · 14/10/2024 19:19

@reallifeboogie kids still do go trick or treating, although not so much as they used to do.

For years many years, we've noticed a decline in the number of kids to the door, last year there were only three.

But it would be a good idea if you got candy in because there are always some kids that like the fun of going out in the dark and getting free candy.

Just a hint here, make sure you get something that you like in case you do get stuck with it, like we have over the years.

If you don't want anybody to your door because you ran out of candy, close the curtains and shut off the lights LOL

ThianWinter · 14/10/2024 19:19

Round here, there's a community map and you mark your house as either welcoming trick or treaters or not. It works fine. We welcome them, I love seeing the different outfits, some of them are very inventive. I've already got the Haribo ready.

People are such dicks to posters who use the wrong terms on here.

Yes, kids still trick or treat here. Some areas are better than others, ours is crap unfortunately.

Differentstarts · 14/10/2024 19:23

Yes they do

Sounds like they'll have super fun life.

MassiveSalad22 · 14/10/2024 19:25

Aw, poor OP just wanted to make sure she had some sweets in if people were likely to come knocking!

Waterboatlass · 14/10/2024 19:26

I'm all for penny for the guy! Would love it if we still had both.
